Stralman needs to play on the powerplay more. Girardi got more pp minutes against Boston. I just dont get that. Stralman is the Rangers 2nd best offensive dman.

I would put Stralman with Richards and let Del Zotto qb the 2nd unit.

Girardi got PP minutes because the Rangers had a PP with a one-goal lead in the third. Then Tortorella decided to put 5 forwards out for the 5-on-3 that was right after and no one knew what to do.

Seriously, why is Richards shooting on the 5-on-3?

Someone needs to be traded/traded for or get fired. There are no excuses why a team with this many offensive weapons should be impotent on the PP.

Whoever coaches the powerplay should be fired.

We can have Gretzky, Lemieux, Bobby Orr, and two more Gretzky clones, and they'll still be horrible with the man advantage.

Trade for who, exactly? I'm not saying our team is stacked, but we look solid on paper.

My instinct says that the best way to upgrade our powerplay would be to find a bottom pair defenceman who can and WILL look to shoot, ala Bryan McCabe. Whether or not that would be a good idea is another matter.

dump and chase, Tort style.

Do you realize how many teams dump and chase on the power-play? It's an effective way to gain the zone IF you time it properly and have someone hauling ass on the far side boards. I'd say that every team in the NHL dumps the puck in on the power-play at least a couple times a game..

BY FAR...

Theeeeeeeee worst PP I've ever seen in my 30 years of watching hockey.

Words cannot describe the flagrant depths of pathetic ineptitude these idiots are capable of and display on a regular basis.

At least we didn't ice the puck on a powerplay today. Because we routinely do it. It happened in every game except for this one. How does that even happen?

Now now, have some perspective.

We were truly worse last year! I know, it's hard to believe but it's true!

the PP unit needs to go on a group date and share a sundae to get some sense of teamwork into their power play.

The power play has sucked since 1997.

I know that sounds outlandish, and I welcome ANYONE to correct me if I am wrong here. But I have been going over it in my head, and I cannot remember a time when this team has had a good power play in that time frame. And it doesn't not seem to matter WHO is on this team, WHO we bring in. Player after player, year after year. They ALL have the same philosophy. Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, NEVER SHOOT. I have been screaming about this as far back as 2004 that I can remember, but I know it's been bad before that.

Am I crazy here?? Does any player who puts on a New York Rangers jersey immediately become a passing never shooting machine?? Why can't this organization get it into their head that traffic in front, screening, even the occasional storming of the net might actually work if they just gave it a try?

I give up. :help:

Look at how the oilers play a 5-on-3 for example. They force the PK triangle to clamp down and make the area very small. Then RHN moves the puck around and Yakupov fires from the point, for example. Or he looks across the crease to Gagner or someone else.

05-06 and 06-07, NYR's PP was 8th in the NHL. The highest we've ranked since then was in 09-10 at 13th.

Our PP has either sucked or been half-decent at best since Jagr left.

Do we have anyone who can shoot on the fly....especially at the points. It seems to me that we give the PK too much time to get back into the lanes by settling the puck and then taking a shot rather than shooting one timers like Jagr used to do from the right circle.

Ok. I knew they were somewhat decent in 05-06 and 06-07, but I didn't think they were ranked as high as 8th. But even in those years and with Jagr, they have had a constant problem with passing WAY too much. I remember being at games and screaming at him while he was on the ice cause of his refusal to shoot.

Gaborik has a nice - not AWESOME - one-timer, IMO, but he's rarely set up in a position to one-time it. Most of the time he gets the puck, then tries to get closer to the net and wrist one in.

And our defensemen are not really good at shooting the puck, either.
