In a previous post I mentioned that Gregor was hearing from league sources that April 15th would be the draft lottery.

We now have confirmation. The Draft Lottery will be held on Saturday April 30th.

here's a good question for ye;

is Toronto, Calgary, Van the absolute worst lottery result? Or is Matthews to Van/CGY the worst? I know it doesn't matter cuz McDavid but still....

pick your poison. Calgary and Van is a wash just cuz of how much you play against him. Calgary would be a bit worse IMO. So, worse in the sense you have to compete against this guy for years to come, and he will give a massive kickstart to either Calgary or Van in terms rebuilding.

Toronto would be the worst case scenario because of the fervent coverage it would receive with the eastern based media, and the bedlam it would create with all fans. Matthews in Toronto. The second saviour is here. The media blitz would be insane.

Columbus probably "deserves" Matthews the most out of the crappy teams... would give that franchise a legit superstar and maybe help them build up a fanbase where they really haven't been able to gain traction so far.

Of course the Oilers will win the #1 pick :) ... but if by some strange fluke they don't... I wouldn't mind seeing the Blue Jackets win it.

Can you imagine this summer if they draft Matthews and sign Stamkos?

I think we're going to have to reconcile ourselves to the strong likelihood that at least one of Calgary, Vancouver or Toronto is going to come away with one of the top 3 players in this draft. There's no point getting too bent out of shape about it.

IMO McDavid trumps any of them regardless.

If the Oilers don't win it, I hope Winnipeg wins it. Matthews can be their Dale Hawerchuk of this generation. They deserve it after not having an NHL team for all those years.

I agree.

Here's a good podcast quote on the subject;

"You stole our hockey team so now we're stealing your children" winnipeg to arizona

Honestly Matthews can go anywhere but Calgary and Vancouver for all I care. Could sting if he goes to Arizona as well with OEL, Domi and Duclair already there and if Strome and Dvorak reach their potential. I wouldn't really care in the Jets win him, or anyone from the east. I don't like Toronto at all, but I wouldn't really care if they got him because at least their management is doing their rebuild right these days and wouldn't mind seeing some of the eastern Canadian teams competitive again.

I really just don't want Calgary to win Matthews or Laine. If Vancouver wins one of them eh whatever, they're still not going to be much of a threat in a few years post Sedin era because none of their young players really have elite upside, and while they have a couple good pieces on D, they aren't really elite players just good 2/3's.

If not Edmonton, I hope for Ottawa, Columbus, Montreal in that order

ottawa is my 2nd fave team, so that is who i am cheering for... columbus probably "deserves" it the most, but i HATE ohio state, so therefore wish nothing but pain and suffering for all columbus sports fans, lol... winnipeg is my 2nd hope to win the lottery... i actually don't want the oilers to win it, although i do want to finish 2nd (to get laine)

Just did the simulator. Top 3 picks:

1. Toronto
2. Winnipeg
3. Vancouver

4. Oilers

If we end up 4th, I hope we take Tkachuk. Sounds like the type of player we need more of.

"His bloodlines might be a clue to why he is an edgy high energy winger with offensive upside. Leads by example, shift after shift, never taking one off. He is the grease that make the line he is on go. Will hustle back and break up a pass in the defensive zone. Win all the battles in the dirty areas. Goaltenders are acquainted with him because he comes by frequently. He is always winning battles down low, and along the wall with hits contact, and disruption. Runs into the defensive player in the quest for the puck. He is ready and willing to line up at any of the forward positions with authority. has a nice release and heavy shot. A load to contend with when he goes to the net. Can come out of the corner with a defender on his back and still make a play with a pass or disrupting the front. Sure there are players in the class that advanced as scorers, but they can’t match him 60 minute intensity. Still a work in progress, who doesn’t necessarily jump out as dominant scorer, just a winner."

I don't even know why people care so much about Toronto. They are far away. Go win Matthews and sign Stamkos. I couldn't care less. I don't watch SporstCentre anyways.

The WORST is if CGY wins the lottery. Then Vancouver. I don't hate Vancouver much anymore, but they really got lucky with that Naslund trade and then transitioning straight into the Sedin Era. They haven't sucked for 16 years.

I don't care if OTT or WPG wins it.

The most titillating end to a horrible season I can think of;

30. Toronto
29. Winnipeg
28. Columbus
27. Vancouver
26. Calgary
25. Buffalo
24. Arizona
23. Edmonton
22. Montreal
21. Ottawa
20. New Jersey
19. Minnesota
18. Philadelphia
17. Carolina

and then the lottery results in a draft order of;

1. Winnipeg - Austin Matthews
2. Ottawa - Patrik Laine
3. *Montreal/Edmonton - Jesse Puljujarvi
4. Toronto - Jakub Chycrun
5. Columbus - Pierre Luc Dubois
6. Vancouver - Alex Nylander
7. Calgary - Matthew Tkachuk
8. Buffalo - Mikhail Sergachev
9. **Edmonton/Arizona - Olli Juolevi
10. Montreal - Michael McLeod

*TRADE TO ANNOUNCE -- 2016 1st, Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall and the 2017 1st for PK Subban and Lars Eller.

**TRADE TO ANNOUNCE -- 2016 1st for Jordan Eberle.

Then hold a press conference in Toronto announcing Steven Stamkos has signed a 6 year 8 million dollar contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Hold a second press conference in Vancouver announcing Milan Lucic has signed a 4 year 5 million dollar contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Calgary is my least favourite option just because I haven't come across a more ridiculous fan base online. But living in Leaf country, I'll never hear the end of how Matthews is probably better than McDavid... You wouldn't believe how dumb Leaf media makes you average casual fan around here.

Toronto wouldn't even bother me that much, maybe they'll stop whining about how the center of the hockey universe is so unlucky, and how the NHL should rig the lottery so that they win. The Leafs will be the #1 story on TSN regardless of them winning Matthews or not, at least they're in the eastern conference and we won't see Matthews tormenting us once a month. Worst case is him going to Calgary, and then Vancouver. Anywhere else and it doesn't really bother me that much.

Personally I hope we finish the season strong and finish drafting in 5-7th range and draft Chychrun. Send him back to junior for another year and properly develop him.

I wouldn't be unhappy with this.
