Early thread is way early.

We won't know where the WPG pick will be until the second round is over.

I'm not sure if you missed this, but @Edge told the board a couple of days ago, his sources are telling him that is the exact plan.

I must have missed that. So we’re targeting one of the centers we probably would have been targeting in the 6th spot?

Bundle picks and maybe a more experienced player to get another top-10 pick. Maybe throw in another pick or roster player and Andersson to get top-6.

If we go with a forward, Nils Hoglander because he has the highest ceiling. The kid has first line potential. He's punished in the rankings for being short, but he's very strong and plays against adults in a league comparable to the AHL a full 3 years before most North American kids go to the AHL. Led a U20 team in scoring by far as a 16 year old. Really good puckhandling skill and shot. Good away from the puck. If he played against kids in Canadian Juniors and was a couple inches taller, we'd be talking about him as one of the top prospects in this draft.

By the time you get to the 20-22 range, a prospect will have flaws (or why would he fall so far down). I'd rather get someone short with skill than a big guy with less talent (you can't have both at #22 - a big guy with skill will be going 2OA, not 22OA).

It wouldn't surprised me if they tried.....and if it happens it might not happen until the draft's already started. Colorado could be a team or Edmonton. I know a lot of people think Kreider + (Winnipeg's 1st? or our 2nd?) but a team trading for him might want some guarantee he's not just going to play that season and leave at the end as a UFA. And if I trade Kreider I'd be after Panarin though I'd probably be after Panarin anyway--unpopular as that may be. That guy is a good player and I don't see him fading anytime soon. He and Kakko could be roommates whenever we're on the road.

I'm pretty sure the Rangers European scouts have a pretty good handle on him. We have very strong ties to Sweden and Russia. If we're in the 20's there's a chance he'll already be gone. He's worthy of consideration if he's there though.

If we're taking an undersized winger in the first, I'd go with Caufield over Hoglander.

I REALLLLYY wanna walk out of this draft with Kakko and Dach. I think they would be monsters together.

As counterintuitive as it sounds, when picking in the 20s, if you want a high ceiling guy, look for someone with obvious flaws.

Think about it: 1 guy is good at everything, has great size and no injuries... then why is he ranked the same as a guy who is 5'9 or coming off an injury? Only way it happens is if the second guy has so much more potential. All-around good players with high ceilings dont fall to #20. Theres a reason a kid isnt ranked on par with Hughes/Kakko or Podkolzin/Dach/Byram or even Newhook/Suzuki.

If you read a report and everything sounds good to great, the very likely reason he's still falling into the 20s is lack of high end potential. Meanwhile someone with an obvious flaw who's ranked in the same range may have top-5 talent. High risk, high reward.

Sounds like that Kaliyev kid. I Could live with them taking a swing at a pitch that isn't right down the middle with the WPG pick. I have been hearing real good stuff about Poulin as well.

Its also time. Some players have the skill set but will take longer to develop. Russian contracts and NCAA commitments have always caused players to slide.

Could be some nice players there. We need winnipeg to lose and a little more help to make that pick 19/20 and maybe we can grab a Seider/Harley or another exciting prospect like that. What do you guys think of Brink?
