It would be fitting of Team USA at this tournament that a guy like Thompson will only show up when he sucks and not when he's finally good
Bass fishing tournament in mid June.....Where's Colin White?
IIHF needs to make changes to these tournaments. Players must have strong financial motive to play and win. Tournaments are making lot of money, prices are sky high and most games will be sold out. I can't understand why players don't get good chunk of that revenue. This needs to change.
Cheapest ticket for Finland - Great Britain game is 175€ (185$). Non Finland games are also quite expensive (starting from 35€+).
These are professionals. It's their job to play hockey. No one does their job for free. If nothing changes, there won't be tournaments with all the best players available. We need change. If you need money to play for your country you shouldn't play for your country.
You find plenty of those players, maybe not in the US but in other countries. These are professionals. It's their job to play hockey. No one does their job for free. If nothing changes, there won't be tournaments with all the best players available. We need change.
I can't figure out one single player who has came to WHC every time they had possibility. Not one.

Attitudes like these are what enables this slave labour. Of the profit, players should be making at least half. More players would be coming to play if they earned hundreds of thousands doing so. Players are what enable the event, why should they work for free? Why do hockey federation employees who essentially just sit around making up more and more ridiculous ticket prices pocket the profit instead of the players who actually deliver the product people come to watch? If you need money to play for your country you shouldn't play for your country.
No, you don't. Russia is the only exception, and surprisingly they have huge bonuses for joining & winning (offered by the Russian federation). You find plenty of those players, maybe not in the US but in other countries.
I can name at least a dozen Swiss players who followed every call if they were healthy. No, you don't. Russia is the only exception, and surprisingly they have huge bonuses for joining & winning (offered by the Russian federation).
Its not true that the players get Nothing, all players will get money/Bonus for what place they will end on. They invite the all family like holiday kind of a trip for free. iihf is using most of the money to support youth hockey all over the world, sure the ticket price will be high for the home teamAgreed. Makes no sense.

If we have this "work for free" attitude, then why aren't the games free entry? Why do they sell TV rights instead of streaming for free? Why do suits get to make money but players don't?
Don't worry, Coach David Quinn to the rescue.
Jeff Blashill as well!
If Nedeljkovic is still going then he'll clearly be the starter over Gillies.
He is hurt. It's too bad about Norris as he would have played if he had a contract.Remember I did say Colin White last week lol!!!
Disappointing since Brady has turned this team down now at least 3 years in a row I believe? Not a good look for a Tkachuk who is on the cusp of any World Cup teams...
So jon gillies will be goalie
Past 3 years he declined...I am sure he is banged up, he plays a rough game. But at some point you have to say yes to the call especially when you were a USNDP member for 2 years prior...He is hurt. It's too bad about Norris as he would have played if he had a contract.
