My two cents:
1. I've been on this site a long time and I still can't believe it crashes like clockwork every year.
2. This board gets so damn divisive. It always feels so black or white. Not to mention some people act like they know everything about a trade/move, yet probably don't know 1% of the details unless they have Gorton's phone tapped like the NSA.
3. The news about Shesty (and Buch) was devastating. Whether the playoffs were realistic or not, we all want to see this kid continue to play well.
4. I wanted to trade CK because I didn't want to be stuck with a 7-year deal. I don't think it was as black or white as trading or keeping him. Ideally, I would have preferred to keep him 3-4 years, but that's not realistic. I think a lot of people that wanted to trade him would have preferred to keep him on some kind of 2-4 year deal, but that was never an option.
5. I think CK could have gotten at least $7m in free agency if not more to some desperate team. At least his average salary was less than I was expecting.
6. Fast: I think they want to keep him and maybe they couldn't find a return that would have been worth giving him up for the rest of the season or make it to the open market. I think they will re-sign him.
7. Skjei: I wanted him gone despite knowing how it would impact the rest of the season. Skjei has regressed and I don't think he's worth the cap hit, plus we have a ton invested in Trouba and have to pay Tony. The left side of the defense might look pretty ugly the rest of the way, but I think the cap space will be valuable plus we have some prospects to fill in down the road. Maybe Hajek is called up and gets some valuable playing time.
8. Skjei's return - I thought we might be able to trade him for a young forward or prospects ready to play. It's tough because on one hand, he's looked like crap and you might think, how the hell did we get a first for him? On the other hand, you see how much defensemen are valued in trades over the years and you're thinking, so what's the other piece we're getting back with him? Makes you wonder if this decision was rushed or if Gorton assessed the market and just said, it might not be any stronger in the off-season. Tough one. The return feels a bit light, but we'll take the cap savings and first rounder.
