On the one hand, acquiring Tony for essentially nothing and getting his offensive skills at $2.5M is a no brainer. It's just good asset management.

On the other hand, it feels like we already have plenty of defense here without him, and one of Slavin/Burns/Pesce/Skjei/Orlov has to play on the bottom pair. If we get TDA in the mix, that bumps Chatfield to #7.

I see us getting Tony just to get his talent on the team, but even without the Erik Karlsson idea, it still feels like we have too many players.

I don't believe so. The required year is already full even with the date of Tony's trade Jul 8, 2022 not being counted. We're safe in the 365 days+ territory.

The optics may require though that any official paperwork on the trade is sketched up on today at earliest.

No but really, I've told this before, but the best brunch joke I ever heard was during my conscription, when they didn't bother to even try arranging us two separate meals for a Sunday rehealsal and instead told us already beforehand that after the night at the terrain we will be enjoying a brunch.

I think there’s an old law on the books saying professional sports teams can’t make trades in NC before noon on Sundays. Similar to the old alcohol law they phased out in 2017(?).
