Speculation: The 2026-27 Roster Speculation Thread: Summer Edition - Throw in All The Oars, We're Trading for Battleships

People think of that OT goal and come to the conclusion they have a goalie issue.
When they could just as well blame Tage for not taking the shot earlier or Dahlin for the turnover that lead to the goal against.

Overtime is designed to cause costly individual mistakes to be decisive.

The truth is this team including the goalies overperformed throughout the season.
And UPL may just as well be the better goalie than Hellbuick as soon as next season.

Nobody is talking about the OT goal. They're talking about the playoffs as a whole.

i think it is most likely that we move Levi and Ellis out and get a goalie that is ready for NHL minutes to replace Ellis in the 3 goalie rotation. And we hope that he is an upgrade over Ellis and maybe one of the 3 turns into a 1g like Dobes did for Montreal. Niklas Kokko from Seattle would probably be my pick.

I agree. I would like to see UPL another year, he got the experience he needs, now let's see him build onto it.

With Nemec likely playing right side on Calgary's top pair, I wonder if Whitecloud might be available. If Byram is traded to strengthen C or G, rolling with Power - Whitecloud might actually be an upgrade in xGA.

I'm not sure he's slated for their top pair. Parekh is already their at RD and they don't have a lot on their blueline overall.

Get that 5th

I mean why wouldn't he, he wants to get paid. If I was in his position, even if I wanted to stay in Buffalo. I would at least want to hear what my worth is and then discuss with my wife.

I got no hard feelings of Tuch leaves. It is what is is. Sign and trade would be ideal but I don't feel like that's in the cards.

Why would they do that? They basically all performed until we stopped with what madw them strong, getting a random new 3rd game seems like a useless move. Ellis or Levi still have more than enough runway to maybe become a number one.

Bullshit. I still do.
Yes, Tage was a bonehead on the 2 on 1. Low hockey IQ.
But that was one easy save that may have propelled them into the conference finals.
Sorry. I’m not a UPL believer. I don’t think he or Lyon repeat this past season’s performances.

one of the goalies have to go since Levi is no longer waiver exempt and you cant carry 4 goalies. I think it is pretty clear Ellis doesn't have #1 goalie stuff. Levi has been rumored to be the one headed out for some time now. Why not replace Ellis with a goalie with some pedigree and actual potential.

I wonder if Krebs to Calgary is something they circle back on from two summers ago. The Flames still have a bunch of draft picks over the next three years that Buffalo could use in other roster shaping moves. Klapka and some 2nds?

I mean I agree with both of you lol

I don't want to live in a world where we're flipping a coin on which of our goalies gives us the best chance to win. While they both played well at times, they also both lost us games. I agree this was probably the best you're likely to get out of both of them and I was still nervous goalie would let them down all playoffs. The last goal was a single example, but I went into every game thinking there was a reasonable chance our goaltending would lose it for us.

Contrast that with Boston and I went into every game thinking no matter how bad we dominate them Swayman might just win it for them anyways. I want that type of goalie on our team again.
