Speculation: The 2026-27 Roster Speculation Thread: Summer Edition - Throw in All The Oars, We're Trading for Battleships

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Now that the 4OA euphoria is starting to wear off.....

Damn Washington is going to be better, Toronto and Florida.

We better get going.

Would there be any appetite for movig back a couple from 20 to get Rakell? Was thinking 20 for Rakel+39+70 (Raks+2nd+3rd)? Rakell and Tuch's production is similar - roughly 30-30 guys. Roughly similar playoff productions. Signed this year and next to a modest $5mil. Leaves room for Benson and a couple depth players.

I know everyone is praising Jarmo right now but this team has just lost two core pieces of a team that won the division. We are significantly worse today than we were yesterday.

What does either of them have to do with Jarmo?

Adams gave Byram a deal that walked him to UFA. Adams lowballed Tuch last offseason.

Jarmo inherited two guys that weren’t staying. One…that wouldn’t even negotiate. The other who wanted 8 figures until he’s 70 years old.

Jarmo’s part in it was managing to get 4th overall, a second, a third, a player and unloading a cap dump.

Jarmo did a great job. Adams didn’t.

I understand the decisions from a holistic, long-term team management position. Time and the moves that come next will tell if they were the right decisions. But I liked this team with Tuch and Byram on them and liked them as players.

Hope things go well and more importantly for the Sabres, hope the locker room stands losing them. Got the sense that they were emotional leaders for the team.

No appetite at all.

There is one bright spot that keeps me from worrying that both Ostlund and Helenius are ready to step in and play bigger roles.

I am cautiously optimistic.

Right. He can sell. But can he build? Remains to be seen.

The easiest thing in the world to do is sell when its a sellers market.

It even made Adams look like a competent GM for a while.

The real challenge is finding the right pieces.

While we do have depth to absorb these losses, we need to both utilize the cap space AND draft capital we have to improve the team now.

Not sure about Trochek. He seems like a guy who the aging curve has hit the last 18 months and I don't know about paying market price for a fish that's started to turn.
I don’t know. Still hits and wins face offs and handles himself in his own zone while scoring at a 2-3 C rate at 5v5. He’s got a ways to go before he’s full Laughton. It depends on price. If the cost is a protected 2027 1st, I’m game.

I know in the TDL embedded video Jarmo mentioned about circling back on something in the off season with another GM on the horn. Just something to ponder
Weren’t they rumored to be talking to the Rangers in March?

Not sure if or why either player would be available but if Jarmo can somehow land Robert Thomas or Matthew Knies I would be elated.
The 4OA might make Thomas available.

I also think Jarmo has to be offering up the 20OA+ for a defenseman. Need a top 4D to fill Byram's spot.

Some of his defensive stats kind of tanked this past year. He's scrappy though - wish Krebs had turned out more like him than what Krebs has become.
