Good for him! I wish him well and my other compatriots plying their trade in Europe a successful tourney (if it happens) Still not enough to make me tune in to watch.

I hope he also answers the call in May to play some games at the WHC. (if it happens)

I'm starting to like Power more and more, he seems to have his priorities in the correct order. And the correct order is representing Canada trumps representing the Michigan wolverines every day of the week.

Why would Hockey Canada consider Virtanen or Leipsic for the team? Virtanen, if I'm not mistaken, is still being investigated by the Vancouver Police Department and has multiple allegations against him.
They probably already got the story straight and realized nothing seriously egregious was done.

Let's see how many I get right.

Forwards:
Cole Perfetti (AHL/NHL)-Corban Knight (KHL)-Max Veronneau (SHL)
Taylor Beck (KHL)-Eric Staal (FA)-Jordan Weal (KHL)
Daniel Winnik (NL)-Mason MacTavish (OHL)-Josh Currie (KHL)
Adam Cracknell (AHL)-Eric O'Dell (KHL)-Chris Terry (AHL)
Eric Fehr (KHL)

Defense:
Owen Power (NCAA)-Mat Robinson (KHL)
Michael Del Zotto (AHL)-Maxim Noreau (NL)
Tyler Wotherspoon (AHL)-Jason Demers (KHL)
Kaiden Guhle (WHL)

Goalies:
Eddie Pasquale (KHL)
Devan Dubnyk (AHL)
Devon Levi (NCAA)

Robinson, Noreau, and O'Dell are returning players from 2018. Staal likely captains this team if he is picked.

I’d be hesitant to take Staal.

I doubt he has anything left.

I think you have to look at the field. The U.S. took Brian Boyle to last year's World Championships and he proved to be a good player/leader even though he was basically unemployed. Staal might fill a similar role on what is likely to be a very young team.

It's extra funny because some of the people Leipsic was dumping on in his group chat were ex-Canucks teammates (specifically, Jake Virtanen and his friend circle)
So they should definitely put them on the same team.

I know they are 16 and 17 but I think I’d have Wright and Bedard higher rated than some on the list, like McBain Quinn and Krebs

No chance. Wright and Bedard aren't physically or mentally mature enough for this level. They'd be facing the best competition in Europe not in the NHL.
They're in the same boat as Michkov, who (with SKA and at the EHT) looks great on occasion, or when extremely sheltered; but mostly tries stuff that won't work vs men and/or is easily knocked off the puck .

Honestly I would take Bedard for the power play. Yeah he’s still too young, but he would be the most naturally skilled player in the tournament with extra room playing on the big ice.

yeah, me too. start him out on the PP and see how it goes. I don't think he'll be an impactful player, but I doubt he'll get overwhelmed by the competition. A EHT Olympics is just another developmental tool..not really worth getting all that worked up about. Bring Bedard and Wright + a few of the other U20 players, Power, McTavish and Johnson. and have a party.

Looking forward to seeing if/when Corban Knight gets confirmed on the team how he'll do, doing pretty good this year in the KHL being third in points.

Has Jason Akeson a chance to make the team. He has a career year in the DEL 1,40 P/G.

I'd take Orson Welles, who played Citizen Kane, before I'd want Evander Kane at the Olympics.
Good way to put it. No way Hockey Canada touches Evander Kane right now. They would not want that distraction right now. Kane would be a great fit for Canada, but not worth the trouble.

I must say, this has not been a particularly strong year for Canadian players in the NHL. I think that Canada would be a fair bit weaker in 2022 than in 2010, 2014, or 2018 had that happened. It would be a good team but it really doesn't look great compared to general expectations, at least from what I would expect to see.

I would enjoy if some guys like Power or McTavish could get a shot at further development at this tournament. That would at least get a small positive out of a big disappointment.

Devon Levi could be a really good story. From WJC starter one year to Olympic starter the next. The kid is on a roll and on fire. Really curious to see how this works out for him if he gets named.

I don't know much about NCAA hockey but it sounds like Levi has been ridiculous this year. He was certainly great that the WJC. No idea if he's on the radar but he's exactly the kind of player I'd like to see getting some international reps.
