Well both North American teams lack star players , lets say it was the Olympics that was moved until now, they was not tired. Canada have at least 4 spots open
None of the teams in this tournament have a true star-level player, this Canadian side looks far, far better than the USA, at least on paper.

its not true that no teams have star players , Canada always have better team than USA i agree

Who in this tournament would you designate as a star player?
Well most teams squad have not been released yet, Thomas Chabot ? Heinz Ehlers ? seth jones ? jakub voracek, Tomas Tatar ,Nico Hischier

Ah okay, I would tend to view those players as more of an all-star type of player whereas I would define a super-star as an Auston Matthews, McDavid or Makar level player.

They was there few years back , all the time the stars are there, Mc david - P kane - Johnny Gau - was in my county playing WC few years back , are they not stars ? Darcy Kuemper was goalie for Canada

I know, most of the teams in this tournament have a superstar calibre player such as Switzerland with Josi or Germany with Draisaitl but I don't think I am alone in thinking that no team has a true superstar calibre player on their team yet.

If you talk top 20 in the world or those who declined then yes, but there is more than 20 star players in the hockey world

Yeah, people have different opinions on what a superstar means to me a super-star is a McDavid level player and an all-star is an Ehlers or Barzal which is why I would view this tournament as lacking a true super-star level player at the moment while you may think it is quite a few. Nothing wrong with that though.

So a NHL player that earn 7 mil us dollars are not a super star ?

I don't really think a player's salary has all the much to do with it, I wouldn't exactly call Jeff Skinner or Van Riemsdyk a super-star just cause they are paid like it. Regardless I would never fault you for disagreeing with me I perhaps just have a more stringent view on who I would deem to be a super-star.

Sure you can have your levels of who is a superstar, that's up to you. Now you come with examples of skinner an VR , was Mario L and Yzerman not super stars in the Olympic 2002 ?

Okay, I don't think that we will ever agree with one another so I will just explain my viewpoint one last time. I myself view a superstar as an incredibly elite talent akin to Sidney Crosby or Auston Matthews. To me, players such as Ehlers or Chabot fit the role of an all-star better they are still amazing players albeit not on the same level as a top 10 player in the NHL. You may view Tatar as a superstar but to me, a 30-point player does not come close, similarly, I wouldn't call Hishier nor Ehlers a superstar, perhaps one day but not yet at least.

If that is the final team I think its a good forward group, especially for this tournament. Goaltending and defense is okay.

Considering you won last year with you G-team, this years team would be heavy favorite to win a gold medal. You have also historically done very well when the tournament has been played in Finland.

I'll settle for a couple of young Blues players once they are out to fill out the roster. Kyrou, Parayako and Thomas. Kyrou and Parayako especially. It will add a little Greek and Ukrainian flare to the party.

Is this the official roster of Team Canada?

Oh , this is a big team. Won’t get pushed around by the Americans as they usually do in this tournament

I'm looking forward to seeing either or both of Batherson and Dubois on Barzal's wing.

Very nice to get Barzal. Exactly the kind of guy I wanted on the team and someone that could really benefit from the experience. I really like the look of the team so far and even if it's scrubs to fill out the roster I'm still content.

For sure! Was a bit worried at lack of "name" players til recently but Barzal, PLD & Chabot do it for me.

Not to mention a supporting cast incl Cozens, Batherson & Severson. :) Looking good!

It's so funny to watch you all trying to find an explanation for why North American teams fielded weak lineups) The answer is obvious, but for some reason you won't say it out loud) Keep picking up options, at least it will be fun for me 😅

What do you all think: When somebody registered on this page in late April 2022 and roughly 80 % of their posts are reproduction of Russian political propaganda, plus a few shouts about how meaningless is a tournament Russia was kicked out from - is that enough to consider that person a troll?
