Speculation: The 2026-27 Roster Speculation Thread: Summer Edition - Throw in All The Oars, We're Trading for Battleships

Trading for Trocheck as a stopgap better be attached to bringing one of Malhotra or Bjorck in with pick 4. Because that’s a plan. And I don’t have to agree with plans to respect them. And we need Cs. You want to compete now…fill in some of what Tuch did for you…and draft and develop a high end C prospect while he’s doing it. Fine. I’m in.

If we trade for Trocheck and draft a D…I’m far less enthusiastic about our future at the position.
That's the hope. Get two good years out of Trocheck, then Helenius, Ostlund, and 4OA are starting to take over. The question is, what do they do with Norris. Keep the depth but pay for a player that is injured a lot or replace him and hope one of the youngsters can play top-6 minutes or else youre giving Tage or McLeod those minutes.

Some of his defensive stats kind of tanked this past year. He's scrappy though - wish Krebs had turned out more like him than what Krebs has become.

Would you sign up for a Trocheck trade if it was paired with drafting Bjorck? That’s about the only way I’m on board. If they come out with an organizational plan that says…we’ve invested in this high end prospect (or Malholtra too for this) but we are letting them cook and this is how we plan to add veteran stuff we’re losing with Tuch to our top six while we do it….while also addressing a need down the middle until our ultimate plan is ready in a couple years.

There is one bright spot that keeps me from worrying that both Ostlund and Helenius are ready to step in and play bigger roles.

I am cautiously optimistic.

And Benson. Let’s not forget he was buried on the 4th line for a significant part of last season. Plus Quinn could have another gear, and Kulich should be back. We’ve got lots of young forwards ready to give more, I think.

My hope is he is a Zucker like addition down the middle. My fear is the cost for doing business right now is high, and the rumors of 1st + Quinn to get center help AND Drury playing hard ball at the TDL means we may budge on giving up a value of 2 1st round picks.

I made the mistake of thinking he'd be worth it w/my McLeod proposal earlier in the month, but I think I'm valuing his game in his prime rather than what it is today.

I know in the TDL embedded video Jarmo mentioned about circling back on something in the off season with another GM on the horn. Just something to ponder
Problem with Blues is it's a new GM now (Steen)

They have 4 1sts so there might be something there, we will see

The 4OA might make Thomas available.

I also think Jarmo has to be offering up the 20OA+ for a defenseman. Need a top 4D to fill Byram's spot.
Adding the 4th could entice the Blues but I am not sure if we can meet back up to the table without Byram.

I wonder how high they are on Crevier? I'm curious to know where they slide him into the lineup.

Jarmo having a lights out start to a draft week

Byram trade is A++ and getting more for Tuch’s rights than Tampa got Raddysh’s

Now though the real work start and let’s see how he fills up the roster

I’ll still say Bjorck+ top6 winger would be A+

Edit, 20th, every pick after that, every non Doan/Helenius/Ostlund young player should be available

Helenius and Ostlund already are starting to take over.
If they left it at that, used the picks, resigned Malenstyn, ... etc. I wouldn't be too mad.

I think there's enough potential for internal growth to replace the two players we just lost, both on forward and defense.

That’s the kind of Kevyn Adams thinking that extended the drought another five years.

Another one of your hot takes and given that you're usually wrong, I feel supported in my assessment.

Not to defend Kevün, but the team that won the division this season was almost entirely his.

That being said, I'm not advocating against improving the roster. Just saying it wouldn't be the end of the world if they didn't make any big moves right now.

Torn on him for sure. Cost to acquire is the biggest thing. Keeping 4OA and getting another forward in the top 9 would be interesting for sure. I am leaning toward 4OA being used in trade based on Jarmo's presser where he went into more detail about moving up to 20 from 27 than about 4OA at all.

Updated puckpedia:

If Buffalo signs Benson, Malenstyn, and Krebs to their AFP projections, and start Danforth in Rochester, they're at 15-6-3 and $9.36M in cap space available. Using these lines for accounting purposes only, based off last season:

Krebs - Norris - Thompson
Benson - Ostlund - Doan
Zucker - Helenius - Quinn
Malenstyn - McLeod - Carrick
x Kulich, Kozak

Samuelsson - Dahlin
Power - Timmins
Metsa - Crevier

UPL, Lyon, Ellis

A forward-for-defense swap fixes it (Quinn for Spence+?). Loads of room to add free agents as well.
