Honka plays like he wants to be Karlsson... his hockey IQ is so f***ing bad. This isn't just a problem in the defensive zone, but in the offensive zone too: constantly losing the puck while he tries to deke through multiple guys, carrying the puck too long or tries to force the plays. He tries to be too flashy but he is very non-effective; no wonder Hitchcock doesn't like him and his point totals in the NHL are not that impressive. It's actually amazing how much smarter and more mature Heiskanen is in comparison.

Marjamäki **** the bed in the olympics and this time it’s results or gtfo. His team got dismantled by Denmark. They can fire him now or after the next two losses, but the writing is on the wall.

As far as IQ is concerned, great players simply never do plays like the ones TT did when the game is on the line with two mins to go. He’s a bonehead with some flair but not so much positive production.

Riiiight. I see there is no point in continuing this conversation.

I knew him when he was younger and he was just as selfish back then. It's amazing how little he has developed in that department. It'll be the end of him and his hope of making it in the NHL

J. Honka will never make it in the NHL. He's AHL tier.

It will get so hard for him in Dallas now that Heiskanen comes over. I'm going to guess that they trade him. One season left on his contract, so Dallas probably won't gain that much by trading him but he's still worth some later round pick(s) probably.

And well, if Murphy's Law decides to kick our hind sides with full force, the final meager solace there is that unlike the WJC, where missing the QF means entering the relegation, with these 9p we have we won't be anywhere near the line. Thinking about that won't make the remaining games such nailbiters, no matter what happens. This tournament is played annually, after all.

Thanx, Mr. FiLe. This makes me sleep the upcoming dark nights with a light heart and carefree mind. Relegation avoided! Torille.

Well, by that time the first early potatoes should be on the stands, so it's heartily recommended.

Regardless, if Larryberryhill cannot make this team win Germany w/o sacrificing the Canada match altogether then the CAN game must be sacrificed. It he cannot make the team win Germany even this way, well, let's go to Torille to buy some hot potatoes and muikkus when the summer comes.

I simply can't wait for J. Jalonen to be back in the ropes.

Assistant coach Karri Kivi. Let's do that. Slowly bring Karri Kivi in the team and after Jukka Jalonen has been 3 years as the NT head coach, Karri Kivi will take over in 2021-2022 season. Kivi can continue to do that Ilves thing simultaneously until he becomes the head coach of the NT after 3 years.

It will be raining gold medals with that recipe.

Hopefully Finland faces Korea again in the QFs.. or Latvia

I don't care piece of shit who Finland faces in quarterfinals.
And why? because i don't have any success expectations on this tournament.

Also i'm sorry for that i don't take unnecessary stress to rising my blood pressure
worrying how well or how badly Finland will success in annual skoda cup.

Have nice day.

Karri Kivi can take men's national teams head coach position after Jukka Jalonen if Tommi Niemelä isn't available to replace Jalonen.

Too early to say about Niemelä. I think he needs to be U20 coach first and see how he does there. It was the same story with Jussi Ahokas after he won the U18 championship and that hype has calmed down now after the latest U20 result. Must wonder what could've happened if they didn't let CZE have that QF goal...

Well Niemelä did sign that contract in Switzerland as the assistant coach of Ville Peltonen. It's a pretty hard spot to gain points towards something as big as Finnish NT coach position. He has a chance for some kind of NT assistant coach job in the future though.

Heiskanen is going to play LD for us and Honka is a RD so having Miro doesnt make Honka expendable. Also im sure the Org wants to see where he stands next year because until this season he was unreal for us in the AHL.

Its interesting to hear the comments about him here. I agree that he has not looked good in the tournament so far but he has been very very good for us in the AHL and was great under Ruff. Next year will be very telling for the kid

In Honka's defense, not many real games so far. USA, Canada and the potential QF game will tell way more.

I'll take your word for it as a person who watches Dallas more closely than me but I want to explain my thought process on the subject.

I haven't watched that closely of your defenders' situation but the fact that Honka played only 50% of the games and the issue wasn't injuries AFAIK makes me thinking that they see Honka as a very much expendable piece or could it be that it gets better for Honka now that there's a new coach after Lindy Ruff era?

Klingberg taking majority of the PP time and I'm guessing Heiskanen will become the second most important PP defenseman for you. Then I'm guessing your next option is Honka, while Lindell isn't bad at that job either. My knowledge about the situaton kind of ends there and I don't know if you got more offensive, possibly smallish defensemen but I assume you have 1-2 more of them, so I think it doesn't leave that much room for Honka. Like you mentioned him being a rightie is probably the biggest factor why Dallas might keep him for longer. Could Dallas already be thinking about extending him cheaper by limiting his minutes a bit and then increase the minutes, sort of like the case with Nutivaara of Columbus?

Nill doesnt meddle with coaching decisions. So hitch ran Pateryn over Honka. Nill believes in Honka but Hitch doesnt and Im not sure why because we were objectively better with him in the lineup and Pateryn was straight up bad for half the season. Its weird watching these games because Honka has made some pretty stupid passes that have caused scoring chances however in Dallas he will often post better transition numbers than Klingberg. With Pateryn hopefully walking as a UFA Honka should be our clear cut 3 RD (the position that should have been his last year)

He is definitely the most expendable of our young D but unless we get an equal age winger we should just hold on to him because thanks to Klingberg he never needs to be more than a top 4/2nd PP guy

Both gold medals came in tournament where finland lost to minor hockey country. 1995 they lost tournaments first game 5-0 to germany. And honestly denmark had good team so its not that big surprise that they could really challange big hockey country for real in world championships.

Bad Game, Bad Coaching, Bad Defense, Not eficent offense, only husso plays well but he cant win this yesterday.

After 3 wins and 1 lose, Not all can be Bad but yesterday Shows what can Happen with a Great goaltending and a lot of Heart.

Normally fins have this also so i think nothing is happen we can get the Topspot in the group already.

Am I the only one who has been underwhelmed by Rantanen? 84 points in NHL and he hasn't stood out against B -level countries. 6 points is fine, but only two assists in 5on5 play. I was expecting a lot more from him! That he would be threat everytime on the ice against these lesser teams, but hasn't been able to create anything 5on5.

Maybe my expectations were too high and I am expecting him to be a driver, when infact he is just complementary player who happened to play with incredible hot MacKinnon this year, which boosted his stats by 30-40 points...

Yeah, just like it boosted Landskog's sta....oh wait, that didn't happen. Nobody boosts anybody's stats by 30-40 points, what a dumb comment. Holy crap. Holy f***ing crap.

He's probably playing injured. Also, that line had a massively unsustainable on ice shooting percentage at both powerplay and even strength so both of their point totals will likely see major regression next year.

They did not have an unsustainable shooting % on 5v5 actually. Even Mackinnon shot at 13%, which is more of a normal S% compared to what he's had before. They were good and they will continue to be good. Nothing unsustainable.

In 1995 IIHF men's world championships Finland lost their first game vs Czech Republic 3-0 not Germany. Check your facts boy.
