Before that, there was nothing stopping Blake from trading Durzi, Faber, and letting Roy go. It's not like we really need Clarke, he's just not that type of defenseman.
Clarke is more like Byfield, who many people said that teams should trade for when he was slow to develop early, and Blake held onto him.

And I completely agree on Clarke not being a great fit. But, Blake being highly unlikely to move him in the near term is the bigger barrier. I mean, when has roster fit ever stopped Adams from making a trade?

I’m not that upset about the Petterssen deal/lack of one.

I’m upset we are so desperate to add skill and talent that Petterssen seemed like the only move we could make while we’ve sat on cap space and draft picks for the last 4 seasons and didn’t take advantage of cap strapped teams.

This is a culmination of incompetence, not one incompetent move

I am not that upset because the Canucks moved Miller first. My guess is that they ride out the rest of the season to see if removing Miller from the room sparks the team forward.

If it doesn't because the room is mad that Miller moved and not EPete, I expect the trade rumors to flair up between the end of the season and the end of June before the NMC kicks in.

But, with the cap exploding, the list of impact players that the Sabres can trade for will get smaller and smaller, I fear. So, that means they need to be more aggressive and more times where they don't take a swing means that we just sit in this same place where the roster is too young and inexperienced to compete...

Well I gave an example that Blake constantly trades his RDs, I don't know why. But I hope Adams is not going to target Clarke, then Byfield might have made more sense, although it also seems not very suitable for our situation.

I'm actually upset because that was the only 1C without trade protection that could have been traded. Now we still have a big black hole in Cozens in the top 6 and young Kulich who of course looks very promising, but we will still need a top 6 C to replace Cozens and it is unclear where to get him now.

Of course, a lot has been said about defense, but what can you do if our idiot GM just talks about RD when Marino, Jensen, Kovacevic, Fabbro, Borgen and Carrier were traded in front of his nose, and he apparently did not know about it.

My guess is that one reason is that he has had Drew Doughty on the roster. But, given that he's 35yo and signed for two more seasons beyond 24-25 means that he won't move Clarke and that Clarke is the heir apparent to Doughty.

I can't be upset at a GM for not trading for a guy that the other GM chooses not to trade.

For instance, I can't be mad about not trade for Ehlers in the summer when Winnipeg has held onto him.

Just like I won't get mad at Brandon Beane if the Browns keep Myles Garrett and the Raiders keep Maxx Crosby. A GM cannot force another GM to trade a guy they want to keep.

For instance, would it be reasonable for fans of another team to be mad that their GM hasn't traded for Bo Byram or Dylan Cozens yet?

Maybe, but it's a little weird to me that Clarke played very little time even when Doughty was injured. But overall I don't think they're going to trade him and we don't really need him, he's just not that type of defenseman.

I'm not upset with the GM, but the fact that we didn't get this guy is two different things.

But I'm upset with the GM for many other reasons, that our roster isn't very good, that it's too young, that we're in last place in the conference, etc.

Welp. Disappointing. Their center spine is pretty weak. Unfortunately, #1 Cs are hard to come by, so it'll be a while until we get another shot. This organization is just full of disappointments. The biggest one being Adams still having a job. Looking at the standings, and knowing he's still employed as the team gets worse every season has me feeling hopeless.

He's only a second year pro. He probably should be playing more minutes in the AHL than playing in the NHL.

I guess I don't get why anyone would be upset in general about not landing a guy in trade that didn't move in a trade.

I get wanting the roster to be better. But, my focus in that regard is about moves that have been made and moves that have been passed on as opposed to moves that really couldn't have happened.

Well I'm upset because I think we won't get EP40 now, that's all.

Well, there were a lot of players, especially RD, that Adams could have gotten, but for some reason he didn't. And now he says that we don't have enough RD and talks some nonsense about Byram.

