Pay that man his bag of gold in 3 years.

Except given the past few years as history Tamps will screw him again as they don't believe in paying fair market value. I sincerely hope he does not get injured; I imagine all this "take one for the team" business is a one way street and he will be quickly forgotten when he needs them.

BTW this is not like $6mil in Canada. He doesn't pay state taxes for home games, but he must still pay taxes for road games in most states and federal tax as well.

Great deal for TB! Even with them all being RFA years I would guessed at a 3 year at around 5.75AAV.

Must give huge props here to Kucherov as well, for taking a hit to keep the team whole. :thumbu:

Feel bad? I dont feel bad for him at all. He's making over 4 mil playing hockey :shakehead

Say what you want about him making 4 mill. He is atleast 2 million underpaid. Beeing underpaid compared to other people with the same job you have is not a good feeling. Sure he has enough money to live a nice life but still, its a horrible deal for him. Im not saying i feel sorry for him and think he has it hard.

Oof, might be the best deal in the NHL right now from a value standpoint, especially when you factor in the player's ability when they signed the contract.

Kuchie needs a new agent, there's only so many years you can play professional hockey and he's going to be significantly underpaid for three of them.

Sure, but if he makes 6MM long term then he loses money in this scenario. My point is that by every measure, Kucherov is worth 6MM+ right now, even on a bridge deal. He's a proven commodity and is likely only going to get better. There is no way to justify paying him under 5MM and I really can't fathom why he did that.

They just signed Killorn for more money. It's not like they couldn't have prioritized the money for him. They just chose not to. Good on Stevie Y for getting him to sign, but I'm really struggling to understand why Kucherov decided to be so nice.

Oh I agree he's worth 6, but that 6 is going to be the bare minimum he can actually be offered by Tampa in 3 years. So he'll very likely be looking at an 8M+ pay day at that point.

Very weird that they got a 3rd year at this price. 2 years would've been a pretty normal bridge.

No way Tampa would have done 2 years considering who else they have up for contract that year. Plus the 1-year prior to UFA means that it's easier to get priced high enough a team might walk away in arbitration. So it does give slightly better leverage for the player.

Probably the biggest bridge contract ever, kudos to Stevie Y for getting 3 years but I have a feeling Kuch is going to make them pay large down the road.

Absurdly good deal for the Lightning. Kucherov must really want to stay in Tampa to accept a deal like this. Yzerman has had a great offseason.

Awesome deal! Who's left for next year, Palat only?

Tampa caved on this one, clear win for the player. But doesn't hurt the team too bad, just increases next contract.....that one will hurt.

hmmm?? What?? Not sure if I follow you on that one... can you please explain yourself?

Yzerman the magician, always ends up making things work. Tampa so lucky most gm's would have that team gutted by now

Did Yzerman actually fleece Kucherov or did Kucherov cede ground to go and win the big battle in 3 years?

Almost looks fair to both sides to me. TB wins short term, Kucherov aims to win long term.

Congrats Tampa Fans.

No one wants to play in Tampa though.

Somethings rotten in TB! They treat their players terribly! Stamkos is miserable and is going to bail! They'll have to trade Drouin! They all hate Cooper! Yzerman is an arrogant ***** who is driving away all of his players!

My hat's off to Yzerman. Kuch is probably going to make Stamkos money once that contract ends but by then we should hopefully be able to afford to give it to him. And much respect to Kuch for taking that deal - I've no doubt that someone would have offered him significantly more than that.

In the end Tampa didn't really have money available. Guess his choices were to sit and ask for a trade or just get playing. Can compete for a Cup with Tampa, see where the money is when his deal is up and potentially walk. Not the best situation, but he was backed into a corner.

Teams must be regretting not making Yzerman match a bigger offer sheet now.
