Montreal will likely be making multiple changes trying to trade players with larger contracts multiple seasons remaining on those deals . Montreal can only retain salary on three players at 15 % of the cap Drouin is unlikely to be one of the players that ownership/management want to retain salary on instead they will likely use the buyout option.

Why not just keep him and let the contract expire then? Who are we going to use that cap on? He can be filler in the meantime. I don't think we will be trading for long-term cap dumps. We don't need to.

Current management will likely to move on from Drouin unfortunately he hasn't produced to the level of expectations . Current management were brought in to change improve the team not keep players who aren't earning their salary to expectations.

They can move on when it makes sense. He will be off the books next year.

caufield will be fine . he's in his sophomore slump season . his initial success in the playoffs may have led to a bit of overconfidence. he'll be producing much better to get to better paydays . i see him comfortably as a #2 rw for years with suzuki as his center . nailing shane wright for our future 1c is what's needed
The weird thig is i think Drouin and Wright would complement each other.

Montreal if making the trades expected they can retain salary on 3 players at 15 % of the cap .

Drouin isn't likely to be one of the players Montreal retain salary on if a team is interested in trading for him .
Montreal using the buyout option for Drouin the cap hit instead of 5,500,000 next season 22/23 would be 1,833,334 gaining 3,666,666 in cap space In 23/24 the cap hit would be 1,833,334 lost in cap space .
Unless a team is willing to trade for Drouin without Montreal retaining salary before the buyout period ends for next season .
Montreal will likely buyout Drouin.

Even if the Habs don't trade drouin why in the F*** would they buy him out. Odds are they suck next year too.

I have a feeling Lehkonen will be a Leaf.
My gut feeling is the Leafs are still narrowly in on Miller but have Lehk right there next on the list.

Lehkonen is a good top 9 winger . He will be in demand if the habs want to trade him.

i don’t understand the hate on Kulak. He is a fine 5th-6 defender and can add depth to a contender

Drouin, it’s another story. He has to be sheltered to produce. Can’t defend, can’t shoot, isn’t physical. Add another year at 5,5m$. I can’t see an high demand for him.

1. Habs would likely retain so he comes at 2.75 for this year and next.
2. 20 pts in 32 games on a tire fire team seems pretty good to me.
3. He is outperforming most of the guys on The Oilers and I can easily argue he would have way better numbers playing with McDrai.

Seriously what is it with you guys? He is outperforming the Oilers third and 4th liners? WOW

no need to buyout drouin . he will be in a contract year next year so he'll produce like never before . load him up with offensive starts and powerplay time and get what we can for him at next year's deadline with max retention

All this hate for Drouin goddamn, he's actually underrated at this point. Not that he's going to have a ton of value with his cap hit but it feels like each year in Montreal Drouin's been getting better. Streaky and prone to dumb plays but he's actually a really good offensive player for the most part and not nearly as bad defensively as reading this thread might have you believe.

Why all the BS from you?
He'd be your top LW point wise and doing it without the aid of McDavid or Drai.

What Avs prospect do you think is fair value straight across for Lehkonen?
I'm not familiar enough with your prospects to answer this question, but it would have to be someone the Habs are pretty confident is going to be a solid NHL player. Preferably a C or a RD, but that's not a deal breaker.
