you gotta love it when players start jumping up and down oh pick me pick me. Let's hope we see more of this.

I don't recall any precedent for this honestly. I don't recall any players publicly saying that they would love to go. Closest I can think of is Spezza calling Hockey Canada a few years ago. It's not a bad thing at all. At the very least there does seem to be an uptick in the interest among players over the years.

That forward core will be incredible if Tavares goes.

ya, I think it's highly unlikely Tavares actually goes as a UFA. I'd be shocked. I'm sure he may want to and gave the programmed PC "I love to play for my country when I get the chance" answer, but his agent will talk some sense into him. If I were his agent I'd threaten to quit if he actually went through with it. Now, I wouldn't actually quit, but I would offer up the threat.

A big money making client like that for the agent?.............I wouldn't even dare threaten to quit, might piss him off and he might fire you. Theres a million agents out there he can get.

I would simply explain the facts of life to him in a pleasant, caring and calm manner to try persuade him not to go.

No need for hard ass tactics.

Why not take out insurance on his future earnings?

It's called high limit disability insurance and thousands of athletes get it. Especially in the NFL where the contracts aren't guaranteed.

Hockey Canada generally pays the insurance, and if it is too high they may not want to bother picking him and paying it. That happened with Weber a few years ago. As for Tavares taking it out himself, it doesn't seem reasonable that he would pay his own money just to pay in this tournament.

Even better.

Since Burke himself asked Tavares about potential availability, I'd assume this won't be an issue.

Perhaps. I would like to see Tavares there, but I can see the cost and risk being an issue for both parties if Tavares doesn't sign soon.

Drouin himself said he was interested. Sean Burke is a pro-scout with MTL, so it's a safe assumption he is in the mix.

I am opposed.

Yeah, you are on record as being anti Drouin for the skodas, personally I would like to see him there, skilled guy who could use a good showing in a tournament like this. Of course if we end up just getting a wealth of talent then maybe he just can't squeeze onto the roster, depends on who is coming.

Been a long long long time since the World's meant significantly more than the Olympics.

Do you guys think Bo Horvat would be good enough to get the call up? More of a defensive centre than an offensive one, I suppose, but good on draws and special teams.
