I do think we all need to realize how tough this schedule is to open the season. 7/10 teams made the playoffs, 8/10 should have (tampa) and Dallas was the 1 seed the year before last, only to follow up that season with the worst goalie tandem in the league (yes it was worse than ours).

We're sitting at 3-3-1 against that schedule.

Last night sucked but the worlds not falling. People that are supposed to score need to start scoring though

Perhaps this thread isn’t the right place to piss and moan about the team since in this context it really is just 1 game against the best team in the league.

Record against teams currently in playoff position: 0-2-1.

Small sample size to be sure, but the Lightning are the 1st really good team they’ve even played so far. Columbus maybe, but they are only 5-3. Stars are 5-4.

If they want to make the playoffs and stop playing in front of 8,000 people and being goddamn laughing stock they need to beat a few actually good hockey teams.

Although I agree that was a poor coaching decision, Noah Hanifin *has* to sell out to stop that. The side skate "ole" doesn't cut it in that situation. Honestly, all he had to do was go down to one knee and he stops that easily.

I have to admit, his effort is balls and his apparent entitled attitude is wearing thin on me.

This complaint seems to be just picking something to fit the narrative. He didn't do more to stop an EN goal from a guy with an open shot? Really? If you want to say Hanifin isn't playing well or is inconsistent or you think he should be moved for a top forward, that is a perfectly fine position to take, but this is just looking for something.

I hate to say I told you so, but we should have traded him this summer. He's just not a good defender, and he's not good enough offensively to make up for his D. He's a No. 5 d-man and we could have traded him like a No. 2

 I highly doubt that. In the end you may be right, but I, for one am not willing to declare what a defenseman is or is not at 20 years old.

The schedule certainly hasn't done us any favors to start the season. We've yet to play a game against a team we're fighting for a playoff spot (nobody say Columbus, they're better than us). We've yet to play against teams that we *should* beat, such as Florida, Detroit, Arizona, etc. With only 7 games played, it's easy to look at one or two and lose the context of an 82 game season.

Is 3-3-1 ideal? No, but it's certainly not a death sentence, given the circumstances.

The problem with this team is pretty evident right now and pretty much one of the main 2 issues for the past 3 years. Nobody but Skinner can score.

Lindholm is the guy I feel for. He does EVERYTHING right. Except finish. And he’s set up a ton of grade A chances that someone Lindholms. He usually looks like dogshit as well as produces nothing in October but this year he just can’t catch a break (save for his one goal that Staal handed to him on a silver platter).

Why are people so fixated on the sub-10,000 attendance?

Giving away thousands of free and heavily discounted tickets doesn't make the team suddenly in better shape or less likely to move. The 8,000 you see are the only 8,000 loyal, paying fans (or suckers - me included) that have existed for the past decade. Nothing has changed or gotten worse.

IDK why Lindholm hasn't been traded- he is just incapable of finishing. Rask has shown flashes of brilliance but what we need is consistancy. Hanafin vastly overrated. Could the 3 of them plus a 1st rounder get Duchene or comprable? Bring up Gauthier, Zykov, ect?

Did you just suggest trading Rask + Lindholm + Hanifin + 1st for Duchene? :loony: Please stay away from the main board (and sharp objects).

It's tough to watch. He's one of the only guys that actually plays the Peters system "correctly" in the offensive zone. Instead of just cycle cycle cycle (a la every shift of J Staal), he wins board battles and tries to move to the middle of the ice. He just needs to spend every practice on one timers. It's always been one of his biggest weaknesses.

I don't know what the answer is. We're pretty dominant in the DZ and NZ, beautiful zone exits and we generally do a decent job with zone entry, but then it just dies. We have skilled players that don't make skilled plays. Yes, it's early. Yes, the schedule has been brutal. Yes, we played the best team in the league pretty well. Great, we need Ws. It was refreshing to hear Williams after that road trip, hopefully no one else is making excuses for themselves like we are.

I had really hoped to see some improvement from Hanifin in regards to decision-making but it just isn't there. At this point I think it is difficult to call his lapses - which have directly led to multiple goals this year - Rookie/Sophomore/X Age jitters. He doesn't have what it takes between the ears to play a strong defensive zone game.

However, he is much more palatable for me if he can actually use his offensive skill set to generate scoring chances. IMO he has been developing well in that regard. Which is encouraging because he can always be placed into a heavily sheltered offensive role.

On the other end, Haydn Fleury looks like a baby Pesce/Slavin. All of last year we defended Fleury saying that he never had to be more than a top-end #5/6 because of the current D corps. I think it's also OK to think that could apply to Hanifin instead, in the case that Fleury continues to excel.

If you move Hanifin, the back end is going to be stagnant. There was a 4-4 sequence where Pesce had the puck, and was trying to do something for like 15 seconds, and he couldn't get away from a forward for even an inch of space, and eventually, Palat I think, just took the puck from him. That's the shortcoming of our non-faulk/hanifin dmen.

Noah will get 30-40 points this year. Pesce/Fleury/TVR will probably get about 30-40 combined.

Maybe that is excessive for Duchene. How about that package for Tavares then?
