Speculation: The 2026-27 Roster Speculation Thread: Summer Edition - Throw in All The Oars, We're Trading for Battleships

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
So..what if Vancouver takes a D (Reid) ..

Wonder if we could leverage 4 with NYR to get something

4 for 5 + ?

Cuylle possible?

But I really want Cuylle 😩
I think the Rangers are prime trading partners with Buffalo as they need to retool and we could use players they have.

4th Overall
Ostlund
20th Overall
Krebs
Levi

for
Trochek
Cuylle
5th Overall

Krebs is going to get $4-5M a year, so this moves him to NYR to develop while we add a top 6 center and 2nd line power forward. Upgrade center and wing while we drop and take BPA (this is contingent on Reid going 3rd which I dont think happens, but alas)

Sabres have $13.8M remaining

Notable RFA(s):
Krebs

Notable UFA(s):
Stanley
Beck

Krebs likely gets $4M a year on a 2-3 year deal. Beneficial for both sides
Beck gets $3M on a 4-5 year deal

That leaves $6.8M for a defeseman or potential forward upgrade.

You could move out Zucker, not sure they do that. You could also move out Quinn for an upgrade, gives you $3M to work out in addition to the $6.8

Trochek is $5.6. Thomas is $8.5. Robertson likely gets $13-14M to sign max term.

Lots of interesting moves here

Jarmo’s press conference made me feel like his preference might lean toward trading the #4 pick and that has me on pins & needles waiting to see what happens. I am ok with the idea of trading the pick if a true difference making top line type of player is coming back in return.

I don’t really know much about any of the top prospects this year but I definitely like the idea of drafting a center that has a legit chance of becoming a true #1C. I’d love to add that type of prospect to our pool. It’s a chance that doesn’t come often. But the strength at the top of this draft seems to be more in wingers and defenseman. Malholtra and Bjorck are intriguing but I don’t know if they are more 1C or 2C types. Seems to be lots of mixed opinions among scouts and analysts.

I’m not as big on the idea of drafting a defenseman just because of who we already have on the team and in the system. But I don’t know enough about any of the D prospects to have an opinion on any of them.

I’d love to see them trade the pick for Robert Thomas. If STL wants to reset I doubt they will ever get offered a higher pick than #4 for Thomas.

I don’t know how I’d feel about trading #4 for Knies.

No chance I’d trade #4 for Hellebuyck unless

I think it was lip service to other GMs. He was almost casual about the idea of trading the pick “we will be listening for now” “we want to see how you value the pick, we value it highly” “we will make a decision later on” “if we need to select someone, we will get a great player at 4”

That to me screams GM talk for “spare me your shit offers, go straight for the big value”
