Team Finland WC 2023

I'm not as fired up for this tournament as I usually are. I think it's because we have had so much success lately it's starting to feel almost boring? Maybe that's not the right word but I think you guys get it. Playing at home again doesn't help. Last year was special since we had not hosted for a while and we had never won a home tournament. But doing it again just a year later? I don't know. Been there done that kind of feel. Happy for those that couldn't attend last year but gets a chance to that this year tho. Anyway in the end, I'll find myself sitting and rooting for our guys as always.

One thing i didn't think about earlier is that the schedule really isn't favoring us. We play all the tough games first and then the "easy games".
I guess it's not that big of a deal, but still would prefer it to be the other way around.

Anyway good luck to our boys and go get the W today!

I've been thinking this a lot lately, what is exactly missing this time.

My favorite English word is 'Integrity'. And that is perfect word to describe what is lacking.

Anyhow, if they overcome what is missing and still succeed, it will be classic. First time their biggest hurdle is between their ears. Naturally, I hope hockey gods let them be successful...

Even if it'd require those never ending cha cha cha's.

I doubt he is even invited, unfamiliar player for Jalonen.

Well.. Antti Suomela is even more unfamiliar what Haula to Jalonen.

Before this season, Jalonen had never coached Suomela at any level,
not to mention EHT. Suomela's last EHT (or his only WC) where he played,
was under Marjamäki, years ago.

Suomela had a shitty pre tournament EHT, where as Harri Pesonen,
who is one of Jalonen's favorite players, was great.

The fact that Suomela is playing as our 2C ATM... is one of the strangest choices ever,
and it makes me question and doubt that this was Jalonen's decision.

He was on the camp though and Suomela played some games so Jalonen got to know him. Haula would just come into the lineup without any games. And yea without contract he isn't coming anyway.

After Dallas took 3-2 lead in the Seattle series I'm going to guess that Pesonen will get his tournament pass stamped and he will play vs Germany. I'm quite sure about that.

I'm not 100% sure on Merelä getting his tournament passport stamped yet though. Jalonen might just stamp both of Pesonen's & Merelä's passes against Germany. It wouldnt be surprising at all, but it will be interesting to see if he finds Tolvanen as a good enough replacement. It does seem like Seattle is done. After Pavelski returned. Dallas' first line has been as good as usual and that's too much for Seattle it seems or that makes the difference in otherwise quite even series. I'm going to guess that Jalonen & Lehtinen won't invite Tolvanen, because in the recent games Tolvanen hasn't been that amazing and the travel time is a problem as well. I really hope that Jalonen keeps one slot open if something miraculous happens in Florida or Dallas series. I mean we can still get one of Hintz, Heiskanen or Barkov. Stamping Merelä should wait when we are talking about this caliber of players, even if they arrive late it's so worth it. We would get a completely difference making defender in Heiskanen or a world class center for Rantanen.

I wouldn't question the gold finger Jukka Jalonen. He has broken Finnish ice hockey history so many times now. We'll probably get gold again.

There is a reason Jalonen has left two players unstamped. He's still waiting. I agree, it's likely that we won't get anyone from the NHL, but he's still keeping the option open.

Nice that it's finally starting today. Been a long wait as always

Was just wondering.. how amazing and sad it is at the same tlme thay Carolina just advanced and Dallas & Florida are looking like they will advance as well. Those teams have like total 13 Finns and most of them are our top NHL players.
More important than winning another skoda in my humble opinion. Imagine Dallas Vs Florida/Carolina. A dream come true for Finns! I can't deny that when Detroit won in 2007 with all those Swedes I was envious. It might be our turn to watch the Finnish flag breakout with our own platoon of Finns alongside the Lord SC.

I mean it would be kinda amazing to see Barkov lifting the Stanley Cup :D

But I love Aho too and I like Heiskanen and Hintz so I can't have one favorite.

What a huge shocker (not)... Manninen signed a contract with Geneve-Servette. So he's reunited with Hartikainen again there also. They should be motivated now to respark their chemistry in this tournament. Good signing by Geneve. I wonder if this means that Filppula retires? I can't imagine all these Finns are cheap for Geneve. They also got Vatanen there and there's some kind of maximum number of foreigners limit in NLA. I can't remember how many are allowed.

Could be Omark's replacement as well, one swiss dude said that Filppula is considering to continue his career in Switzerland.

Omark and Härski had great chemistry too.

This and several other articles aged well. I don't understand why people STILL thinks names on paper decides the outcome. You could turn this other way, instead of having roster full of half forced players. You have roster full highly motivated players, who want to play at the World championship and win.

This game was a good proof that Ismo Lehkonen right, Finland is losing in skating to other top countries. It was painfull to watch time to time, how far behind Finland was. Change the lines and punch in Pesonen, we need more speed and the lack of PMDs showed.

Hartikainen - Manninen - Kapanen
Kakko - Suomela - Rantanen
Pesonen - Lammikko - Armia
Sallinen - Björninen - Anttila
