Yes Ian Clark is an idiot. :laugh:He designs the goalies schedules for when they play.,

I don’t think it’s super serious, probably a tweak. If there ever was a time for it to happen it’s now. Might cost him a Vezina but I’d rather see a deep run in the playoffs.,

Wasn't it reported that he looked off in the practice before the Jets game. Just figured they would have been more cautious and not risk it getting more aggravated in a game when they are coming up to a lot of days in between games.

should limit his starts for next year. 60/25 whoever the backup is next year. too risky but luckily they have breaks in between games 2-3 days

Vezina was more than likely not in the cards anyways - barring a huge collapse I think it's Hellybuck's to lose (and holy crap that USA goalie pipeline is fully operational. Canada can no longer compete on those grounds).

So I'm relatively content that the injury happened now, and hope he gets a ton of rest, with a few games to shake off any rust before the playoffs. Should force a tightening of our defensive awareness as well. Just hoping we don't lose ground now because first in the West is actually a pretty important position this year, one would think.

I honestly hadn’t heard. I think they need to manage him a bit better moving forward. That 54 /28 starts split is probably a sweet spot moving forward. Some guys aren’t wired to play 65- 68 games. Hell most aren’t these days. Brodeur, Roy, Luongo and Hasek are long gone.

Have to be more cautious in the West. Buffalo is fairly central to get to the other NY teams, plus TO and Det. Brodeur, even more central to get to PHI and Bos in addition to the NY teams.
Harder for a goalie to play as many out west. Roy was typically 62/63 appearances in the regular season in Colorado. He ranged from 61-65 over his time in Col.

Demko should max out at 60, but a sweet spot is 57-25 or so.

Either it is 60/22 or 57/25.

In the west, even the great Roy, ranged from 61-65 while with the Avs and typically 62/63. Today's NHL, probably should not go over 60 for a Western goalie. East, especially in the Metro, you can push it with the easier travel.

So, it wasn't a groin.

See what the coaches say about whether it was bothering him before the Win start.
It'd have been a real controversy to start a goalie with a groin injury imo. Not worth the risk when you ultimately don't need the points and could give them rest.

Knee could be a lot of things, so hopefully it's on the milder end of that spectrum.

Not good news. I’m not buyin it anymore.

The Canucks job is to not disclose stuff like this as we know playoffs is coming up.

Gosh damit! Not good not good!

Hopefully it's just a few games. On the plus side this forces the team to get him some rest as well.

This should be a big red flag.

Why can't folks read between the lines.

"We have no idea what is wrong BUT it isn't anything about previous injuries"

Doesn't that statement scream information to the public. On so many levels!

Haven't got a clue but not .... a list of possibilities. How stupid are fans to drink this koolaid.

How can anyone possibly say they don't know what's wrong but at the same time give a list of things it isn't?

Especially from a person that gets inside info. That sells an opinion to fans.

Hip! hip tweeked IMO

I figured at first he just had the flu, stomach issues as the flu bug is making it's rounds in the hockey world.

So I am right again.
This play. He kneels after the save and reaches for his hamstring with his glove hand.

That isn't his groin he's reaching for.
Welp, guess it is knee:

It ain't his knee either if that move has anything to do with the injury.

I'll tell you what it could be,

He hears or feels a "pop" and get a pinching paid near his ass.

His hip, it will need cleaning up now.

Isn't it weird, he reaches for his ass and every story is about a knee, which he doesn't reach for, a groin which if ANY BODY has pilled or tore a groin will know you don't reach behind your ass.

It could have been a hamstring, where you DO reach for your ass. And attached ligament(s).

FYI this was posted over 20 minutes before all the new chat, first by quite a bit.

If he would have stayed in the game and shut out Hellebuyck 5-0 in a Saturday night marquee HNIC matchup it probably would have swung a few votes.

As it is now, yeah. Vezina is gone.

They played him too much to this point. If this is *actually* a fairly minor injury, it really is a benefit the club will be forced to give Demko some time off.

I guess some chit chat about how ready are the goaltenders is pertinent now.
Who should be called up to back up DeSmith? Or with all the games at home have a rotation.
Who would be closest to stepping up full time? Silovs or the new kid Topoilo? The team is limited in callups now but I don't think goalies count.

There's never a 'good time' for Demko to go down with an injury......but looking at the rest of the schedule this is far from the worst time.

Canucks have a cushion in the standings and eight more home games coming up. They'll just have to lock it down and play a lot tighter in front of their goalie, knowing that at times they're not going to get the 10-bell saves that Demko was giving them.

Too bad this injury didn't happen a week ago though. The Canucks could have pulled 'a Vegas' and shut down Demko until the playoffs.....then gone out and used his $5m salary on another player.

If Canada stopped importing goalies from international leagues to star in Canadian junior, there might be better development opportunities for Canadian net minders. But that wouldn't be nice would it?
