Bill Armstrong 364 days of the year: We take great pride in selecting the best player available. BPA all the way!
Draft Day: SWING FOR THE FENSSSSESSS!!111!! I'M JOSE CANSECO!!!!
The problem that is forgotten (and I have tried to warn people about): BPA means what the individual reflection of BPA is. Michkov may have been BPA on our board at 5 but he may have declined to interview with us. Everyone moves up.

BPA is simply eye of the beholder at that time. BPA may mean who will be the player we must have on our team at age 25 as a game changing type of player? It could also mean who is the best prospect now at that very moment (screw growth potential).

When people were saying that BA always takes BPA and always follows his list, my only question would be what if his list and the "consensus BPA" don't coincide? We are finding out right now.

Button's interview clearly says he believes they drafted for need. He mentions it more as how you build a team. Not BPA.

Whatever, they are now Coyotes' prospects so hope for the best for them.
Not positional need. We're overflowing with LD and RWs.

The criteria to earn a spot on their list is clearly weighted towards size and aggressiveness. Michkov was BPA at 6 OA but he didn't check Bill's boxes.

Hey they are the guys paid to scout, draft and build this team so let's see in 4 or 5 years how they did. I think I'm thrown a bit by the fact that Keller is by far the best player on the team. He is smallish. Cooley is by far the best prospect they have. He is smallish. Even Guenther who is still the 2nd best prospect after this draft might be bigger but is far from physical and aggressive. Those are the players we are all excited about and the team is banking on.

Of course maybe I just explained why they did went the way they did this year.

Chicago went with Bedard and Moore, Arizona ended with Simashev and But, what a difference...

Watched the draft and been lurking a bit for a while….seems like with all that’s been going on, the Coyotes looked to gain an edge in heavily scouting these Russian players when not many other teams were. Sounds like if they were not Russian they would have gotten much more attention. Did everyone notice that every player in the top 15-20 picks got interviews and tv time, including Michkov…except the two AZ picks? Doesn’t seem like a coincidence.

The pedigree of our scouting staff has been talked about quite a lot, so I’m going to trust they know what they’re doing and that these may be very high ceiling players if it works out. We’ll have to wait and see!

^ To add to the above…I thought maybe they didn’t interview them because they couldn’t speak the language. But no, turns out this kid speaks better English than Ovie and taught himself and they still didn’t interview him. Typical media political BS.

I'm f***ing pumped. Rewatched a Simashev shift by shift in the khl, he's everywhere even in his draft year. But just straight up shreds his peers, couldn't find any Khl video of him sadly.
It’s what you expect from an 18 year old in the K. Locomotiv made it to the second round, so they were leaning heavy on their stars. He played limited minutes. Just for him to get into games is a big deal, they must think a lot of him. Hopefully, both can transition to the VHL and get KHL minutes next year as well.
