Yes, it would make sense that new players will join for next weekend's games. Don't forget that Thursday's game is in Tampere and that Hischier was reported to join the team in Stockholm. Also, it wouldn't make sense to travel to a 3 game tournament with only 22 players. The way the news was written also suggests this is the case.

It would also be nice to know which Zug and ZSC players will join. Communication could have been way better here.

I guess Zug players are still a) asleep or b) drunk. 😉

Georges Müller is Pius Suters agent. He says that you can assume that Suter will join the team sooner or later.

Likely both 😁

I wonder what is Fischer's plan for the defense. From the current Roster I can't see Le Coultre and Glauser make it, Egli did well but there's already Moser and Loeffel for the two PP units, and Siegenthaler will take a spot. From Zug and ZSC I only see Weber, Marti and maybe Geering as possibilities. I can't see Kreis or Schlumpf be called.

I'm still not convinced he'll call Weber. Geering was overlooked a few times, so why should he get a call this time? Although he played very well in the playoffs. Marti will get a call I'm pretty sure.

From Zug the only guys I see as future NT-players on D are Gross and Stadler. I think Stadler is better than Glauser.

Gross and Stadler would have gotten a chance if Zug had been out earlier, but I can't see either of them join. You're right about Geering, but Fischer regularly picks players out of nowhere. With the playoffs he had I wouldn't be surprised to see him.

Regarding Marti, he's usually a depth defenseman called to bring a physical element, but I think the presence of Siegenthaler hurts his chances. Weber is still the better overall player.

No question that Weber deserves to be on this roster but so does Diaz. Similar situation IMHO, Weber is already 33, too.

I'd love to see Geering

I will start to speculate about lines when i know who's finally joining. But if everyones there Center-depth is a luxury-problem with Hischier, Suter, Malgin, Corvi, Thürkauf, Bertschy.

Do you guys know what kind of line up is Switzerland icing against Finland today? How many NHL players and so on?

Only NHLers are Dmen Kukan and Moser.
Here's the squad for tonight:

Ty. Here's Finland's Roster for tonight against the Swiss. The 4 NHLers currently in the team will not play today (Armia, Säteri, Jokiharju, Lammikko):

45 Jussi Olkinuora

1:
82 Harri Pesonen – 65 Sakari Manninen – 70 Teemu Hartikainen
4 Mikko Lehtonen – 7 Oliwer Kaski

2:
21 Jere Innala – 51 Valtteri Filppula (C) – 61 Markus Nurmi
81 Kalle Maalahti – 42 Sami Vatanen (A)

3:
25 Toni Rajala – 76 Jere Sallinen – 15 Miro Aaltonen
50 Mikael Seppälä – 38 Juuso Hietanen

4:
80 Saku Mäenalanen – 24 Hannes Björninen – 12 Marko Anttila (A)
55 Atte Ohtamaa – 2 Ville Pokka

13th forward:
23 Markus Nenonen

One guy we might also add at some point is Sven Bärtschi. They lost the first game in the AHL playoffs so he might be available relatively soon. Not sure if he is in Fischer's plans since they have not really had the chance to work together yet and Bärtschi would rather be a wild card.

Tonight's lineup. Surprising to see Ambühl at center, but I guess Fischer wanted to try Scherwey-Bertschy-Thürkauf as it's a potential 4th line at the WC.

Aeschlimann (Berra)

Moser - Fora
Kukan - Glauser
Le Coultre - Loeffel
Frick - Egli

Scherwey - Thürkauf - Bertschy
Miranda - Heim - Eggenberger
Mottet - Corvi - Künzle
Rod - Ambühl - Riat

This is a good opportunity for the Swiss players to get some feel for the arena if they get to the medal games in the WHC. I mean no other teams in the WHC tournament has that priviledge than Finland and Switzerland before the tournament starts. It could be this very same match up in a semifinal, FIN & SUI. Actually it's a bit historic as well. Switzerland is the first national team to play in this arena. It's Finland's first game in the new arena as well.

Jann Billeter said on MySports that there will be less players from Zug/Zürich than expected. Whatever that means.

Very strong period. And you can see how big the impact is when you have guys like Kukan and Moser on the blueline.

