The number of people who have given up on the team because they're two games out of a playoff spot with eight games to play (including three against the team they're chasing) is fascinating.

Context matters. This team has proved that they can't handle pressure time and time again.

They could still make it but the flaws are real

They erased something like an eight game deficit in three weeks to get into a Wild Card spot. Last time they faced the Yankees they swept them in four straight. The flaws aren't any more real than they are for any other team.

They seem to do well after everyone writes them off and there is no pressure. Talent is certainly not the problem (offensively)

Or they are just a young team in their first real pennant race and there are going to be ups and downs that come with that. They have played in three separate home fields during the season and lets not forget we are like 2 years off being an actual tire fire of a team. If anyone was told at the beginning that we would be fighting for a playoff spot going into the last week of the season every single fan would have taken it. They may or may not end up making the playoffs this season, that is to be determined but this group is set up long term to be a nightmare for everyone else regardless of what way it goes.

Yeah, this just strikes me as looking for a narrative to explain something that is ultimately pretty random (distribution of success and struggles over the course of a season).

After the trade deadline they struggled and they were a young team that just wasn't ready for the playoffs. Then they went on a rampage and crushed everyone to get back into it and they were an obscenely talented group with a never-say-die attitude. Then they had 3 or 4 bad games and now they're an inexperienced group that can't handle the pressure.

I get that the timing is frustrating, but everyone they're fighting with for the Wild Card has had a reeeally ugly stretch recently, too. These are just the ups and downs of a baseball season, and it's no more meaningful for the Jays now than it was for the Yankees when they collapsed last week or the Red Sox the week before that.

This was my fear when we made the great run to get into a wildcard position. That run was great but a quick 2-3 game slide and the Yanks winning those nights we lose and we're quickly out of a spot.

It's definitely not over though. Win the weekend games, stay within 2 games and go and sweep the yankees again, then we're in the drivers seat going into the final series.

that homerun jacket is annoying the shit out of me, down 3 - 0 in a must win game, you hit a solo shot then proceed with that jacket nonsense. how about focus on getting the win? lol
its like voit crushing water bottles being down 4 in the 9th vs the jays.
I can’t tell you how much I hate that jacket

Looking at the Jays in the clubhouse...goofing and horsing around...

Yes, it's a fun atmosphere. Yes, being loose is important, but one of the reasons why the Raptors won was because they put an end to the chucklehead culture dominating their clubhouse. Yes, Leonard was a huge part of why they won, but apparently Lowry and Derozan were such good friends they often acted pretty silly and their behaviour influenced the rest of the clubhouse (according to the radio broadcast I heard after the Leonard trade). Breaking up that couple changed the feeling back to focusing on basketball and is apparently a large part of why Lowry was able to kick it up a gear (again, based on radio broadcasts).

If you look at the 2015 Jays, you'll see it was mostly veteran players, and Bautista was well known for nagging anyone he felt was dragging their ass. I'm not suggesting the Jays need to trade Bichette to make everyone settle down, but they do need to get some people in there who can do a better job settling the kids down. Certainly not someone like grandfatherly Montoya who is all smiles and pats on the back.

I'd be happy to see Montreal get an MLB team again. And while I loved the Expos and I loved their name and logo, I do not want to see any team based in Montreal call the Expos unless it is the Washington Nationals returning to their first home. Reusing old team names just bugs me.
  • It makes fans look delusional -- like they're pretending the original team never left.
  • It makes sports fan in general look stupid -- like they'll only know it's a Montreal baseball team if they're called the Expos.
  • It seems lazy. Come up with something new and different.
  • It feels like a couple had a child, then the child moved away and changed their name, so the couple gives has another child via birth adoption and gives the new child the first child's name. Just seems creepy to me.
  • It leads to cringey inaccurate statements like "The Jets returned to Winnipeg."
  • If feels like a new team trying to cash in a legacy that isn't theirs.

Personally, i think you are overthinking things. Jets fans dont care that its not the Yotes.

The Jay's for whatever reason put a lot of effort to get Montreal a team back lose the stranglehold on the country they have had since they left only to see Montreal likely get gifted a top 3 organization in baseball. As a fan it would be awesome to have a true local rival but never understood what was in it for Roger's.

If MLB does return to Montreal, it will be interesting to see what happens with regional TV rights in regards to Toronto and Montreal. It could be something like Montreal getting everything east of the Ontario-Quebec border while Toronto gets everything west of that. In which case, there would be some kind of national weekly TV package that would alternate between the two.

It's also possible that the two teams could agree to share the whole country but I'm not sure I see that happening.

But that's something to worry about once there's a team in Montreal.

I was an expos fan growing up. Then switched to the jays. Loved it when mtl was in the national league so it didnt really interfere with toronto all that much. Playing in the american league with the jays will be interesting

But I'm not crazy about the whole "split-city" thing.

Wouldn't it make most sense for Bell to outbid Rogers for TV rights so they each have 162 games per year to show guaranteed?

Sorry, I should have written "TV territories" not "TV rights". The TV territories are determined by the teams and the league. I did not mean to imply anything about who would hold the TV rights for each team.

I said this years ago and it wasn’t received well by most. I agree with you, Rogers invested money, time and energy to have their Jays pave the way to lose millions of dollars and potentially millions of fans to the return of baseball in Montreal. And it could be extremely detrimental if the Rays are the new Expos, as the Rays/Expos is a better product than the Jays, especially if they have a fan base and more money.

If Rogers is so concerned about the negative impact a return of baseball in Montreal would have on the Blue Jays...well, I'm for it if it means forcing Rogers to pump more money and resources into the team.

Would you guys rather the Yankees just complete the sweep? Or Boston winning tomorrow? Assuming Jays win tomorrow. 1 game back of Boston or 1 game back of the Yankees.
