No reason to trade up for Honzek. If he is still available, you just need to choose between him and about 5 more prospects
My prediction is that Yzerman wants to make sure that he get's Honzek, lot's of smoke around him, scouting trips and the interview. Nashville is #15 and Honzek seems like a player that would interest Trotz. Pittsburg would probably want a extra pick and they can get their guy #17.

Rocking this with breakfast this morning. Hope it's a championship caliber day for the Wings.

Willander really concerns me.
He was a consensus 2nd round pick two mounts ago. Then a big U18’s pushed him to the top 10 conversation? Not sure I would bite on that. Seems like he is being pushed up just because there aren’t many D men to talk about this year.

He had a similiar draft year to Albert Johansson and in my opinion he profiles like a right handed Aljo. Both solid skating 2 way defenseman, but they aren’t going to blow anybody’s socks off with their puck skills and probably will never see the ice on an NHL power play.

Willander just played damn good hockey at U18.

I didn't even know who he was because I was waiting to see Sandin-Pellikka. On the first game for few periods I thought it was Pellikka. "This kid is looking good and looks bigger than 5'11." :D

Then saw the name on his back, "Willander", nice WTF moment :o and he kept playing well the whole tournament, as Pellikka didn't impress me at all.

I liked the player. I liked Willander. You should go after them you like. I've had much more problem to like about Sandin-Pellikka.

This was a draft simulation I did join and we did go only 4 rounds:

9. Detroit Red Wings: Ryan Leonard (F)
17. Detroit Red Wings (NYI): Tom Willander (RD)
41. Detroit Red Wings: Michal Hrabal (G)
42. Detroit Red Wings (STL): Koehn Ziemmer (RW)
43. Detroit Red Wings (VAN): Jayden Perron (C/RW)
73. Detroit Red Wings: Denver Barkey (C)
117. Detroit Red Wings (MIN): Alexander Rykov (W)

Fascinating. Truly. Everything I've read about his IQ and what he opens up for his linemates has been the opposite. I haven't watched the kid enough to form a strong opinion on that, but if there's debate, then sure, it changes the equation. But "low IQ" is news to me.

These quotes from the Black Book are concerning to me, but it's hard to say whether there's a ton of truth to it or if they just happened to find the scouts that weren't going to be a fan of Moore's to begin with.

“He plays keep away from his own linemates.” - NHL Scout, January 2023

“He’s winger. He plays the game by himself and cannot play down the middle in the NHL.” - NHL
Scout, February 2023

“The Brad Lambert of 2023? Best skater in the draft but terrible hockey sense ” HP Scout Jérôme
Bérubé, March 2023

“I laughed when I saw the Erie kid on his line at the U18. They put the two guys with no hockey
sense on the same line and neither want to pass the puck.” - NHL Scout, May 2023

“Everyone was telling me all year that he’s great but hasn’t played with good players…then he gets the two young kids who are super talented…flash forward to the U18 and the young kids are off his line and they give him two grinders. My take is nobody wants to play with him.” - NHL Scout, May 2023

I've done my June 2022 rank for 2023, and mid-season 2023 rank (somewhere at january after Bob's mid-season list) and now completed the 2023 rank.

Some biggest risers on final rank vs. mid-season rank.

Goalies:
- G Hrabal, rise +1,6 avg positions, RANK 39th overall, range 26-61.
- G Ratzlaff, rise +1,1 avg positions, RANK 91st overall, range 64-98.

All other goalies have fallen vs. final rank.

Defencemen:
- RD Reinbacher, rise +3,6 avg positions, RANK 8th overall, range 5-20.
- LD Simashev, rise +6,4 avg positions, RANK 24th overall, range 8-38.
- RD Willander, rise +9,1 avg positions, RANK 28th overall, range 8-37
- LW Molendyk, rise +2,6 avg positions, RANK 37th overall, range 23-57.

Faller, but not by much:
- RD Sandin-Pellikka, fall -0,9 avg positions, RANK 11th overall, range 5-38

Forwards:
- F Leonard, rise +1,9 avg positions, RANK 9th overall, range 6-22.
- F Wood, rise +2,6 avg positions, RANK 12th overall, range 5-21.
- W Perreault, rise +2,5 avg positions, RANK 15th overall, range 7-24.
- C Danielson, rise +2,2 avg positions, RANK 17th overall, range 7-27.
- C Stenberg, rise +2,2 avg positions, RANK 19th overall, range 10-28.
- C Honzek, rise +3,2 avg positions, RANK 25th overall, range 13-36.

I don't really know is it better to draft risers or fallers. Just interesting to notice how the draft will go. Are the risers hot commodity or not? Does Wings something else than others. I don't know why but usually it's Carolina who is taken the "falling steals" from my list.

Fallers:
- Benson, Moore, Yager, Sale, Ritchie, Cristall, Heidt at Top28.

You just find it out after... what 5-8 years were the risers worth the reach or not. This is a very long-term study I'm doing.

Oh man, I need another cup of coffee! Originally read this as "eating this for breakfast this morning" and thought, damn that is a real man! :Do_O

If you haven't eaten at least a shot glass's worth of glass by age 30, can you even be called a man?

This is my Top29 and think there's a big talent drop between 29th (Gauthier) and 30th (Halttunen).

So I will cut it on the 29th and we don¨t need a longer list for the first day. :) Both 9th and 17th should come from this damn list.

There's still 8 extra players, who have had their highest rank lower than our 17th pick. But the average is +30th. So it could come from outside this rank, that's a total possibility.

Seider was 18th ranked on my 2019 list, and they drafted him at 6th overall. And he is currently the 2nd best player from that draft after Jack Hughes.

Prepare for anything, don't be disapppointed for anybody. There is so much variance in NHL drafting that we can't even understand.

Be curious who we will select. Why did this happen if it's something surprising. Easier to live that way. :)

Don't think there's much chance that Leonard will be there at #9. If he is, I'd take him.

Had some wild fallers into the 2nd on normal randomness. This obviously won't happen because Yzerman will pick some people we don't even know with those 2nd's

Pronman has Wings taking Gabe Perreault with the 9th.

No he doesn't. He has the Wings taking Matthew Wood at 9.

He says that there is a mini tier starting at 9 of Wood, Danielson, and Willander. Said he's heard Danielson and Willander to Detroit, the most noise recently about Willander, but noted that Detroit often keeps things locked up tight. Also said he's heard Honzek and Perreault linked to Detroit.

I think his pick is driven off of his perceived skillset fit that is Wood, not that it's the most likely as he notes that Detroit might lean in a different direction due to Wood not being a true "compete type" that the Wings have been linked to previously.