Canucks just traded Miller. Chytil seems like a good player but he's obviously not as good as EP40 or Miller, plus he has a history of injuries, concussions I think. I just doubt the Canucks are excited to trade EP40 right now, especially to Buffalo, they're probably looking for a center and it would be ridiculous if they decided to go with their top 6 C's in Cozens and Chytil. If the Canucks wait until the summer and still want to trade EP40 (before his NMC on July 1st) then Buffalo will have a lot more competition to get him and there might just be better packages out there that we can't beat, just a better young center or something.

It is Seravelli, so very large cube of salt needed. But that could be interesting.
There is left overclock salt on the roads to re-use
And how many games did Chytil play last year? Has a little bit of an injury history. His attitude might be questionable but JT Miller is a good player.
Hr has had sd big injury histity.

Miller has 5 full yrs left. He might be fine next year but those last 3 yrs

2 years ago I was offering Kulich for Meier. It's not like I have sacred cows. I just take into the consideration of EP40s struggles to go a long with his caphit.. I will take some risk... I don't think i should have to take on all the risk. I don't want Tage playing Center.. I don't want Cozens playing Center.. so Kulich is needed. I will throw in any other prospect available.. I will throw in unprotected 1sts... I will throw in Quinn and Peterkas. .. My mindset is right where it should be.
I think you and I are in the minority with the Byram-Kulich for EP trade. Too much risk for my blood to be giving up a player like Kulich. Literally, any other young player they can have.

I'm not totally against Tage playing 2nd line C if need be. Though, I'd rather acquire EP, and run EP+ Kulich + McLeod as our top-3 centers. Lots of potential there. Seems like EP is a pipe dream, though. Let's just hope Kulich becomes a top line C. A 2nd line C is much easier to acquire, though still expensive.

Well, that was some depressing trade news to read this morning.

Kevyn Adams really isn’t going to make a single move, huh?

I can’t help but think back to his speech at the end of last season and laugh. You know, the one where he acted mad at the lack of progress and said this would (finally) be a “win now” season…

It was obviously just performative.

Either that or his hands truly are tied by Pegula and he’s not allowed to spend a single dollar more than he already has. I mean, to not make a single waiver claim or even a low level acquisition? Is he really that incompetent? (Don’t answer that… lol)

Power+ maybe good package for top 6 C and something else. Then maybe some GM is interested in Cozens and we can get RD.

He will probably make a move. But probably in the same vein as Mittelstadt for Byram where they don't really fix much, just shift one hole for another.

They should be moving from strength (Prospects/Picks/Cap space) for weakness (experience/leadership/high end skill) but that doesn't sound like the type of move wants to do.

As soon as we see the Pegulas pony up (economy class only, no checked bags/in flight wifi) for one of the two pro scounts visiting a team in person, everyone will know something is up.

Because those moves add money. Prospects and picks are cheap as f***.

Adams said he could see a move like Byram/Mitts last year in his future. Of course he can. The only money in money out team at the bottom of league spending.

BECAUSE THERE IS AN INTERNAL CAP. I don’t know who is left that needs to hear it…but they should get their f***ing ears cleaned if they haven’t yet.

I understand that Columbus had drama in the summer and because of that their salary cap is lower, but they are in the playoffs now with a cap of 69M. Flames with a cap of 70M are also somewhere there. Our cap is 81M or even I saw it was more, maybe 83M, but we are in last place in conference. Even if he has an internal cap of 83 million, it cannot be an excuse for such a team. I do not believe that Terry prevented him from trading for a top 4 RD, trading Jokiharju anywhere, the cap would have changed almost nothing or even become less.

Can't believe som fans fell for that. I started laughing when he made those faces.

Welp, Add Marcus Pettersson to the pile of RD KA has missed. Sigh...Lets just accept our gm is incapable and move on to a hobby.

Pit Trade Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor to Vancouver for 2025 1st round pick (from Rangers), Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais, and Melvin Fernstrom

Jesus, that's a haul. Though not exactly the "NHL ready" young kids Dubas was rumored to have wanted.
