Speculation: The 2026-27 Roster Speculation Thread: Summer Edition - Throw in All The Oars, We're Trading for Battleships

Greenway is a buyout candidate IMO. Saves 2.66M or so in cap. Danforth as well (though, he'll likely just get sent to Rochester as that saves around the same amount of cap space)

Zucker if you really needed to save some space, though his deal is much closer to his actual market value than Greenway, whose is severely inflated.

It depends on what the team plans on doing this summer.
Both are tradable so why would you buy them out?

Sounds like MPettersson's agent has debunked his client being interested in moving on in Vancouver. If they are looking to move Byram due to circumstances, he would be a guy I would like to see them pursue. He does a bunch of things like Sammy does - strong zone coverage, excellent first pass to safety, very good on the PK. I know he's a LD, but he's also signed for a while at a reasonable number ($5.5M AAV for the next five years).

Anyway, disappointed to hear he doesn't want out. Had a Krebs-and-pick for MP type idea in mind.
i like MPettersson AND EPettersson (the defenseman) alot. wouldnt mind taking a flyer on EPettersson too

No it isn't. Kulich hasnt played hockey in close to a year. Helenius, I dunno maybe, he looked awful good in a short stint last year but he's 20 years old. He'll play most of the season with the big club even if he starts the season in Rochester.
Suzuki, Thomas, Aho, Point all played their first full seasons when they were 19 or 20. Expecting Helenius to start in the AHL when he has done more to prove himself already than any of those did prior to their rookie seasons is loser talk.

Good teams play their best players. This shouldn't be a debate.

If you want to ice the best possible team, Helenius is playing. Kulich depending on camp, probably could use some time go get back into the game and shake off rust. Doubt preseason will be enough for him.

almost like the player made a trade request, and it just didnt leak yet. although something like that NOT leaking from Toronto is shocking

His agent (Matt Federico) only has 3 NHL clients per Puckpedia and the agency only has 31 clients total which by their totals would be 11th overall in terms of number of clients.

I heavily disagree

After this season, we have a very strong cap situation, we dont need to move salary out that is locked in past this year for future season's sake.

Regarding the play themselves, Zucker is a sheltered vet at this point - a guy who doesn't PK and is primarily a PP producer. McLeod handles much harder assignments and PKs as well.

From a value standpoint, McLeod will have significantly more value on the market,so if you want to move him over Zucker for the value in, I can understand it, but not on play on ice + contract/cap implications.
From an I want the cup perspective, I’m finding a way to upgrade McLeod

Greenway is positive value now, worth more if you retain the buy out amount.

Oh because jarmo wants to sign a guy that’s decided then? Byram just agrees to it no problem after purposely taking a two year deal last time so he could get to UFA? Knowing that he wants to be in a bigger role somewhere? Something we’ve known the whole time?

Or that Kesselring wanting to even try to re-sign is probably a pipe dream. He has zero reason to believe Ruff will use him after the year he had here. And it’s costing him a fortune on his next deal. Which…btw…he’ll get somewhere else in one year when he signs his QO and walks for nothing because believing anything else might happen without moving him out is ridiculous.

You are talking about two players who have given zero indication they’re interested in signing long term deals here. One who hasn’t earned it and can walk after this year. One who already signed a short term deal with this team and can also walk after this year.

They’re closer to gone than on this roster.

Why the f*** do you think Jarmo was trying to trade for Parayko in the first place? To pay him a ton on the bottom pair? They know where they are with Byram and Kesselring. And he was big game hunting for a long term replacement.

One of them didn’t even last the afternoon

Moves don’t happen in a vacuum. They knew what value Kesselring had after his disastrous season and they have done all their amateur scouting. Clearly valued their board’s top 20 over what they could bring back for Kesselring in a player for player deal. Or the value difference of the pick when they try to replace him in trade.

Either way…at least now we can stop seeing people try to excuse how awful he was here and trying to write him down in pen for next season.

Adios

I'm curious if that means positive momentum towards a Byram extension. Moving Kesselring only. makes sense if you are keeping Byram.
Kess wouldn't sniff the vacant 2nd pairing spot beside Power we envisioned for him before last season.

That said, I hope you're right about extending Bo. He's up-and-down too much, but it's the best young top-4 in the league and well worth keeping together.
