Don't forget taking on Dickerson's salary to get Cimber.

I think they actually wanted Dickerson's lefty bat though, and he only cost us $2.25 mil. And Cimber actually has a 3 year history of being a good reliever with 2 years of control beyond this one, so I think they would have done that deal anyway, even with Liam here.

Fair enough... I just liked the strategy, at the time, of adding a handful of cheap-ish, high-risk/high-reward guys. They're already set up way better for next year then they were for this year (with Romano more proven, Mayza taking a step forward, and Cimber and Richards added), but I agree they need to add an arm or two.

To be honest, I don't even think they need to make a big splash in the pen. Another big high leverage arm would be awesome, but with the quality of the rest of the team they really just need a few reliable guys (Cimber and Richards types) who aren't going to ruin game after game.

Maybe a matter of opinion, but I hate that strategy. I want 4-5 reliably good relievers in my pen. By my count we have 2: Romano and Cimber. Looking at their history, you can't rely on Mayza and Richards to be good or Mayweather to be healthy. So I think we need to add 2-3 good, reliable high-leverage relievers. If Semien or Ray bolt, we'll have more than enough money to get it done. If they stay, we'll have to get creative and maybe go the trade route.

Yeah, that one was a really good trade no matter what options they had in the pen.

If Semien or Ray leave, I would prioritize replacing them with impact players rather than spending a bunch on the bullpen. I still want them to make a couple additions, but nothing close to a Hendriks-level move - I think that money is better spent elsewhere.

If Semien leaves, I just go with Biggio at 2b. Otherwise, you have to trade him, would you not? He doesn't have nearly the same value as an OF. Although I guess you can put Semien's $$ into a 3B instead then (Bryant?).

Yeah, that's basically what I mean... you want to add and impact position player and an impact starter, whether those are Semien and Ray or someone else.

If Semien is back I think Biggio is moved for sure. He’s not a super utility kind of player.

Fit to be tied: AL Wild Card chaos abounds

Re-reading these scenarios in the link above just proves this system is idiotic.

To tie:
-Jays go 3-0
-Boston AND Seattle go 2-1 AND/OR Tampa sweeps the Yankees

OR

-Jays go 2-1
-Boston AND Seattle go 1-2

OR

-Jays go 1-2
-Boston AND Seattle go 0-3

To win a spot outright:
-Jays go 3-0
-Boston AND Seattle go 1-2

OR

-Jays go 2-1
-Boston and Seattle go 0-3

There is no scenario where the Jays go 1-2 where they can win a spot outright.

Like one of you guys work for sportsnet. Almost word for word they took what was said in the message and put it in a graphic

Marlins' Joe Panik: DFA'd by Miami
Panik was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Friday.

Panik didn't travel with the team back to Miami since his wife is due to give birth, and the Marlins opted to remove him from the 40-man roster rather than move him to the paternity list. The veteran infielder struggled in 95 games between Toronto and Miami this season with a .208/.266/.284 slash line, all of which are career lows.

Montoyo: Bring him home!!

I think you could run with a tandem at 2b.

Otto Lopez looks like he could be a legit option next year. Kevin Smith is another option.

Love the optimism but sweeping the Os is the bare minimum it’s gonna take to get in. Even if they do that I’m not too confident they’ll be in.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. If the Jays had one more win than they do now I would be very confident they would make it. SO if they had 90 wins instead of 89.
