Mcdavid has only one playoff series victory and huberdeau has never won one.

With the season that he has been having and the element that he would bring to a finesse team; I don’t see how Tom Wilson doesn’t make the roster other than the fact that he has a bad disciplinary history. The guy can play in every situation effectively. The way that he skates with the puck reminds me of Eric Lindros at times.

As Lindros' inability to stickhandle the puck with his head up resulted in him getting absolutely demolished repeatedly and cost him his career, I'm not so sure this is a good thing. Luckily for Wilson there is no one currently in the NHL with balls anywhere near the size of Stevens' or Kasparaitis'.

Wilson's disciplinary history should be enough to keep him off the team, hopefully.

If you think Nurse should be brought and Pietrangelo shouldn’t (disregarding the fact he is already on the team), you’ve never watched Las Vegas and don’t pay for close attention when Edmonton is playing. Pietrangelo leads the league in takeaways and is the best player on the ice whenever I have seen him play in the last 6 months. With regards to Pelech and Nurse, Nurse is way too loose with the puck and has terrible gap control, and for the areas you would expect a player of his size to be good (in front of the net boxing out, corner). Pelech, on my limited viewings this year, has been ok, I personally would have him as an extra that is good in front of his own net, but I know full well I don’t want Nurse on this this team. Until a recent brain cramp type play at the blue line, I even had Bouchard in front of Nurse

Have you even watched him play this year? Dubois is the best forward on this team right now bar none, with Connor being a close 2nd. Scheifele, Ehlers, Wheeler and the rest of the offensive depth have fallen off a cliff. I wouldn't put Scheifele over Dubois on Team Canada at this point, his play is god awful this year.

It's a month's worth of hockey. Scheifele is shooting about 40% of his career sh%. Dubois is shooting about 130%. That sort of thing is going to color your view of how they're playing. If Scheifele isn't on the team, no Jets should be. Which is fine, since I didn't have either on my team.

I don't think Jamie Benn's mother even expects him to make the Canadian Olympic team at this point.

Totally agree. Also add in the fact team Canada love there goal scoring power forwards and atm Dubois can fill that role. He can also take face offs. When we consider certain players, we need to look at what type of player they are and how much competition they have for that role. There are very few players in contention for team Canada that brings 1. Size 2. Goalscoring 3. Take face offs 4. LW. Who knows if dubois makes the team, but his play thus far has him in contention.

Unless you think Theodore + Stone + Pacioretty + Lehner is worse defensively than Barrie + McDrai + Koskinen...

go watch the play he makes at 6:25 in the video, a lazy turnover over complicating a simple play, followed by a terrible gap-up, followed by terrible 1-1 technique. I could post 10 of these from the first 16 games of the season that he has made. You do that against Ovechkin and Kucherov, the puck is in the back of the net

I really do not see Canada without Crosby/Bergeron/Marchand as a line for this tournament.

Dubios for me is iffy but Benn, I literally was wondering if you got his Dman brother mixed up not that he is an option anyways.

I'm curious to see what Barzal and Chabot would look like on fully functional teams this year. Not sure that I'd put them on the team at the moment but they would both remain under consideration for me.

My concern with Barzal is he doesn't seem to have taken that next step offensively this year. He's a tremendous puck carrier through the neutral zone, but he seems to be less effective than he should be when he's in the offensive zone.

On the subject of Tavares, I think he has a reasonable chance of being selected. His speed (or lack thereof) is a concern, but he’s a very smart and effective player. Competent defensively, elite on the faceoff dot, can easily move to left wing (which is probably where he’d end up given our depth at center). Hard to see where he’d fit in in our lineup, as we don’t project to have a physical possession line that I think Tavares could complement effectively (he did good work on Getzlaf’s wing in 2016). I don’t think he really has the speed anymore to hang with McDavid or MacKinnon (and I think they could benefit from something a little different on their lines than what Tavares brings to the table), but a 4th line LW role with, say, Couturier or O’Reilly, and Stone or Marner wouldn’t be bad configuration.

Not 100% sure if he’d thrive in a 4th line role with limited ice time, but he’s a fairly low risk/high floor player.

This is where Canada has a significant advantage over other countries. They can fill their roster with elite centers and move to the wing if needed.
