What should the Leafs do

I'm not saying we pay the price, but man a Tanev is exactly what we need. I'm happy with the forwards, a minute eating, tough as nails, poised D man, we look formidable.
I think it's pretty much a guarantee that they will acquire a guy like that - just a matter of which one.

We need one guy and it's a long term partner for Rielly. Not necessarily a big name because they shouldn't take on a big contract, but a solid guy who can complement Rielly.

Oleksiak, TVR, Connor Murphy etc.

As in most years, I think we should stand pat. They will go as far as their mental resilience can take them and after seven years of rentals, the well is dry. Six great games is really nice, but six great games does not change seven years of history or the state of our prospect pool.

But of course the Leafs are going to Leaf, so if they're going to spend I hope they get a rental 3rd pairing D. If they're going to make a splash, get a goalie or a top4 D with term.

Hanifin or Weegar from Calgary... Alternatively, a massive D-first partner for Rielly such as Parayko or Oleksiak.

No trade should be made for an asset of that quality, however, unless the player is signed to term, or is willing to sign an extension as part of the trade.

Toronto has about 8 quality assets of value that are cost controlled. RFA's Robertson and Liljegren, and draft picks / ELCs Knies, Minten, Cowan, Grebenkin and Niemela. To round things out they have have their 1st round pick.

None of those assets should be moved under any circumstance, unless it's in a deal for a player that is not only a needle mover for the organization, whose age fits into the prime years of Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly, but is also locked up for term, or open to an extension with Toronto upon finalization of a trade. That narrows the market a lot but we're talking about a D-Man in the 26-31 years old range, or a forward in the 24-29 range. Obviously, there are outliers.

I voted to stay pat......hate giving up young prospects or picks for a older player who is injury prone and for whatever reason fans think the grass is greener on other teams players.

I like this kid from the habs Kovacevic tho ....26 yrs old....shoots right...6'4 ......Habs basically stole him off calgary.

Hate dealing witht the habs tho....... Weeks ago hab fans here were trashing talking on having close to the same pts the leafs had and they are rebuiding .......not they are tanking once again.
How many top picks do they have to get for the rebuilding to stop :DD

Brodie was a bum....trade him for a bag of pucks.......move him away from Rielly and he is playing great. How many years are we going to spend to find a partner for Rielly?

It's OK. The culture here is interesting:

If you can't win it all then a team should be making draft day a big moment. Fans of good teams go with this attitude right up to, and even past the deadline.

It's my opinion that there are at least 4 teams with better odds if I'm betting. Boston and Florida are better just in our own division. If we aren't winning at least 2 rounds why load up? The cupboard is bare.
When the playoffs start there are 15 teams with better odds. Curses are real for one. And for another could you imagine the pressure those guys would be under if they did make round 3 or dare I say the finals? The weight of the world would be on them!

That's what I've been saying for 3 years. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he's back next year no matter what happens this playoffs.
I also kept thinking this is the year, for the past few years at least, tried not to think it again this year, but I’m a sucker. But something about this team is different. Must be Reaves music 😬

I like Woll but it does seem like a lot of hope is being heaped on an unproven goalie with a history of injurys.
I agree, not an ideal situation. It's frustrating too cause the team is playing well in the middle of the hardest stretch of their schedule in spite of mediocre D and subpar goaltending. Just imagine if those areas were shored up...

Im not a big fan of Tanev....our luck we trade for him and he gets hurt or he isnt the player we thought he was from afar.

We have failed for so many years in trading at the deadline to get more grit...etc.

I like our team......the players we added like Domi and Bert just have to continue to produce and not be a liability

A second line center might be a big add tho.....I dont trust Domi as he is way too inconsistent....Its a shame but Taveres is better with lesser minutes.
