Landeskog - Barkov - Rantanen
Laine - Bäckström - Nylander
Pettersson - Zibanejad - Lindholm
Granlund - Aho - Forsberg

Would be the best, most balanced combined forward group from Sweden and Finland. Roll four lines equally.

I can see your reasoning but would add at least Hintz there, he's been on full beast mode lately. Pulju would at least be 13rd forward. And if Aho and Mika switched places Teräväinen would be an obvious choise with Aho.

I don't think we will agree on that (with bias prevalent on both sides I guess). Want an extra two way center who is good defensively? I would go for Eriksson Ek and consider Karlsson. As extra wingers, I would prefer Bratt, Raymond, Burakovsky, Arvidsson or Olofsson to Puljujärvi. Especially Bratt, he is almost a PPG player with unreal compete levels and intensity. Teräväinen is a good option, yes, but prefer other more well rounded players who I think offer more in extra forward roles while putting up similar numbers.

Well, the positive thing is that we are both happy with the situation considering our offence. The defense on the other hand is miserable from the Finnish perspective but hey who cares about the defense :sarcasm:

Well, the coaching situation is miserable for us, and at least you definately do not have that problem. And good coaching will obviously prove to be extremely important.

A "Mika Hannula" is going to be on the team. Maybe Carl Klingberg? Oskar Sundqvist?

Why are you comparing Sundqvist to Hannula? Sundqvist is a legit good NHLer which Hannula never was.

But yes, Garpenlöv likes gritty players. Sundqvist, Eriksson Ek, Hörnqvist, Fast, Hagelin is probaly on his mind.

Eriksson Ek is more than a level above the other names you mentioned and should of course be on the team. He is putting up really good offensive numbers while being one of the best defensive centers in the NHL. He is the 1C on the Wild. The others mentioned do not belong in the same category of player.

Of the other ones mentioned, Hörnqvist is the only one I could see being considered. Should not play any significant minutes though (I hope).

Maybe this:

Forsberg - Bäckström - Raymond
Landeskog - Zibanejad - E.Lindholm
Rakell - Pettersson - Nylander
Karlsson - Backlund - Hörnqvist
(Eriksson Ek - Burakovsky)

Hedman - Ekholm
Brodin - Klingberg
Dahlin - Karlsson
OEL - Lindholm

Markström
Ullmark
Johansson

Rakell shouldn’t make them team IMO neither should Backlund don’t want pettersson at center would roll with Bäckström, Zibanejad, Lindholm and Eriksson Ek as the centers switch out Rakell with Bratt and Backlund with Olofsson, Asplund, Dahlén. At the same time I have a problem seing Karlsson being effective as a winger. I could also see:
Forsberg - Bäckström - Nylander
Lindholm - Zibanejad - Pettersson
Landeskog - Karlsson - Bratt
Burakovsky - Eriksson Ek - Hörnqvist

Sounds like Erik Karlsson won't be available for the Olympics. Not liking the quarantine restrictions as they currently stand.

When we are at it, skip Klingberg as well and go with:

Dahlin - Hedman (played RD at some WC long ago)
Lindholm - Brodin
OEL - Larsson
Ekholm - Andersson

I agree with you but with Swe coaches you never know. Garpen probaly wants a whole line with those of kind players. Is Engvall on the long list? He is another name that fits good on a checking-unit. But i personally would not select him

Having watched around 2/3 of Buffalo's games this season I think picking Dahlin would be a big mistake. And just to make things clear I think he's been the Sabres best or second best performing defenseman this season.

Dahlin's greatest asset is his puck moving skills which of course is unmatched on the Sabres. Every game he tilts possession and gives his teammates space that is crucial to their transition game. Hs second greatest asset would be his skills om the PP. Unfortunately he offsets a part of those contributions with defensive gaffes, giveaways and weak defensive plays.

Making those types of mistakes is costly against a team of average NHL players, but making them against super stacked olympic teams could be disastrous. Also, Dahlin is still very inconsistent, he has games where he dominates and games where an early mistake gets into his head and it just derails his game causing mistake after another. He rarely gets 3 or 4 games in a row without having a game with multiple big defensive gaffes.

That isn't such a big problem in a 82 game season or even in a 7 game playoff series; it averages itself out over the course of many games. But the olympics have instant elimination games, it doesn't matter if he was great in the group stage if he directly causes 2 goals in the quarter finals. And lastly, if Hedman and Karlsson joins the team, he won't be on the PP.

Offtopic, but how would you describe Jokiharju's game so far? After the recovery he seems to be putting up steady minutes and creating some offense as well. ''Only'' -2 +/- in Buffalo at the moment.

I can't really say, I haven't been able to watch many recent games. I only watched 3-4 games just when he returned and understandably he looked pretty rusty, lost and was out of position a lot. I suspect he's been better recently.

Last season he was a well rounded defenseman on an awful team, not excelling in anything but without major flaws. A #4-#5 defender on a normal NHL team?

NHL players not going.

Time for Sweden to boycott the Olympics due to it being in China.

Not another goddamn tournament with a clown team. I can't stand it.

Imma wait for official confirmation and then quickly unsubscribe from Discovery+ which I only got for the summer olympics and kept because of the winter olympics. But this is literally the only thing I want to see. But not with Euro players. Best on best or bust.

Jesper Wallstedt already good enough?

Lars Johansson, Magnus Hellberg and Jesper Wallstedt as our goalies in olympics.

Eklund and Edvinsson has to be on the team aswell.
