Don’t want Tavares, I value skating much more in a best on best where speed is magnified. At this point would rather have Kyrou than Tavares
Mcdavid has only one playoff series victory and huberdeau has never won one.Yeah taveras is a winner, 1 playoff round win in 12 years, once he left NYI they went to back to back conference finals. Taveras is the opposite of winning, the anti Crosby.
Someone might want to take a crack at a non-NHLer roster.
Jake Virtanen anyone?
With the season that he has been having and the element that he would bring to a finesse team; I don’t see how Tom Wilson doesn’t make the roster other than the fact that he has a bad disciplinary history. The guy can play in every situation effectively. The way that he skates with the puck reminds me of Eric Lindros at times.
Presenting Team Canada 2022:
Stamkos - McDavid - Stone
Huberdeau - MacKinnon - Marner
Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Dubois - Couturier - Point
(O’Reilly, Barzal)
Theodore - Pietrangelo
Chabot - Ekblad
Pelech - Makar
(Doughty, Weegar)
Price
Kuemper
Binnington
You won't take Pietrangelo or Pelech but you'll take Nurse who's even worse at D? Lol. Might as well put Morgan Rielly there too.I probably mix it up a bit.
Crosby - McDavid - Stone
Benn - Mackinnon - Marner
Dubois - Bergeron - Marchand
Huberdeau - Couturier - O'Reilly
(Stamkos, Point, Barzal)
Adds some grit to every line, let's Canada play the traditionally Canadian hard forecheck style.
On D, I don't think you bring Pietrangelo at all.
I also probably bring Nurse instead of Pelech. Only argument before was fancy stats, but Nurse has him beat in that regard soundly this year. Higher xGF lower xGA, more actual goals, less actual goals against... Bigger, faster, etc.
If you think Nurse should be brought and Pietrangelo shouldn’t (disregarding the fact he is already on the team), you’ve never watched Las Vegas and don’t pay for close attention when Edmonton is playing. Pietrangelo leads the league in takeaways and is the best player on the ice whenever I have seen him play in the last 6 months. With regards to Pelech and Nurse, Nurse is way too loose with the puck and has terrible gap control, and for the areas you would expect a player of his size to be good (in front of the net boxing out, corner). Pelech, on my limited viewings this year, has been ok, I personally would have him as an extra that is good in front of his own net, but I know full well I don’t want Nurse on this this team. Until a recent brain cramp type play at the blue line, I even had Bouchard in front of NurseI probably mix it up a bit.

Why not bring Logan Stanley too if that’s the standard he’s setting? You won't take Pietrangelo or Pelech but you'll take Nurse who's even worse at D? Lol. Might as well put Morgan Rielly there too.
Have you even watched him play this year? Dubois is the best forward on this team right now bar none, with Connor being a close 2nd. Scheifele, Ehlers, Wheeler and the rest of the offensive depth have fallen off a cliff. I wouldn't put Scheifele over Dubois on Team Canada at this point, his play is god awful this year.
We'll bring Morrissey and DeMelo tooWhy not bring Logan Stanley too if that’s the standard he’s setting?
I probably mix it up a bit.

It's a month's worth of hockey. Scheifele is shooting about 40% of his career sh%. Dubois is shooting about 130%. That sort of thing is going to color your view of how they're playing. If Scheifele isn't on the team, no Jets should be. Which is fine, since I didn't have either on my team.
Totally agree. Also add in the fact team Canada love there goal scoring power forwards and atm Dubois can fill that role. He can also take face offs. When we consider certain players, we need to look at what type of player they are and how much competition they have for that role. There are very few players in contention for team Canada that brings 1. Size 2. Goalscoring 3. Take face offs 4. LW. Who knows if dubois makes the team, but his play thus far has him in contention.I don't think Jamie Benn's mother even expects him to make the Canadian Olympic team at this point.
Acknowledging that there is about a month of hockey remaining until the roster is announced, we should want to select players who are playing well. Scheifele is not playing his best hockey right now, and Dubois is. While you would expect some reversion to the mean, Scheifele is probably in tough to make the team at this point (again, with a good amount of hockey left to play before selections are finalized). Additionally, Dubois has a good physical element that can provide balance on a lower line and in a more limited role, and he's a LHS, where we're not as deep as we are for RHS.

Pietrangelo is literally first in the league in high danger scoring chances against, ten more expected goals against than Nurse in 15 more minutes of icetime.
Unless you think Theodore + Stone + Pacioretty + Lehner is worse defensively than Barrie + McDrai + Koskinen...
Pietrangelo has been not very good this year.
Same goes with Pelech who has more High Danger Scoring chances against and more expected goals against than Nurse in the same 5 on 5 playing time playing behind NYI instead of EDM.

I'm curious to see what Barzal and Chabot would look like on fully functional teams this year. Not sure that I'd put them on the team at the moment but they would both remain under consideration for me.
I agree.I envision dubois with mackinnon as the center. Maybe mcdavid.Dubois is not good at faceoffs (~42 - 45% in his career) but at least he would be a LHS option if he ends up on a line with someone like MacKinnon or Point. With someone like O’Reilly or Couturier centering his line it would be irrelevant.
