I think Carolina is nuts. They made some crazy moves for a team clinging to life support to just sneak in

I think they want to keep the forward motion going. Make some noise, show the fanbase they are all in. Only a few seasons ago they were in real trouble.

"Carolina Hurricanes saw the team finish dead last in the NHL – 30th – with a paltry average attendance of 11,776."

The team keeps piling assets, got off the hook of a bad contract, and retained one of its best players at well below market value. The only unambiguously bad news was the car accident.

It is good they moved out Brady IMO.

The true storyline this deadline has been the Tampa Bay Lightning. They were going to pay whatever necessary to polish off that team.

Barclay Goodrow for a 1st, god damn.

and some think the cap will greatly increase so don’t worry about dishing out high salaries today? Without a significant boost from a new TV contract these teams have such low operating income they can’t survive under a higher cap.

Gotta love the fans who act like organizations can only do one thing at a time. We’re talking to Kreiders agent so no one answer the phone if someone calls about Fast. All work stops until Kreider makes a decision.

Ya it's not like they have more than one phone or computer in the organization. o_O

Gotta love fans who put all their trust in a GM with a degree in Physical Education and Sports Management.

I’d rather have Fast then a mid round 2021 pick like Namestnikov got. Just saying. Maybe if Buchnevich doesn’t get hurt he is dealt. Not always that easy.

I see at lot of people mad about no trading Fast but most likely the offers they got were like a 4th round pick. At that point they might as well just keep him and see if they can get into the playoffs. Plus they got a extra first rounder and have an extra third from the Zucc trade

Better than fans who make proclamations without knowing what offers they really had. Give me Gorton over the whiny fans

Read the same claims about Whiny fans from those who wanted Barkley and endorsed Dave Gettleman. Likely the same fans here. (then they disappear or do a 180 and kill he GM)

My biggest gripe about potentially extending Kreider was that this might be the last time this team gets a shot at acquiring an extra first rounder for the foreseeable future, so the fact that they were able to shed some salary with Brady AND get another first (which may potentially be a top 20 pick) helps ease my fears about re-signing Chris a bit. Still, I'm not happy with the 7th year at all - even if the dollar amount isn't terrible.

As for the outrage over Fast still being here, It seems like his value isn't as high on the open market as it is amongst the organization, which has been said on here for months now. If you think it's because Gorton waited too long or didn't work the phones enough, I don't know what to tell you.

Jesper Fast is like that little multi-tool you keep in your junk drawer. Sure, you own nicer screwdrivers, scissors, flashlights etc., but if you're hanging at home with a friend and they say, "Wow, that's a handy little thing, I'll give you 10 bucks for it" The money you make is not nearly as valuable as not having to walk into your cold f##cking garage everytime you need to tighten a loose screw somewhere in your kitchen.

**and years of NHL front office experience

I think we’ve see poor moves we knew were poor moves since before Espo traded for Bergeron and then fired him before the playoffs. I don’t believe you have to reside in a front office to have a clue.
