I’m just thinking... like a 2C in a buyers market garnered a 20th and Lemieux. A 3C in a sellers market? 1+2 was the minimum I would expect.

Well, we kind of got some good bounces to push it to 20.

But think of it this way as well, let's say the pick doesn't move --- it's 19 and 50.

You could, theoretically, package those two picks and get yourself into the top half of the draft. So there is some benefit about being within firing range and having the ammo to make a hit.

They always make me nervous Crypto - the fan base is intolerable. They were so happy in 2014 and 2015 when we came up short.

You are right about that fan base, intolerable and delusional but they are nowhere near a cup contender. Lets be real. I think we have more talent and better prospects than they do.

For anyone wondering

But may never develop into anything like Kreider already is. Your argument is classic "rebuild" mindset--get a younger guy and keep him for longer. The issue is, you just can't make that guarantee and if you can't why make deals that keep the Rangers in constant rebuild mode.

Just because a soldier isn't guaranteed to kill the enemy with every bullet fired, doesn't mean you don't give him a gun.

You give enough picks to a quality GM, something good will happen, maybe better than Kreider. They don't need a perfect record with each pick. But every additional pick improves the odds of hitting someone good.

A stockpile of prospects will produce more quality young NHL guys than a thin farm covered up by aging vets on UFA contracts.
