I think the top LD are clearly Theodore, Chychrun, and Chabot. With Pietrangelo already having a spot, and Makar almost certainly on the team. That would leave 2 spots for guys like Hamilton, Ekblad, Pulock, Pelech, Nurse, Rielly, Doughty (if comes back healthy)

There will be 8 roster places for D. I'd have Makar, Pietrangelo, Ekblad, Doughty, Theodore, Hamilton as locks. The fight is for the two other spots.

The last two spots would have to go to LHS defencemen in that scenario, as Armstrong will select at least 3 LHS defenceman for this team. Theodore, and I'm penciling in Pelech and Chabot (as the 7th/8th defenceman) at this point. I'm also not convinced that Hamilton is a lock, but I could get behind his selection.

Doughty missing 2 months is certainly not ideal, but he's still someone I think Armstrong selects unless his return is delayed. There is not much time to make an assessment of his play once he returns, as it will be very close to when the roster is announced.

Fair bet. Hamilton I’m less certain is a lock, he’s be in the mix for the remaining three spots with Nurse, Pelech, Chychrun, Chabot. I think it’ll be Pelech plus two more of that group.

I don't even know if I would call Ekblad an absolute lock given our depth on RD. I think he makes the team, but Pietrangelo and Makar would be my only locks. LD is a whole different scenario, but Theodore, Chabot, and Chychrun are our top 3 options. Whether or not they are chosen based on playing style/partners/etc. who knows

Ekblad should play the left side, I know the management team doesn’t see it that way, but he has played that side before and is having the best start of any defenseman in the NHL

top 20 d points in nhl right now is only 4 canadians.

1 german. 1 swiss. 1 finn. 3 swedes. 9 americans. 1 russian
You picked your stats to make a point, my friend.

Lots of Canadians in the 20-30 range and the difference between 10-20 and 20-30 is one or two points. Plus, many of the Americans in the top 20 won't be on the U.S. Olympic team.

Marner shouldn’t be anywhere near this team

he’s proven time and time again he can’t be relied on when games matter

I watched Chabot against the Capitals, and as someone that has had him on the roster for a long time, I don’t think he’s playing well enough to be there.
I will watch more games though.

In his defense (pun), he's a +5 on an awful Ottawa team.

I know he hasn’t had the best start to the season statistically but every time I watch Vegas play Pietrangelo is the best player on the ice.

Incredible player.

There are 4-5 players here who are not playing Team Canada Olympic worthy hockey. Hopefully they find their games over the next few months leading into the holidays.

A little disappointed that I'm losing P.L. Dubois off of the WHC roster in the spring, but he's played in 2 WHCs already, performed well and is looking like he belongs on the A-Team, at least for now.

Chychrun has been terrible I can’t believe I’m saying this but I would rather have Reilly, even Byram rather than him

Hasn't been good and I considered Byram as well. I also considered including Drysdale and Power as well, just write off the '22 tournament and load up on guys who'll be on the '26 Team Canada Olympic gold medal favorites. (Provided the NHL wants another Olympics - you never know with those clowns running the show in NYC.)

You do have to put a little more thought into it than just evaluating how any particular player is playing over a 6-8 game stretch to start a season. He played his way into consideration last year, give him at least 25 games before writing him off.

Pretty much this. I do think Nurse will make the team though, he’s playing great hockey (as much as it pains me to say as an Oilers hater).

He’s been a horse this year just like he was last year, he’s a good hockey player and can play in all situations.

He can skate, move the puck, is physical and add good size to the roster which you still need some big physical guys out there especially on NA sized ice.

Looks good.

Who are the 4 to 5 you are worried about?
