Will Tavares play for Canada in Worlds?

John Tavares has a contract situation he must consider but also a country he’d like to represent if asked.
So, deciding whether to play for Team Canada in the upcoming World Championships May 4-20 in Denmark is more complicated than a simple yes or no for the impending unrestricted free agent. Tavares is one of several Islanders who could commit to the 16-country tournament now that the team has been eliminated from playoff contention.
“I don’t have a contract for next year so I’ve just got to determine what is the right thing to do,” Tavares said on Thursday. “I’ve always enjoyed playing for my country. It’s disappointing not being in the playoffs, but sometimes this gives you a chance, if circumstances are right, to continue your season and finish on a good note.”

Barzal said he wants to play if he’s invited.
“I know [Connor] McDavid is going so to get a chance to play with him and see him live and up close would be pretty cool,” Barzal said of the Oilers’ superstar.

I'm gad to not have Gallagher. I would like to see Drouin invited, he has a lot more to offer than he has shown in Montreal this year.

only at LW, certainly not as a Center. and only if about 4 others decline or not available after rd. 1. Benn, Hall and Schwartz. I said to you a few months ago, if he and MacKinnon want to rekindle their Halifax magic...then that's fine.

but he does have a lot to prove. I just haven't got the confidence in him you seem to have.

Certainly as a LW. Drouin has the potential to be a great player, but it seems his head gets in the way at times. I like this tournament as an opportunity to give such guys a chance. He can also be used as slight motivation for MacKinnon should he be available.

If Tavares GO in Denmark . This be fantastic for Canada. Tavares big patriot for Canada.

Tavares would be incredibly irresponsible to go if he doesn't have a contract signed before the tournament starts. We should not expect him.

What don't you like about Gallagher? He is all hustle and can score goals, he gets his nose dirty.

I am with you on Drouin, I hope he gets an invite. I am still a believer in the kid and I think he could be a real good weapon over there for us, he's got the skills, just needs to put things together. This tournament could really help him after a bad first year experience playing centre in Montreal, stick him at his natural wing at this thing and put him with good players and let him go.

Drouin-McDavid-MacKinnon - looks awesome

I want you ! I need you ! but their ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you now don't be sad ( don't be sad) cause two out of three aint bad !

there are likely many better winger to finish that line than Drouin. But its the world championships, so who cares ?

Gallagher was the worst forward on the team in 2016 (by a decent margin in my estimation) and I hated his performance at the 2012 WJC. His style just doesn't suit international hockey and he doesn't have the talent to compensate. Drouin is a very high end talent, and the reward if he puts it together for a few weeks is far greater than the risk of him floating around on the fourth line if he doesn't.

Yeah, you've got a good point there on Gallagher.

I guess i'm giving him a little extra rope because he's a Hab.

Point and Stamkos would be wonderful additions and I think they would be inclined to play.

Tampa stinks right now and have for over a month at least now, I would lay pretty good money they are getting bounced first round.

I agree they would be good additions, but disagree with your assessment of Tampa. I think they are a good team and will be dangerous.

Really?

I think they flat out stink now, no drive, can't complete simple passes, bad defensively, vasilevskys confidence looks shot.

They are low hanging fruit IMO.

Just after I wrote that I watched the bruins rag doll them like minor leaguers for a 3-1 lead.

Tampa looks BAAAAAD. They just look like a team that has totally lost it and don't have any answers for what ails them.

Yup, they beat them tonight and took over first place in their division to boot. They seem to be going through their rough patch. I wouldn't l;look past them.

Who knows, can't count them out because of the talent they have but to me right now they look like a team whose confidence is totally shot.

I would not lay a plum nickel on them winning the cup.

That is your right. For, as a Leaf fan we have to go through Boston and/or Tampa to even have a shot at a final.

Think the Leafs will whoop em if it's tampa they meet.

Anyway, it's getting off topic now, back to Team Canada 2018 Skoda cup.

Id agree they dont look good but its also a team that has been thinking about the playoffs for 4 months. It wont be an easy series, experience matters one team has alot one team doesnt have much.

Couldnt have said it better myself.
