that del zotto shot frequently is a weak wrister from the point. mikes slapper leaves alot to be desired.

hardly a weapon that teams will fear. and yes, the n they cheat of that weak del zotto point shot and the pp looks anemic.

so, given all that, i fully expect a healthy dose of mdz on the point.

remember, this is the same coach that fed us heaping portions of mike rozy as our pp point man for years :shakehead

Reading the player and coaches quotes and reading in between the lines I think they are tweaking the PP system.
I believe you'll see more of an Umbrella type PP with Nash parked on the half boards where he can take it straight to the net, shoot, or go back to point.

Two staionary point men did not work last year and really will not work unless you have a guy with a Chara type shot.

The Umbrella is much more conducive to movement.
I think Richards has convinved Torts to change things up. we shall see I guess.

The team is going to utilize a lot of passing, a lot more than last season. Expect a lot of shots from the point from Del Z, Richards to take shots instead of Gaborik or Nash, and to see the big body presence of Callahan in front of the goalie.

Concerned about the Powerplay.

The PP still hasn't improved it seems although it's been 3 games they look just like last season, they look lost on the PP. You would think we would be dynamic on the PP. Who's to blame?

i think everyone can agree its looked atrocious, and its not like we dont have to players to have a good powerplay... at first glance theres two things i would change, shrink the playing field pinch the defenders in so that the shots arent always coming from the blue line, obviously dont pinch so far that well get caught on a tipped pass and have half the other team going the other way but get the defenders on their toes and moving around and the defensemen can move, not getting the defenders moving is my second point, theres not quick sneaky passes, everything is telegraphed the guys down low are very stationary sneak a guy around the back to the other side of the net and overload one side get the defense moving and have these guys thinking about where the forwards are, most of the time they know guys are in certain places because they dont move, thats just my quick assesment but what do i know.... its not execution because we have the talent its the strategy and that falls on the coaches, other teams with far less talent have good powerplays no reason we cant.

With each passing year it becomes apparent that we will not have a competent powerplay under this regime. The players have changed and the powerplay still sucks. This is the only logical explanation.

I would give it more time this year. Don't undersell the two teams we've played thus far; Pens have had a top PK for years and the Bruins are no slouches either. The team still looks to be gelling and finding their game. I know it looks like business as usual but let's just wait and see. Or maybe I'm just being too optimistic lol.

If it doesn't improve under this unit which is insanely talent it further points to the fact that Sullivan needs to relieved of his pp duties

Stralman needs to play on the powerplay more. Girardi got more pp minutes against Boston. I just dont get that. Stralman is the Rangers 2nd best offensive dman.

I would put Stralman with Richards and let Del Zotto qb the 2nd unit.

In all seriousness. The PP is going to cost us games and it's not going to be pretty.

Last night was a perfect example, we had to score and should have scored 1 if not two PP goals last night.

Instead Boston scores late in the 3rd and pushes the game into OT.

If we put a PP away, we secure the win. We cannot afford to be so sloppy and rusty on the PP. I don't get it.

I do like MDZ and Dan G. Taking those big bombs from the point, we need that.

What we don't need is Staal missing the net and the puck leaves the zone:sarcasm:

They need a few tonight against the team I LOATHHHH.

LGR!

3 games into the season its decided that our PP is going to be garbage.

*sigh*....ranger fans.... *shakes head*

Probably because it's the same **** from previous seasons.

How the **** does this team go on a 5-on-3 and Boston ends up with more shots on goal, and that's including that short man advantage they had thereafter?

while its always noble to be the mature, calming influence amongst a bunch of overreacting newbies and some veteran posters who prefer hyperbole :naughty:

inferno, you cannot be serious.....

either you are not paying attention or you are burying your head in the sand. this pp, this year, has been abysmal or whatever word is worse than abysmal.

3 games in or whatever doesnt matter given what we've been through the past few seasons under the "torts way" of doing the pp.

our pp has been a DISADVANTAGE so far. you cannot make this stuff up.

end of story.

Excuse me if this idea was already posted, as I only skimmed the posts.

PP1
Nash-Richards-Gaborik-Del Zotto-McDonagh.
PP2
Nash-Nashards-Nashorik-Del Nasho-McNashagh.

We haven't got enough secondary talent to stack the top 5, but if we don't put all our best players out at once then no one will score on either line because the system is so futile. Everyone involved in the NYR power play, coaches included, should be forced to watch the SJ @ EDM goals from the other night over and over again until they realize just how wrong they're doing it.
