It'd be funny if both federations just told him to kick rocks. Dude is 27 and not a high end player. World Championships are it. He's good enough to probably have opportunities to play in multiple tournaments if his game doesn't fall off but probably nothing beyond that. Pick a team and move on.

I'm trying to understand the commonality/joke element of it and coming up short, other than being a random collection of mostly former American players, is the joke just that USA is going to have a crappy roster plus Alex Tuch?

Two fold:
1. US is often scraping the bottom of the barrel to build their WC roster, although it has gotten better in recent years.
2. Certain posters are often boisterously advocating that when USAH isn't successful in a tournament, it's because they didn't take Ryan Lasch or other players whose careers have been spent in the European leagues.

If anything, the Olympics should indicate that USA is better off going with 20-22 college kids than also-ran Euro Pros. People may use the Upset Loss to Slovakia as evidence against that, but they played really well in the group stages.

The Tkachuk boys have their contract situations secured (Brady signed for 5 more years, Matthew signed for 7 more years)... Florida may not be in the Playoffs very long.. seems like a decent time to try and make a push to get him to suit up together.
