Shero said on SiriuxXM that he had a very long conversation yesterday with David Cont about the draft...

Also said he wants a coach in place by the draft most likely

Unless we trade up, or trade out completely my money is on Barzal if he really wanted a center as some other posters guess.

Seems like the next true center after Strome (whether others I can see ending up at wing).

Toews wasn't nearly as highly touted back then. At the time Staal was the consensus better pick by a good margin - something worth remembering about prospects.

That's reading what pundits say with hindsight in mind.

For all the crap Lou gets for only drafting Henrique as a forward, that's Shero sole forward that developed and that's a 2nd. overall.

I get this feeling too and I would like that a lot.

He knows the success in PIT was built around its centers. We're obviously not getting a Crosby or Malkin but I see Shero trying to put that framework in place first.

I don't think he messes with the D much.

I wonder how Staal would've done as a PF on one of the top 2 lines as opposed to being the 3C.

While I don't want Crouse, I find it hard to believe all the professional scouts are wrong and everyone on this board is right. Can he bust? Absolutely, but so can anyone else you'd rather pick over him. My hope is we take Barzal and in the second Sprong is still there with Bracco.

No the problem with Crouse isnt that he will bust... Crouse may be the safest choice there, he will most likely be an NHL player, but we need a game changer, not a 2nd line powerforward

Oh I completely get that, but some people are so anti Crouse because they don't see him as becoming a legit NHLer from what I've seen. Like I said, I want Barzal.

My reaction, too.

If Hanifin fell to 6th, I have a hard time believing that the Devils will pass on him.

However, now with Shero being the GM instead Lou, it's no longer a certainty.

If you go back and look at all the defensemen taken in the top 5 over the last 15 years or so, you'll find that the majority (about 2/3 by my count) never lived up to the hype. By contrast about 60% of forwards drafted did basically live up to their hype. Defense is much harder to project and we don't need it anyway. Best forward available and don't risk buyers' remorse. The realistic chances that Hanifin is the next Doughty are 1 in 10 at best.

In futures? No it wouldn't. Colorado would know he was a goner either way. They wouldn't charge us more because he rather sign here.

ROR doesn't just want out of Col., he wants top dollar from whoever will pay it. He’s a bigger mercenary than a certain Russian who gets that label around here ever was.

Ain't no word I hate more in the context of professional sports than "Mercenary."

Why is it wrong to want to earn as much as possible during your relatively limited playing career?

If another company offers me 20% more than the one I'm at to do the same job you KNOW i'm jumping ship.

what I want to know is why the subject is switching from Prospects to a certain someone who should really not be mentioned? (directed more toward tretyak than you, btw)

I just remembered that we are going to get a really talented player this summer.

Nice.
