Gotta assume (or at least hope) the SOR connection played a part too. Those highlights seemed to show a lot of plays between the two of them.

we love our overage prospects

Yeah, and that's going back a decade and a half now. But I think it's probably the only way a good team is gonna find good young players these days. By identifying under-valued talent in other organizations. Can burn us, and has, but also gets us Hagel, Gourde (the initial trade), and Cernak.

If we gave up a 3rd, JBB definitely feels like this guy will be an NHLer somewhere down the line.

Anybody got a quick scouting report?

He’s a very talented two-way winger. Decent speed, good stick handling and a very good scoring instinct. Him and O’Reilly were glued to the hip since the trade, and were not only dominant at 5v5 but combined were one of the best penalty killing units in the CHL. He checks a lot of boxes, very complete prospect.

It should be noted that he was a 20 year old playing in a league that has gotten much younger due to the NCAA rules. But he passes the eye test in a lot of ways. Will be interesting to see what he does in college next year.

At work. Not nearly enough time to research this. Is he still going to college or are we signing him?
he is most assuredly going to college for at least a year. a smart choice, as has been stated the OHL has been slightly diluted and nobody is sure how good it still is since the NCAA diaspora.

How's his skating?

He's got familiarity with SOR and that will be a positive going forward. Also should be some opportunity for him going forward since we trade all our prospects over the years. See how he does in college.

Chances he's a guy who can improve his skating in our system?

Just to clarify, I don’t think skating will be an issue at the next level. He’s pretty quick, I undersold it. I just don’t think it’s the main strength of his game.

Yeah, I'm just thinking, we've seen several guys who were pretty quick but not the best technical skaters make huge jumps under Underhill. Drouin, of course Point, and even Cirelli to a lesser degree. Seems like we find "great" skaters by tweaking some things at times. (Then there are cases like the Foote brothers...) Basically I'm just wondering out loud if there's a higher ceiling for a guy like this.

It also feels like doubling down on SOR as a big part of the next gen.

Definitely a possibility. I would say his stride is pretty effortless and smooth, especially for his size. I could see him adding some more power as he fills out his frame.

It’s funny because him and SOR are the OHL equivalent of Hagel and Cirelli, at least on the penalty kill. He doesn’t have the tenacity that Hagel has, but it would be pretty fun if those were our two PK units at some point.

I should hope so. Its a big leap of faith, for sure, but he's checked so many boxes

200 ft player
Faceoff proficiency - Hopefully it still holds against next level talent
Boardwork
Creeps into open spaces and anticipates offensively and defensively (plus PK)
Cost Certainty - at ELC and 1st RFA
Comparibles - Cirelli and ROR

Add in Pridham and you could really have 2/3's of an offensive-producing 3rd line (just missing the left side role). Then the 4th line can go back to being the shutdown/crash-n'-bash

I like that they're looking for some players with chemistry like that. One thing I loved about our core that won it all twice was they went through a long playoff run or two in Norfolk and Syracuse. Dominated there and then dominated when they came to Tampa. Would love to see something like that again.

They're on a decent path considering the trades we have made over the years. I know people like to talk about the management and coaching of this team but they've been one of the best in the league and consistently for a long time. Excuse some fans that just have faith in this leadership group in being able to put winners together.
