I honestly don’t expect any really weird(unpopular) roster decisions from Garpenlöv. He’s just not the best game coach. Because he doesn’t have a lot of experience. It would be really good for everyone if Hallam could join the team temporarily during the olympics.

Top wingers looking solid so far. I can definitely see Bratt in there.

Landeskog - 26p in 21 games
Lindholm - 26p in 26 games (but should be a C imo)
Forsberg - 16p in 16 games
Nylander - 26p in 27 games
Bratt - 22p in 24 games
Olofsson - 15p in 17 games
Raymond - 22p in 26 games
Johnsson - 18p in 24 games
Rakell - 12p in 17 games
Arvidsson - 12p in 17 games

Ideally Rönnberg or Peter Andersson. Rönnberg has already had the job though. And did it well.

Honestly though for the senior team I’d rather see that they had an SHL coach hold the position as a sidegig and then still be able to coach an SHL team. Canada and the U.S does it I don’t see why Sweden couldn’t.

Why Peter Andersson ?

Forsberg is a much worse goalkeeper than Lars Johansson, Adam Reidenborn and Magnus Hellberg. Wallstedt is too young.

Pettersson is currently 24th in points and 32nd in points per game among Swedish players. He's played himself off the team by now as far as I'm concerned.

I love how that populist/reactionary/opinion thief Per Bjurman wrote after the first game with Boudreau that he looked "revitalized" because he got a point. After three games under Boudreau he has a secondary assist and three shots on goal. It's probably not about coaching...

Petterssons skills did not vanish. He still has it. Anyone can have a down year. But he is too skilled to left out. Having him as 13/14 th forward is luxury.

William Nylander is on pace for 37 goals and 85 points this season. With Marner out I expect him to score a bit more as well. He has developed into a truly great two way player as well. Definately deserves a bigger role than many people are saying. Also tends to play very well for the national team.

Yikes

It’s not optimal. But I don’t think there is any way he’s being left off the squad. He has more talent than any other swedish forward, and you just have to make that gamble, just sit him if it doesn’t work. There is clearly enough depth to do so.

I didn't mention Burakovsky who now has 20 in 24. He's also coming off two 60+ pace seasons, so we know it's not a fluke. The winger race is getting really interesting.

Which forward crew is the best?

Team Sweden
Filip Forsberg 11 - Mika Zibanejad 5 - William Nylander 13 (goals)
Gabriel Landeskog 9 - Elias Lindholm 11 - Lucas Raymond 10
Victor Olofsson 5 - Elias Pettersson 5 - Jesper Bratt 8
Gustav Nyquist 4 - Mikael Backlund 4 - Viktor Arvidsson 5
90 goals this season

Team Finland
Roope Hintz 11 - Aleksander Barkov 10 - Kaapo Kakko 3
Teuvo Teräväinen 6 - Sebastian Aho 15 - Mikko Rantanen 12
Patrik Laine 3 - Mikael Granlund 5 - Kasperi Kapanen 6
Jesperi Kotkaniemi 6 - Anton Lundell 5 - Jesse Puljujärvi 8
90 goals

As biased as I am i'd take top nine a least:
Barkov
Aho
Rantanen
Hintz
Laine
Granlund
Teräväinen
Puljujärvi
Kapanen

Over top nine:
Forsberg
Zibanejad
Nylander
Landeskog
Lindholm
Pettersson
Raymond
Olofsson
Burakowsky

I do not think that finnish forward group is as good as the Swedish one. Guys like Teräväinen, Hintz, Kapanen, and Puljujärvi would not make our top 9. It’s quite close though. Aho is definately the most in form center.

In fact maybe Forsberg and Zibanejad and with some reservasion Landeskog would make the top nine as a complimentary player for Rantanen IMO. Kapanen is the only one of the bunch who is not a clear first liner, but still regularly producing second line winger.

Not Nylander? He is probaly our best forward

Landeskog - Barkov - Rantanen
Laine - Bäckström - Nylander
Pettersson - Zibanejad - Lindholm
Granlund - Aho - Forsberg

Would be the best, most balanced combined forward group from Sweden and Finland. Roll four lines equally.

From the Sharks board:

This is the closest Karlsson has looked to his prime self since 16-17. Yes, the 6 week stretch in 18-19 was awesome but what he's doing now is far more impressive considering the lack of depth compared to that team (and the more defensive scheme). He's shooting pucks like he used to and getting really good shots off which is mostly why he has 8 goals. I think Burns can take a page out of Karl's book and be more patient and selective with his shots because too often he fires as soon as he gets it even if he has time to skate into a better shooting position.

Another player who is doing good is Klingberg. Has 9 points in 20 games, people forget he is a d. Fans want him to be PPG
