What are the odds that if healthy, Vaakanainen is loaned to the team?

If he was 100% he should be 100% on the roster.
He doesn't make the Bruiks top6 with
Chara
Krug
Moore
Grzelcyk
On LD.

The question is in what shape is he in. He's been skating but don't know more.

If the Finns get Vaakanainen they could win the group. Especially with Sweden missing Liljegren, and having their starter suspended for the Finland game.
We can win the group whiteout Vaakanainen as well. This team is good, i want to say underrated almost. BUT we need to see how they perform on NA ice first. One good thing is that we have a lot of forwards that have or plays in Northamerica. Tolvanen,Heponiemi,Talvitie,Ranta,Nyman,Virtanen and Moilainen. 7 of 14 forwards, and 7 of 12 playing forwards. They will adjust quickly, thats one reason that make me think that the curse will be broken this year ;)

Sweden doesn't really have a number one yet, it could be either one of Åhman, Eriksson Ek and Ersson.

In this decade Finnish captain has tended to be one of the guys with highest expectations within the team. Of this bunch I would say Lindbohm was the weakest at the time of WJC, but since then he has had better career than Jyri Niemi.

2010 Niemi
2011 Vatanen
2012 Granlund
2013 Lindbohm
2014 Teräväinen
2015 Lehkonen
2016 Rantanen
2017 Juolevi
2018 Välimäki

Therefore I would choose Jokiharju as well. Talvitie may well be alternate captain. I can see similarities for 2017 where you can replace Jokiharju with Juolevi and Talvitie with Björkqvist.

Hopefully though the results won't be repeating that year.

With the injury situation in Nashville getting a bit better and with Tolvanen in Milwaukee, I don't see why they wouldn't let him go. I mean, we let Forsberg go in 13-14.

And here's what Vesalainen had to say about not going;

It's pretty selfish to say that "it's my thing, not their thing". When this guy is a first round pick and a really talented youngster. People want entertainment from hockey, I watch hockey because of entertainment and we pay the bills of these players also. They would have zero money without fans, zero.

In the otherhand I understand the thing travelling back and forth, but WJC is special and he will never have a chance to win it ever again. Finland even gets a really good team it's a shame.

Hockey ain't entertainment to them. Do you think they play hockey to entertain us? They play because they like it. His life, his choice.

So Jokiharju didn't even want to come, that doesn't bode well. It seems that WJC isn't as popular among players than some thought it would be.

Point was that his way of thinking is selfish. Fans want to see the best players play, this is a huge respect towards Vesalainen and he doesn't even understand it which is pretty weird in my opinion.

Put in context something like Alex Ovechkin deciding not to play for team Russia in home Olympics.. his life his decision right? that would make fans mad and think he is selfish to not give thought to the fans at all, only himself and his money.

If bergevin cared one bit for the kid and not only his own self he’d loan kotkaniemi. He would miss 5 game. Big deal for a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Not having a number one goalie isn’t really our biggest problem this year neither is missing Liljegren, its the complete absence of starpower on offense.

Its every players right and choice to decide whether or not they want to represent their national team regardless of what level. Vesalainen has his right to that, end of discussion. I personally disagree with his choices to decline the World Junior invitation and also bolting to the KHL rather than developing with the Moose but I can see why he declined. Guy just got to Finland not too long ago and if he wanted to play would have to fly back to North America. Not really selfish for wanting to focus on furthering his development either.

No you don't understand, his choice wasn't selfish I said in my post that I understand that in terms of travelling.. but his choice of words were. As if he doesn't play for fans, only for himself. He doesn't understand why fans are mad at him, when they only want to see him play. How hard is this to understand for everyone? It's disrespectful towards fans.

I don't know if the exact words are out of context or something since it's not directly from him.. but it gives me negative feelings anyways on a subconscious level that I can't help.

He hasnt insulted anyone, and quite frankly it doesnt matter if all the fans are pissed off with him for the words he used. As a Jets fan id prefer for him to develop his skills and have him play and succeed with our Jets and the Finnish mens team in the future. If the fans cant understand that he wants to develop and hone his skills against men rather than playing in the World Juniors this year then it sucks to be them.

Nobody is saying anything about that though, development is good.. just don't question angry fans that only want to see your skills on ice. That is completely understandable that if arguably one of the best players of the tournament is out, some are disappointed. Inevitable.

Vaakanainen getting closer but still practising in non contact jersey.

Time is really running out.

Isn't the first game on 26th? Still nearly a week to go.

He's been out for like 2 months with a concussion, so this hasn't been a minor concussion.

Boston is going to be carefull with him.
