Hehe, yeah, I really hope so. Reto Müller, who does the NLA-Playoffs, is hopefully the replacement for Jann Billeter. But that's tough to watch, not because of the game.

Timo Meier will be playing in the WC, according to him. Huge addition to your squad, Meier had an insanely good year.

That's awesome to hear, they showed some good chemistry last time.
Hischier, Meier, Kurashev, Suter, Hofmann and Malgin makes an NHL-level top 6.
To choose from Andrighetto, Corvi, Bertschy, Herzog, Simion, Ambühl, Mottet, Scherwey for your bottom-6 is pure luxury, surely the best forward group we ever had!
Not to mention if Fiala or Nino join the team later on...

yeah, I just thought that too. We ideally add 9 forwards with Hischier, Meier, Kurashev, Suter, Malgin, Andrighetto, Hofmann, Herzog and Simion. Then there is also Zehnder who has great playoffs.

If you consider Ambühl, Corvi and Bertschy as set there is not much room left. Thürkauf had a great game today, Rod is very gritty which is quite useful. Scherwey is Scherwey (but also not at the level he was last year I think).
I don't think Mottet has a shot by the way. He wasn't good today.

Defense is more scary and we'd really need Josi to have a shot at a medal.

Aeschlimann was again very good and I wouldn't have a problem to have him as #2 if Genoni decides to opt out.

No concern about the forward group at all, I didn't even feel disappointed with the Vermin, Haas and Moser announcements. But the defense worries me quite a bit. From the current group, you have Frick, Alatalo and Loeffel I'd be comfortable to have at the WC. Egli showed some good thing but not sure he's ready, Glauser has just been bad, Delémont shows great things but it's too early, Le Coultre surprised me today but was pretty bad against Germany and it's also too early, and Fora, who I used to be a big fan of back when he made his debuts, has been struggling to regain his 2018 level. From Zug and ZSC there's just Weber, Marti, who I am not a fan of but he did well at the Olympics, and Geering who is having good playoffs but is at best a depth player. We need all the help from the NHL we can get.

Agree about Mottet, I thought he should have showed more today to get a spot. He's not going to be taken over Scherwey, Thürkauf or Ambühl so he needs to prove he's better than another offensive player and he hasn't done so.

Thürkauf was really good today,. What I especially like in him (and also liked it back at WJC) is his leadership. He's a power forward, with leadership, good physical play, good skating and also a solid skill level (though he's not elite there what's probably missing for being an NHL-player). He should be at the WC.

I wonder what Karrer has. It's now the third game he misses.
I agree on your defence-judging. Glauser is no WC-level, Délemont is surprisingly good and that pass on Corvi was exceptional, but it's too early. I wouldn't be so hard on Fora, but I agree that he isn't the 2018-Fora. I can see an upside in Le Coultre but it's also too early.

With the Zug and ZSC players and those already out of the NHL playoffs we're looking at a defense that could look like Kukan, Moser, Alatalo, Weber, Frick, Fora, Loeffel, Marti. That lacks top quality players compared to the forwards, adding Diaz, Müller and Siegenthaler would significantly improve that group.

Josi would definitely turn the ship around on defense. Pair him with a stay at home defender like Siegenthaler and add Moser, Kukan, Weber and Alatalo for a mobile top 6. I still think Diaz would help the team even in a limited role, while Mueller is a liability and I wouldn't want him near that group.

Thinking about it, 4 NHL regulars would be quite a solid core, nothing to be ashamed of. Especially if one of them is the worlds best.

Yes thats true but still, a tournament without Russia is still easier to win than one where she participates.
Well, I'd say this makes it easier for everyone involved, not just Switzerland.

This being said, I definitely don't think seeing the Swiss as a podium team is a pipe dream. Also, it's not like one ever won anything big without daring to dream big.

Siegenthaler confirms in his exit-interview with the media that he should be ready to play at the WC.

Edit: Nico Hischier also confirms his participation and will directly head to Sweden for next weeks preparation games.

Yeah, pretty dumb play by Alatalo that somehow led to the GWG. Not much to take from the two Latvia games. Lack of consistence in the first one with some periods of complete dominance and others under pressure. In the second game Latvia was never able to really threaten but Switzerland didn't create much either. The power play was pretty weak too.

Not sure what to think of individual players. Thürkauf probably made the best impression, but apart from him I didn't find any players particularly impressive. I guess we won't have any update for 2-3 days as I assume Fischer won't call Zug and ZSC players right after game 7.

I guess we'll get more on Tuesday. Bayer yestereday said that they have players from NHL and AHL, which would mean that Berni is a candidate (Geisser&Bärtschi are playing Playoffs).

Thürkauf was the best player overall I guess. On offence no-one was really dissapointing, Jäger with two stupid penalties. But yeah, we won't see many of them at the WC I guess.
On D I thought Le Coultre played way better than in the first 4 games and was better than Glauser. Délémont is also better than expected but not yet enough physical.
Karrer is injured, is not even with the team anymore. So I guess he's out. Which is a pity.

Hischier and Siegenthaler confirmed, but I don't know if Siegenthaler is 100% sure or if they are just hoping he'll be ready in time.

And it will be interesting to see Berni next week with the current state of the defense. I agree about Le Coultre looking better and Delémont showing great stuff, but they are not ready to play at the WC. And I haven't found any of Frick, Fora, Loeffel or Alatalo particularly impressive so far. I guess they did their job, but you would hope to see more from them at this level.

Any news on Pius Suter? I think he is the last of the more prominent NHL players that haven't been confirmed yet...

No surprise with Wüthrich, Karrer, Delémont, Jäger and Hischier being cut, and nice to have Moser and Kukan confirmed, although I'd have kept Delémont over Le Coultre.

But Alatalo dropped over Glauser and Le Coultre is surprising. He didn't play as well as he could have, but still has way more potential than the other two.

Almost all Swiss players in the NHL have agreed to play in the World Cup. A similar situation has developed in the Czech Republic. I think these teams will fight for the medals of the tournament.

thought hischier was confirmed too and meier?
It‘s the roster for the first game, it‘s probably not sure if they can arrive on time.

Alatalo is surprising, maybe his 5+20 yesterday played a role.
Kukan and Moser are good news, add Siegenthaler and that‘s pretty solid.
Sending home Wüthrich means Genoni will also join I guess.
