WC: Team Canada Roster Helsinki-Tampere 2022

You never know at this tournament, depends on how well they gel and if we can get quality goaltending. It was only a first game exhibition but we only won in a shoot out against the U.S today. Can't read too much into that but I would have liked to have watched the game to see if we out clearly played them only to have had it close because of bad goals let in by our tender.

I've seen that far too many times.

At least we got a tuneup game this year. If memory serves I think we just parachuted in last year skipping any warmups, practices. Team just has to find it's groove by the 1/4 final. Hopefully a Stecher and a Mangiapane emerge in this year's group.

Yes it's much better with at least one game under our belt before starting. What do you think about our goalies by the way? Barzal needs to have a big tournament IMO, we need an offensive hub, he's got the tools to be that.

The road to gold goes through Finland for us at this tournament lately IMO, you normally have to beat them to win, be it a quarter, semi or final game.

Circle the game on the calendar. I usually like to have a crack at them in the round robin games first just to see where you stand as a team win or lose.

It's good preparation.

I never pay too much attention to goalies. They are a whacked out lot and too unpredictable. in the end, they are only as good as the group of 5 playing in front of him. If those 5 are committed, then we can get by with Joe Blow the beer leaguer.

Hmmm, I wouldn't go that far but I somewhat agree. I'm a stickler for good goaltending myself, it can break a team so many times whether they are playing well in front of him or not.

The proverbial needle prick to the balloon.
 
I like the roster but not the schedule. Group A is so weak that we won't face a legit gold contender till the elimination round. That might be a rude shock.

I guess with Sweden finishing 9th last year (or whatever) and you know who gone it's cock-eyed.
 
Julien didn't impress at the Olympics. He kept Eric Stall as #1 center long after it became obvious that wasn't working out. Team never got on track. Maybe he's figured it out -- short tournament you can't wait around to make moves. He has enough talent at his disposal to find lines/systems that work. Find out starting tomorrow.

Will be defensive team. He is stubborn this is why he isn’t in the nhl. Old style. I don’t think they will win

yeah, and so what if they do? can't win it every year. but a few young, promising players get in some needed reps in preparation of a much more significant tournament in 2024 or '26. It's a win-win.

He's missing on IIHF squad. But he's in rooster on hockeycanada.

only 21 of the 24 named have been registered so far...haven't heard anything as of yet as to why. we'll just have to wait and see. I guess it means Barzal will not play today's opening game.

He may be slighty sick or something. I don't know if the players still need to come to the registration centre in person, as it used to be at least with junior tournaments some years ago. If yes, he might as well simply miss that and may be added with some delay.

Maybe 1 max 2 will be in the mix for world cup/ Olympics 2024 2026 i was not saying it for being rude, but so many class players have declined
