Make a difference as to how badly China gets beaten? No doubt they would. It's not like anyone expects China to be competitive no matter what kind of a team they can realistically be expected to ice but at least the scores wouldn't be unprecedented like they would be in case China has to choose their goalie from Derek Dun, Jordan Liem, Zehao Sun and Pengfei Han while having a line or two consist mostly of native Chinese skaters.

I mean, it would help a bit but not substantially so. These are still minor leaguers going up NHL all-star teams.

The KHL is not a minor league. A few extra KHL-level players + a KHL-level goalie compared to players who may not even have played a game since the pandemic began would give the team a major boost compared to what the team looks now within the current sphere of eligibility rules.

I was reading that the IIHF was looking to waive residence requirements just to avoid this being an international embarrassment

Last season Kunlun played their home games in Russia. I can see that season being counted for playing in China while not actually doing it.

If Kunlun is supposed to be the core of Chinese Olympic team they look pretty bad. Two periods against Neftekhimik in season opener and they're down 0-3. There's very little offense and their skill level looks low. Maybe they will improve as season progresses but right now it doesn't look promising.

Updated roster prediction:

Yip - Kane - Wong
P.Foo - Lockhart - S.Foo
Seto - Werek - Nicholls
Riche - Yang Hu - Squires
Rudi Ying

Chelios - Sproul
Bartley - Joe
Yuen - Fram
Tam - Ruinan Yan

Smith - O´Brien - Pengfei Han

That meas 17 chinese heritage players, 4 chinese players and 3 players without any connection to China other than their club team.

Is Chris Chelios going to be putting on the blades to play?

He would probably still be good enough to make the Chinese national hockey team.

So the "Chinese National Team" has exactly 4 Chinese players what a freaking joke plain and simple.

And looking at their roster in that game 1 guy that is actually Chinese played.

Kunlun Red Star 2021-22 roster and scoring statistics at hockeydb.com

I hope that teams play to their best and crush them.

But they won't and that in itself is another joke.

Why? As a canadian i said destroy them (score wise)
Take no prisoners: Score, defensive, and physical play.

This is the real deal, best-on-best. They can withdraw from the game if it's too much as far as I care. It is disrespectful to all the other teams if any team "goes lightly" on some trash team.

I also hope they play Germany very hard and run up the score (if possible). This isn't 2018, Canada will have a competitive team now.

If you take a look at the 2017 Asian Winter Games, China got trashed 10-0 and 14-0 by Korea and Japan.

Korea got crushed 11-1 by Denmark a week ago.

So essentially they're whipping boys to whipping boys from the perspective of whipping boys.

I think it's safe to say we're going to see 20-0 scorelines, or worse.

I’m sure that was their team without any imports though.

if their KHL team plays I’m sure it will be something like 7-1 for Canada.

If an actual Chinese team plays it could easily be something like 25-0 and I would love to see it.

This might be our last W against China in my lifetime so I will enjoy it as I can.

Confirmed: NHL Stars Set to Play at 2022 Beijing Olympics (chinasportsinsider.com)

Article said:
For a start, there’s no way that the IIHF will throw China out of the tournament with just five months to go. That was only ever a threat used to speed up the recruitment of heritage players – and it worked.
As I have previously reported, those heritage players (i.e. foreign-born players of Chinese descent) are now in Russia playing for Kunlun Red Star in the KHL alongside 10 or so Chinese homegrown players, who together will form the basis for Team China at the 2022 Olympics. Their naturalization status is unclear and the fact that the IIHF has been willing to throw its eligibility rules out of the window isn’t a great look, but I don’t think anyone really cares at this point. China won’t win a game, and so it benefits all sides – China, the IIHF, and even the other national teams – that the hosts are more competitive than they would have been without the foreign-born recruits. The fact that they are recruits of (at least some) Chinese descent helps mitigate against the argument that their last-minute presence stifles development of the domestic game.

Kunlun has started its KHL season.

Lost 1-5 against Neftekhimik and then beat Ak Bars Kazan 4-3 after being three goals down. 44 saves for Lazushin in the latter game.

Is he going to be the goalie for Team China?

If they send Kunlun to the Olympics what do these have to do with anything.

And almost everyone on Kunlun this year will/would play in the OG, whatever legal barriers there are to jump over to get it done. Otherwise, they wouldn't be on the team the way it's built this year.

And before you say they will still be hopelessly outclassed by everyone (which is kinda true), if they can [luckily] beat Ak Bars they have a fighting chance against Latvia and such as well.

I have no idea about the status of these players. They aren't eligible according to IIHF rules. I haven't been following any updates regarding China and any possible rule-bending, so the questions are honest, not rhetorical.

If they're sending the entire Kunlun roster, they're going to be a decent team. Better than Korea.

Most players would appear to be eligible as long as they are given passports upon nomination, only four or so players have evident eligibility problems that the IIHF will kindly need to make go away:

GK

Alexander Lazushin (less than 16 consecutive months in China)
Paris O'Brien
Jeremy Smith (less than four consecutive years in China / Team USA)

D
Victor Bartley (less than four consecutive years in China / Team Canada)
Jake Chelios
Jason Fram
Colin Joe
Ryan Sproul
Mikaël Tam
Zach Yuen

F
Parker Foo
Spencer Foo
Sam Hu
Cory Kane
Luke Lockhart
Josh Nicholls
Alex Riche
Chris Seto
Greg Squires

Ethan Werek (less than four consecutive years in China / Team Canada)
Tyler Wong
Brandon Yip

The only real issue is the goalie. Otherwise, it's marginally weakened Kunlun. And even then, maybe they can solve this, they could use Werek and it would be somewhat ironic that the guy who actually has the most games played for Kunlun would be ineligible.

so the team will basically be a khl team. thats actually decent. cant see them losing with 20-0 as some say. and why would a khl team not be able to beat germany?

Prove that he has participated for at least two consecutive hockey seasons and 16 consecutive months (480 days) in the national competitions of his new country after his 10th birthday during which period he has neither transferred to another country nor played ice hockey within any other country.

That last sentence sure doesn't sound like they're eligible.

Fine, I can give you two examples, and you can search for more if you wish.

Francis Paré & Darren Dietz. Both after two seasons with Dinamo Minsk/Barys Nur-Sultan were eligible to play for Belarus/Kazakhstan. It is the same with Chinese & KRS.
