Guy who gives player a F load of money for his primary team selects him as a top 3 choice for international squad.

I’m shocked

Call me crazy but I really think Zegras might be on the team. He is doing things thus far that is mind blowing. Sucks that he is on the Ducks and has no help. He's gonna have the team on his back this season.

Should we be looking at Zegras as a dark horse to make the team of he has a good start? Looking at some of the projections we might need a bit more skill on the roster. I know he's young but could you find a role for him as a pp specialist/4th liner type?

Yes, especially if Eichel is unable to play.

White passing and White heritage are two different things. I'm sure he can live his life for the most part as a 'regular white person' would but that doesn't change his ethnicity.

I will be very curious to know how the cultural markers of a white heritage are defined in North America and how do they differ from others?

Auston Matthews was born to a European father and a Hispanic mother who was partially of European descent. He is ethnically very predominantly European. And culturally, nothing separates him from Patrick Kane or Seth Jones.

Seth Jones, selected first defender because his father, Popeye has black skin? If it really is and I think it is, it shows that North America is obsessed with race.

It reminds me of the way rugby players are selected and prioritized in South Africa.

It takes a big difference in level in favor of a player of European origin to be selected to the detriment of a player of African origin.

Sportingly, Jones is selectable. He is in my top 10 of the best American defenders. But John Carlson is clearly the best and most legitimate American defender to feature in the top three.

However, I know that he will be selected and that the presence of Seth Jones will not weaken the USA team. But in terms of sporting meritocracy, no.

Fortunately they haven’t gone THAT far yet, they have quota systems for Bokke that designate that the government wants a certain amount of X ethnicity in the team;

but I think Jones being selected at all let alone top 3 has nothing to do with his ethnicity and more so the fact that a GM who just ludicrously overpaid him also happens to be in charge of the national team; personally I didn’t have him on my team usa

I didn't have Jones as one of the first three either but this is a far cry from 2016 where Abdelkader was among the first 16 named to that World Cup team.
I'd say it's a similar level of stupid decision. Yes Jones is a better player than Abdelkader, but being named in the first 3 is significantly more important than first 16

Yes, especially if Eichel is unable to play.
If Eichel gets ADR soon, the time line for playing at the Olympics will be close. Very close.

Then it will be up to USA Hockey to decide if they want a rusty Eichel - their decision will be interesting.

I'll just have to start posting about Marner in the U.S. thread and Eichel in the Canadian thread. ;)

Stopping both would probably be a good idea at this point. My last word on Eichel: Whether he is on the team or not is not going to be the difference between gold and not.
