Listing a couple of the worst defenseman contracts in the game and saying "See, Girardi is better than them" just isn't going to cut it to for me.

I don't know what this is supposed to mean. My point was that people who think Girardi will take a small salary are most likely out to lunch given what other, lesser players got on the open market. Well, I thought that was the case until this happened:

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 31s
Seidenberg extension in Boston. 4 years, $16 million. No-trade clause included. #TSN

That's a steal for Boston. Girardi taking a 5 year, $25M contract would be ideal, IMO, and Seidenberg is a good comparable.

I like Girardi, I hope he stays a Ranger -- but at the right price. Some team will swoop in, ignore the benefits Girardi has had playing with Staal and McDonagh, and pay him like an elite defenseman, which he is not.

I don't disagree. I feel the same way.

Seidenberg was the best comparable to Girardi of the potential UFA defenseman list posted in this thread a couple days ago. Seidenberg though is 32 years old--3 years older than Girardi. And that deal is a really good one for the Bruins.

Girardi--5 years--$25 mil would be a good deal for us.

style of play (mean and physical or too passive)

is it me or do the Rangers play a much better team game when they are playing physical and playing with grit???? i know this Rangers roster is not as physical as in the past but why didnt Sather and rest of Rangers management fix this issure in the offseason??

imagine if Rangers make the playoffs again and have to face the Bruins or Penguins...

Most teams are more engaged when they play physical. However, that doesn't mean they are going to score more goals than their opponent playing that way.

Anyway, I think the whole tough v. run-and-gun debate misses the mark. It probably takes a bit of both to succeed in today's game. That said, what you really want is for your most talented players to have the highest compete levels on the team.

Boom... outside of Cally, this just isn't the case. Nash needs to multiply his compete level by 10. Same for Richards, although he didn't look too bad in game #1. I actually thought he played well.

There is definitely a lack of engagement and passion in the team at this moment.. At the wolfpack game yesterday, I saw just about every player (in particular Kreider, Haley, Johnson) go up to the boards at least 2-3 times and rock the player moving the puck (this included several hits all night where the player was taken off his feet and into the boards. SO much fun to watch).

Our team doesn't have that right now... Definitely a concern.

I will say this, the AHL games had way less penalties. I feel like every hit we lay we're at risk x10 for an upcoming PK... kinda sucks

its about having the right mentality and passion this team does not have that at all.. if they had some heart in their game and took some pride then this would not be a concern.... Rangers need more emotional players on this team and should get rid of some of the ones with their passive personality... i wish this team had a Andrew Ladd type player on this team...another Ryan Callahan type would be useful...

You're basing this off one regular season game?

It does make sense. Fast is wasted playing with Boyle and Pyatt. His speed is negated. His playmaking is mostly wasted. I think Fast is going to be good when he arrives for real and he deserves a shot, but he wasn't going to be properly utilized right now. Not that I think Asham is going to add anything, but perhaps that line will get minutes more in line with what you'd expect of a fourth line and we'll see more than 15 minutes for guys like Nash.

I like Asham. I think he's underrated. He's not a terrible player and brings a ton of grit and toughness to the lineup.

Fast and Miller out, Cally and Asham in. Quite a different dynamic.

Asham-Moore-Dorsett is a nasty 4th line.

Still not pleased with Pyatt.....but he's clearly going to be an AV guy.

I agree with this, and it's disappointing. I mean, I don't love Asham, but I have no problem with him. I think he has flashes where he looks good. But, whatever AV liked so much about Pyatt in Vancouver, he has regressed since (and he was really nothing special back then). Asham-Moore-Dorsett is a plenty good fourth line, but I would really prefer for Moore (who I think has more upside) to get third line minutes and Boyle to be the one centering the fourth line. Moore, in my opinion, won't kill all the offensive momentum whenever he gets the puck and has a better chance of meshing with more people. Boyle should play fourth line and PK. That's him. He's perfect there. He's a GOOD fourth line center and PK guy. Anything more is too much Boyle, IMO. Plus, playing Boyle on the third line with Pyatt is SO slow. At least Moore and Pyatt has a modicum of speed. Ideally, we'd see Pyatt sit and Fast play with Moore and Callahan/Pouliot/Richards on the third but, as you say, Pyatt is gonna be AV's boy.

I hope they are going to demote the kid then. Fast doesn't need to be the extra forward who is swapped out for physical players. Kid needs to be playing every night. :help:

I agree with this too. I'm sure he will be sent down though. Just maybe not until Hags is back. Not the end of the world though, but understandable why we might want to keep an option depending on the needs of the matchup, until we're fully healthy. Once we are, I'm sure the team will want him playing every night in Hartford as well.

I wasn't pleased with the AV decision mainly based on the fact that he has "guys" like Torts had "guys."

Pyatt, outside of the first ten games of last year, really hasn't done anything to warrant anything more than 4th line duty (neither has Boyle for that matter, even more so actually).

I still think AV doesn't know the team to well, so hopefully he'll get a grasp of it rather quickly and put both Boyle and Pyatt in their proper places (4th line or press box duty).

I think once we have both guys back we should go with something like:

Richards-Stepan-Nash
Zucc-Brass-Cally
Hags-Moore-Pouliot
Asham-Boyle-Dorsett

I don't see a need for Pyatt to even be in the lineup unless he surprises. I'd rather have the extra grit in Asham and Dorsett in there. If they were strictly goons i would never advocate for that, but i'm of the belief that both can bring just as much offense to the lineup as Pyatt.

If Kreider or Miller really perform in the A, give them a cup of tea either for injuries or in place of Asham.

Totally agree. Right down to bringing up Kreider/Miller if they look ready and bumping Asham. I'd shift Moore down and give them third line minutes if they were brought up.

Hey rest of NHL its ok for you to elbow/cheap shot our superstar...no really its ok we don't mind...as a matter of fact we wont even do anything about it...

AA and DD are nice second and third tier guys to have for toughness but not a nuclear war head like a Colton Orr...now you roll four line skill guys will say...how would Orr have deterred that cheap shot to Nash?? well he couldn't have stopped that from happening but before the night was over Stuart would have known a Colton type was on the bench...Colton would have absolutely mugged him and made him pay..

Wait until Hank gets run because we have no nasty SOB waiting in the wings..

And at the end of the day, Nash is still hurt and we possibly lose more games because we play a Colton Orr instead of a better hockey player.

Or you could get players who can play the game and are willing to stick up for their teammates. Not valued within this organization. Sickening.