No offense, but how in hell can you already think about semifinal? :D

I said could be. It's quite likely that some of these top teams make it to semifinals.

Watching this FIN-SUI game I probably shouldn't though lol. Finland is lucky that it's 2-3 only, thanks to one of our line being effective offensively. Switzerland has been better overall this game.

Updates for the next two games in Sweden:

In for Sweden games:
Nico Hischier
Denis Malgin
Christian Marti
Timo Meier
Jonas Siegenthaler
Pius Suter

Out:

Simon Le Coultre
Killian Mottet

After Sweden the following players will also join:
Leonardo Genoni
Dario Simion
Fabrice Herzog

Not at the WC will be:
Sven Andrighetto (hip injury)
Denis Hollenstein (knee injury)
Yannick Weber (foot injury)
Gregory Hofmann (coaches decision)

Updated roster for Sweden games below.

I am biased but really disappointed for Mottet, he always plays his heart out and would have definatley taken him over guys like Miranda, Künzle or Eggenberger, but the decision is not going to change the outcome of our tournament.
It's a shame the 3 Zurich guys are injury, could really have used them. Hofmann had a weird year, really disappointing start in the NHL, great when he came back, bad Olympics, ok-ish Playoffs but nothing great. The break could really do wonders to him.

Goalies (2): Sandro Aeschlimann (HC Davos), Reto Berra (Fribourg-Gottéron)

Defenders (9): Dominik Egli (HC Davos), Michael Fora (HC Ambri-Piotta), Lukas Frick (Lausanne HC), Andrea Glauser (Lausanne HC), Dean Kukan (Columbus Blue Jackets), Christian Marti (ZSC Lions), Janis Moser (Arizona Coyotes), Romain Loeffel (HC Lugano), Jonas Siegenthaler (New Jersey Devils)

Forwards (15): Andres Ambühl (HC Davos), Christoph Bertschy (Lausanne HC), Enzo Corvi (HC Davos), Nando Eggenberger (SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers), André Heim (HC Ambri-Piotta), Nico Hischier (New Jersey Devils), Mike Künzle (EHC Biel-Bienne), Denis Malgin (ZSC Lions), Timo Meier (San Jose Sharks), Marco Miranda (Genève-Servette HC), Damien Riat (Lausanne HC), Noah Rod (Genève-Servette HC), Tristan Scherwey (SC Bern), Pius Suter (Detroit Red Wings), Calvin Thürkauf (HC Lugano)

So I guess there will be one cut on D and 3 cuts on O on sunday.

D looks solid with 3 NHL-backs and Josi 0-2 down. The Top-6 is solid and with Moser and Loeffel also two good PP-backs.

I guess those 3 you name who you would have chosen after Mottet are prrobably those in risk of getting cut. Thürkauf played a great in all games (beside that ugly pass yesterday). Riat and Rod already have WC experience and are capable of filling in different roles. So my guess would be those three. But Fischer is always surprises.

So Geering got no consideration again as I thought.

By the way, Le Coultre was really stepping up in each game. He could be a candidate for next year if he continues to progress.

That seems likely yes (the cuts), maybe Heim could also be a candidate. I agree Thürkauf should go to the WC, the way he played consistently in the preparation phase should really be rewarded, that's why these guys come in and play their heart out.

On D I assume one of Egli, Frick or Glauser will have to go.

I thought there would be no space for Mottet because of Andrighetto and Hofmann joining, but without them I'd have kept him for at least the games against Sweden and Czech. On the other hand, even though he had a good game yesterday, over the whole training camp he was outplayed by Miranda and Eggenberger. There's also the case of Kurashev, who was tested positive for covid but who could still join.

That means one or two forwards will still need to be cut. Heim, Künzle and Eggenberger are the most likely names I guess. And two others won't be registered to leave space for Fiala and Niederreiter.

The lack of depth on defense really shows, I can't believe Glauser is still here so close to the tournament (him and Kukan looked pretty bad on Finland's first goal yesterday). Fora hasn't been great either (that play with 20 seconds left when he offered a clear path to the net to his opponent was terrible) but I guess he will make it. And one player won't be registered to leave space for Josi, and I guess that would be Egli. Even though I like him better than Fora, he makes more sense style wise.
