Dz needs to turn on the DZ at the end of game 2 vs. caps.

I was too emotional to remember details and hurts to look back but I think he rattled a few off the iron and scored one (maybe a cally deflection, can't recall).

We need someone who can put a puck through a screen to either the front of the net or the back.

Good power plays often have a bombardment aspect to it. We haven't had that in years.

Powerplays go as talent goes. This is the most talented Ranger team in almost 2 decades. I think they'll be fine.

Complaints if it falters this year will be justified - as opposed to the stuff from years past when the team simply didnt have the personnel.

Some very talented teams have ****** powerplays. See Chicago and Detroit last year.

Brad Richards is one of the best PPQBs in the game, on the right point.

In order for him to be successful there, he needs a left shooting playmaker on the right side of the ice. Like LeCav in Tampa and Riberio in Dallas. That is a MUST. Gabby cannot pin that thinking process down. We saw that sooooooooo many times last season.

Looking at posts above, I see some that jus throws names out there with no explanation how they would formats themselves on the ice. The PP is very simple, but it requires fundamental structures. A left shooting playmaker on the right side mostly working out with the right point or a right shooting playmaker on the left side mostly working out with the left point. Look at ANY successful PP. This is a HUGE problem for us. HUGE. We are forced to rely on Stepan and MDZ on the left side while we dont take full use of BR. Last year our PP was one of the worst I the league be because we didn't have the personal to put a by-the-book-PP on the ice. Our PP definitely could have been like top 10-15 had Derek Stepan just been a left shooting forward, which would have enabled us to use him on the right side close to BR.

Can Nash be that player that along with BR can figure out how to move the puck??? Maybe, but it's not a given.

If not, I would actually consider getting Tim Connoly from TOR on waivers to fill this void. He could replace Halpern 5 on 5 and PP.

PP1
--------------Nash---------
------------net--------------
-----Cally------------------
---------------------Connoly
-Stralman-----------------
----------------BR----------

Pp2
----------------------------
------------net-------------
---------Kreids------------
Step------------------Gabby
--------------------------------
---MDZ-----------McD------

Too bad Connolly will be injured half the time.

IF Nash can handle that role (and he will of course be given a chance), we would go with something like:
--------------[Kreider]---------
------------net--------------
-----Cally------------------
---------------------Nash
-Stralman-----------------
----------------BR----------

An option is to NOT play BR on the point, but play him as a forward, with possibly Stepan on the point:
--------------Nash---------
------------net--------------
-----Cally------------------
---------------------------BR
-Stepan-------------------
-------------Stralman-----

I have Stralman on the point since he has the most potential there if the play is set up on the right side. But that of course depends on how much and well he plays. Mdz/McD/Girardi/Staal are of course nearby options.

Gabby can of course play behind the net. But, if played in more of a marginal role, it might be better to save him for the 2nd unit.

Can the defensemen PLEASE set up on their off sides so they can take one-timers?

Can't wait for the first game and looking at our PP...

Key things are going to be;

* Puck Movememt
* Screening
* shooting..

Nothing flashy please...quick and tape to tape passes and one timers..

I hope the PP unit sticks together :laugh:
I have Cally, Nash and Gabby in my pool. 2/3 players gets a point every PPG, I'm happy.

I've always thought Staal had a booming shot. Just look at his OT goal against WAS last year in that OT game.

I dunno about "booming" per se, but it's hard and he gets it on net. Does a good job of getting it through traffic, too.

Staal has a hard shot, and its certainly good enough to act as a triggerman on a PP. The problem is:

a)He takes a long time to shoot. Even just mechanically, he takes quite a bit of time to wind up and fire.

b) The most damning thing about him, in general, is that he handles the puck like a hand grenade.

My concern with the PP is the lack of a one-timer threat from the right circle. It's so easy for teams to overload the one side because they don't have to cover that shooting lane. Stepan, for all of his abilities, has a pretty lousy one-timer. He's also a pass-first guy, so I'd rather see him QBing the 2nd unit than manning the dot on the first unit.

I'd also like to see McDonagh get 2nd unit time with Stralman this year:

Stepan - Boyle - Kreider/Hagelin
Stralman - McDonagh

That would be my 2nd unit. First unit, I have no clue. Go get Michael Ryder so we can have a RH sniper on the off-wing. :laugh:

Why not have Gaborik be that one-timer on the right circle? I know he's known for his wrist shot but I'm sure his one-timer is just as deadly, no? Also, I think that McD could be a bit of a threat on the PP as he's shown that he's got some offensive capability.

You can't teach some one to have a hard and powerful shot. You can't teach a good one timer. I think Del Zotto has a GOOD shot, just an inaccurate one.

You can have an accurate shot but if your shot is as weak as Shane Churla's was during his stint here then it won't matter how accurate you are.

What is this nonsense? You can most definitely teach someone how to shoot harder and have a better one-timer... how do you think people learn?

Del Zotto has a good slap-shot but he just needs to practice keeping it down more when he's on the point. The thing about him as that he can rotate down low if need be and still be deadly because his wrist shot/snap shot is pretty deadly.

Swap Richie and Stepan and I think our top line is pretty much complete.

i did think about it, but richie and mcdonagh are both left shots. i don't like the idea of having 2 left shots starting on the point on a 4-forward pp. same reason that i like mcd over mdz. having 4 forwards you don't have the same pinching ability-- so mcdonagh's speed and IQ is a lot more reliable to recover and still allow him to pinch. i don't see it as a workable pp unit anyway, since the 2nd unit would be too grindy and del zotto would be playing under 7-10 minutes a game.
