Is there a particular reason why Hrivik is with the big boys and Fast/Lindberg/Kristo are testing with the prospects?

I would assume it is because the brass feels he is most likely to make the team. There was chatter about him getting a long look last year in camp before he got hurt.

But that's just a guess.

Giannone tweeting some nice tidbits from the players

@jaygeemsg: Marc Staal is ready, but wondered if he'd ever play again when injury occurred. Expects butterflies, high excitement in first preseason game

Torts came up with the Stop Coaching Pat. He was annoying Tortorella during a Q & A. Leonard was one of the guy who would push the HC's buttons and ruin his day. Wait until Vancouver has a 5 game losing streak. The warm and fuzzy Tortorella will be gone. He was the Sedin twins to block shots and play on the PK. Just wait.

I actually like Del Zotto and defend him to my friends and family who call him Del Zaster. He really needs to take the next step in his game. Become that offensive defenseman which the Rangers haven't had since Leetch. Those 2 players aren't in the same zip code as players but in today's NHL there is not a defenseman close to Leetch. A decent offensive D is hard to find in the 2013 NHL.

What a ridiculous situation. Stepan needs to take a 2 year deal and the Rangers need to increase their offer. Its like the NHL and NHLPA. They waited until the last minute to make a deal after spending 4 months posturing.

As long as Richards is bough out next summer, a higher number for the 2 year deal is not a major problem. NYR should still have the space to re-sign Henril, Callahan, Girardi, and the lot.

The only issue arises if we chase another free agent. I dont think we will. So I think Stepan will be signed before the first preseason game.

Yup. Given the Kadri deal, it's going to take 3+ mil per on a 2 year deal. Call it 3.2 and get it done.

Pal Ryan McDonagh has told Derek Stepan to "stay positive"

Easy for McDonagh and his 6 year deal to say.

I hope they are at the point where a 2 year bridge deal is understood by both parties. It should come together pretty quickly if thats the case. Sather's got plenty of fat to trim off of this frankenstein roster.

Step wants to be at that camp. It's pretty obvious that it is killing him to not be there.

The NHL had $2.4B in revenue for the 48 game season. Project that over a full 82 game season. $4.1B. That's a $75M cap. Stan Bowman mentioned a $75M cap during the summer for 14-15. NHL revenue was $3.2B-$3.3B in 11-12. $4B is probably too optimistic but if you project $2.4B in 48 games and a 99 day season over a normal NHL season. Its $4B.

Good to hear regarding Staal

Leslie Treff @HFNYRangers
Staal, who did not look his best on the ice, says that he wants to use training camp to get up to speed physically.

Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord
Marc Staal says his perception on ice is greatly improved, both depth perception and sensing where the other players are.

Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord
Marc Staal adds he will wear a tinted visor rather than a regular visor. Just feels more comfortable. At first wore tinted to cut down glare

Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord
Marc Staal adds right eye issue no longer impacting off-ice life. Used to need sunglasses outside, no more.

Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord
As for offseason work, Marc Staal said he did more skating than usual this summer.

Hags..

Leslie Treff @HFNYRangers
Hagelin has not lost any of his speed.

Zucchini I mean Zucc...

Zuccarello bests Kreider? Hard to believe but, True. Zuccarello looks to have gotten faster.

Obviously not killing him enough. Lets not forget he controls his agent, not the other way around.

Yet if he isn't listening to his agent's advice, why have an agent? At some point, yeah, if the agent is still pushing and enough if enough, Stepan may want to overrule him. But that time hasn't come yet. It's not a big deal if he misses a few days of training camp.

Is he a professional athlete or someone obligated to play because you want him to? Just curious

He is a professional athlete. I suggest you use your limited curiosity on more important matters.

Or perhaps understand that Stepan has no leverage and this dance with his contract is now officially hurting him as camp has started. It has zero to do with me wanting him to play.

Could mean the difference between being a top-six forward and being a tweener for Zucc. Hard to believe he'd be consistently faster than Kreider, but it's a good sign if true.

We dont know the inside info on negotiations. But if he has an agent thats still pushing for a 4-6 year deal, that should be stopped immediately by the player. It ain't happening.

If they're agreed on the bridge deal and haggling over money, thats fine, and I'd expect that to be ironed out over the next couple days.
