Here's a tweet that might interest our Swedish friends:

It's from Jokerit's official Twitter channel, and it reads: "The Jokerit players selected to the olympics - so far," and after the names it says: "Sweden and Canada are yet to announce their teams..."

IMO this strongly hints that there will be at least one Swedish (and Canadian) player from Jokerit going to the olympics. The club teams, after all, know already who out of their lineups has been invited.

Here are the players that so far are selected according to Sportbladet:
Goalies:
Magnus Hellberg, Sotji
Lars Johansson, St Petersburg
Adam Reideborn, CSKA

Defencemen:
Oscar Fantenberg, St Petersburg
Christian Folin, Frölunda
Theodor Lennström, Torpedo
Emil Djuse, Rapperswil
Lukas Bengtsson, Minsk
Jonathan Pudas, Skellefteå
Henrik Tömmernes, Geneve

Forwards:
Anton Lander, Zug
Marcus Krüger, Zürich
Daniel Zaar, Torpedo
Pontus Holmberg, Växjö
Linus Johansson, Färjestad
Jacob de la Rose, Färjestad
Gustav Rydahl, Färjestad
Max Friberg, Frölunda
Carl Klingberg, Zug
Lucas Wallmark, CSKA
Dennis Everberg, Rögle
Joakim Nordström, CSKA
Mathias Bromé, Davos

25 players are being selected IIRC, so 2 spots left. The goalies are set, so no Lindbäck there. Norman has been quite meh, so I guess that could make Philip Holm available as he has been quite good this season.

Alex Grant was initially selected to represent Canada in Channel One Cup so wouldn't surprise me if he was selected.

Lmao. team grit, but i like it

garpenlöv even said himself in live stream, that he wants us to be super hard to play against.

"hard to play against"
"collective scoring"

Very exciting stuff..

Well, how is Anton Rödin, Tedenby, Söderberg etc more fun? they are streaky. all players choosen works hard every game and can even put up some points. this tournament is like an eht tournament, and all players choosen have been good in eht. and when was the last time we saw so many gritty players on team sweden? this is not a normal team sweden.

I was more thinking a guy like William Eklund. Maybe this team does well. It's just pretty easy to see them working hard, all the way to a quarterfinals exit or a 4th place.

Out of curiosity, i remember u said our wc team did not have any players who "ingnite" others, that do everything that it takes to win.

do you think we have such players on this olympic team?
You tell me! There's several players on this team that I am not all too familiar with.

Yeah Daniel Brodin, Carl Klingberg, Max Friberg, Dennis Everberg, Jacob de la Rose, Gustav Rydahl, Nordström, Folin, Fantenberg are physical players. Brome, Olofsson, Holmberg, Lander, Kruger, Johansson not as physical as the others but they work their butt off. this is not a typical swedish team

i would be fine with a 4th place.

90% role players on the Swedish team. Guys that usually play fourth line at the World Championship. I can see how this team will be tough to face with their forecheck etc. On the other hand, I cannot see how this team will score goals. Oh, well.

Well, all players choosen have shown they can produce in SHL, NLA, KHL and EHT. Remember we have some skilled d-man and Lasse Johansson in goal. Its enough with 2-3 goals to win.

Well no one from Jokerit selected. Not suprising. Norman is having a bad season it seems. Holm is bad in his own zone and Lindbäck is not better than Lasse, Hellberg, Reidenborn.

Intresting that Zetterberg and Niklas Kronwall are advisors. They have for sure talked with Garpenlöv about choosing a team like this. They know their hockey.

There is one thing that scares me thought. And that is mentality like "ohhh look, so many hardworkers, i dont have to work hard when we have so many others who can do it". No. All players need to play as they always do. Every line should bust their ass off.

Ok time for some lines:

Brome - Lander - Klingberg

Holmberg - Wallmark - F.Olofsson

Nordström - Rydahl - Friberg

De la Rose - Kruger - Brodin

Everberg used in PP, he is not that good 5 vs 5. Johansson only for PK.

Tömmernäs - Folin
Gustafsson - Pudas
Fantenberg - Bengtsson
Djuse - Hultström

Lars Johansson, nr 1 goalie.

Well, it was a weird flex from Jokerit then, but whatever. Someone might ask why tease with the release of the Swedish team (or any team) if your own players aren't going to feature (as it's not like they already didn't know), but this is probably not the thread to ponder about that.

Hmm. A gritty, no-name Swedish team that intends to be a [female dog] to play against and positions itself as the underdog against almost any opposition? You know, that almost sounds like a page out of the book of a certain Finnish coach... well, rather a whole lot of them, really.

Lauri Marjamäki?

Oscar Lindberg is a pretty obvious pick isn’t he?

Not selected. :D

no Tömmernes and Olofsson?

Tömmernäs made it.

Jesper Olofsson, no. I guess he is good enough but he has only played 1 tournament for Sweden. Garpenlöv went with more sure options.

Fredrik Olofsson is on the team thought, not to be confused with Jesper. :thumbu:

The 5 biggest Swedish SHL scorers and the 6 biggest Swedish KHL scorers left off the team. Weird. Lindberg, Lindholm, Strömwall should be on the team.

If Garpenlöv choosed this team to WC or Olympic with NHLers it would be madness. The difference is that in WC and OG with NHLers we have players who are skilled that is not streaky. We dont have that in Europe. Garpenlöv picked players who shown they are good in EHT and always work hard.

Ask yourself if Zaar, Emil Petterson, Anton Rödin, Carl Söderberg, Malte Strömvall is players we need. They will be good 2 games of 5.

Lindberg was not good in WC and not good in EHT this season. I guess thats the reason. Strömvall have 0 points in last 5 EHT games.

Lindholm i agree. Would rather have him than Brodin.

We do need more scoring than we have on this roster right now, undeniably. Lindberg and Strömwall are better scorers than the guys on the roster.

Well players selected have produced in EHT before. When you have Johansson in goal its enough with 2-3 goals to win. Lindberg and Strömvall is not producing when playing for Team Sweden. Tömmernäs, Hultström, Pudas, Bengtsson, Djuse are skilled d-mans.

Omark, thats a guy i want.

It would be a success for sure.

I was just hoping Garpenlöv would take more chances and go with younger players.

Elmer Söderblom would be really interesting for example (yes I'm biased).

Yeah Söderblom and Eklund i would like. And Edvinsson ofc. Maybe Garpenlöv did not want to piss off Rönnberg too much. He is already letting go of Spacek and Friberg to olympics. Possible Tomkins and Elliot aswell.

Lauri Marjamäki?
Marjamäki has been known to use it as a fallback plan in a tight spot, but the poster boy for this is Erkka Westerlund, who's also got the hardware to show for it. Of course, even Erkka didn't shun proven skill when it was available to him, but unfortunately the players of his era weren't exactly laden with it.

Although, even Jalonen's not beneath this - but he's somewhat more fluid overall, and even dares to take a few chances with unproven skill every now and then. I guess that's the difference between "just" medaling and having a couple of golds to your name.
