According to reports out of Vancouver,

Havelid travelled to Boston in November to watch 3 of Willander's games and came away very impressed, which solidified his spot on the team. Havelid raved about Willander's skating and strength.

I wouldnt be surprised if Willander gets used a lot in a matchup vs the other teams best forward line and shutdown role

Well, that's just what Hävelid said during the press meeting. He also said Willander reminds him of Salomonsson.

I didnt see the press meeting, one of our main media ( Dhaliwal) just reported it, perhaps through the press meeting?

Do you have video/translation of meeting?

It was streamed at (Willander starting at 33:18).

Though that doesn't include interviews with media outlets. The only other thing he says really is that he had a really good U18's, and thinks he looks just as good now. Says Tom likes to follow with on the attack, but also really strong 1-on-1, good passing, can also provide physicality.

As a Canucks fan, hoping to see a Pettersson-Willander shut down pair. Might very well be a pair you'd see on the Canucks team some day

Looks like a weaker year for Sweden? Canada is definitely weaker this year as well. I think Lekkerimaki with Ostlund could make up a pretty good line, Willander and ASP on defence could be difference makers as well. Not sure the regular depth for Sweden is there compared to usual though. What do you think?
It's a very strong year...... Ohgren Ostlund Lekkerimaki destroyed the u 18's when Sweden won. They're gonna be the best line in the tournament. Once again a very Detroit centric look. Shocker.

Lol I mentioned one Detroit prospect who is on pace to break records in Sweden this year and its a Detroit centric look? Or do yo not follow prospects enough to know Willander isnt a Detroit prospect?

You realise Ostlund has been out hurt right?

Ohgren didnt really impress me much last year in the tournament despite already being relied on to wear a letter if I remember right. Hasnt got a whole bunch of games in this year either

Lekkarimaki is going to light this tourney up.

But did you notice how you literally talked about one player I didnt talk about in Ohgren? Wow youre so unbiased compared to me because I didnt talk about Ohgren

The fact you didnt know Ohgren plays with Ostlund and Lekkerimaki tells me all i need to know about what you know about this age group. I am sure if Ohgren had a wings jersey on you would be raving about him.

Has Ostlund even got the all clear to play yet or were you even aware that hes been out?

Detroit has just two defensemen, how is it a Detroit centric look?

Have they started practicing or playing exhibition games yet?

Curious to what the lines and pairings look like for the coach.

I think Sweden might be slight favorite, with Americans close behind. I think Canada is weaker.

Pretty sure he doesnt follow prospects enough to know that Wallinder and Willander are different players so he assumed I meant Wallinder. I didnt even bring up the other Detroit dman in Johansson in my post but yeah all I'm doing is posting about wings prospects.... sure

Gunna be pulling for the Swedes in this tourney. When it comes to the WJC I tend to pull for Canucks to do well & save the nationalism for the pro best-on-best tournaments.

Sweden & USA are looking like the 2 big dogs, and I know how long Sweden has waited for their next gold.

Expecting the 1st line to be a force like everyone is, but I'm really excited to see Willander. Seen a handful of BU games this year & he looks like he picked up where he left off from last years U18's, but now he'll basically be against his own age group again & its a chance to shine.

Anyways this tournament is going to be alot of fun to watch, can't wait.
