Which role players? Kris Draper is the only one I can think of. About the 2006 team, Canada just never was in sync and looked out of sorts in a disorganized way. I think we can all agree that Pronger playoff run in 06 was legendary but he looked lost at the Olympics. Just something missing

Pronger had a foot injury at the time and several of the defencemen were not suited to the larger ice surface. The team wasn't perfectly picked by any stretch and it didn't help that at that time some of Canada's best were just not ideal fits for the larger ice. Bad tournament for Canada but probably a useful learning experience.

We were terrible and yet Sweden, the Gold Medal winner, still intentionally lost to avoid us.

That HAS to make us feel good, at least a little bit... doesn't it?

Maybe not.

Embarrassing for Sweden, but winning the tournament more than makes up for that I'm sure. In the end at the top level Canada is Canada and the other teams have to have that in mind. The fans sure do.

I'm sure the Swedish players feel they made the right decision and, TBH, so do I. If there was a path for Canada to win Gold at a tournament, I'd take it - people will forget about how you got there.

I'm surprised they haven't made a sports documentary on the incident - a 30 for 30 or something along those lines. It would be fun/interesting. Interview the players and I'm sure they'd laugh about it. Some would deny it, some might hint at it, some might admit to it. Again, it would be fun.

Besides, I don't think Sweden had anything to worry about - they would have beaten us in 2006 and they deserve their Gold.

I can't believe Sid is about to turn 34. It seems like yesterday, we were watching him play on the World Junior team that dominated. Yikes!

where is the proof? some players admitting that losing to slovakia will give us eazier qf is not the same thing as they actually did it.

I've read some Tavares slander, its almost as if people are forgetting how much of a beast he's been representing Canada ever since Juniors.

Like I get the Leafs hatred, but JT has been nothing but money for Canada at all levels.

As a Leaf fan, I am soooo glad we got rid of Lou Lamoriello.

Can you imagine how UN-disciplined Marner would be if Lou had stuck around? So much so, I might not even want Marner on Team Canada.

Tavares was actually supposed to go to the Worlds for Canada in 2019 but got injured right before the tournament started :( Almost a guarantee that Tavares will be there.

We love JT but we can do better. Time to let the next generation get their feet wet.

They tried that experiment before. NHL role players to play that specific role at a NHL Olympics. It failed miserably. Did you not watch the 2006 Turin Olympics? I'm still picking up pieces of my TV I tossed at the wall watching that mess.

but, granted, there were a few more issues with that team contributing to that loss than just 2-3 roster players.

My boy Morrow was a role player in 2010 but that man hit everything in sight. Hated the nod at first, loved it by the of the gold run

Olympic level?

The Sochi '14 Olympic team was a defensive monster, they surrendered just 3 goals all tournament, at the same time the entire team scored only 17 goals the entire tournament, most of the players on that team had 0 pts throughout the tournament. It wasn't a Team Canada known for its offensive flash. His '14 record is nothing against him.

It's certainly nothing for him either. 11 or so forwards put up points; Tavares put up none.

Nothing against Tavares, but I don't think it's fair to say that Tavares is money at all levels when he's never proven that at the highest level.

Are you forgetting that Tavares suffered a season ending knee injury in the game vs Latvia? He didn’t even play the entire tournament.

Besides that fact, it’s pretty obvious that a lot of players produced very little..and it was by design, it was a system of play entirely dedicated to defence, that’s why it was a 17-3 goal differential.

I mean even Crosby had just 3 points. Kind of tells the story doesn’t it?

I think this comes down to you saying that Tavares is money at all levels and him not demonstrating that. Isn't this pretty clear cut?

4 points in his last 10 games and currently worse than he was back 6 years ago..... you're really basing this off his resume from 10+ years ago? He's never been money at the Olympics of any best on best since Juniors so no.

I'm with you on JT.

Thanks for your service, JT, but time to move on.

Someone from the Maple Leafs has to make the team. Otherwise the media will protest.
