Intentional or not that happens all the time. Would be ridiculous if he got anything. Though it is pretty ridiculous how upset everyone gets when Marchand does it.

I think it can be called either way based on the description of the rule. But when one party is stationary it is fat less likely they are going to call slew foot than if 2 players are going full speed towards the boards I suppose. But he did use his foot to take the "feet" out from under the opponent.

This is a key part, not necessarily of the "slew foot or trip" call, but whether or not it deserves supplementary discipline. If you look at the ones that re suspendable (like the one Marchand did in Shanny's video), you'll see that taking a guy's feet out when he has a full head of steam is seen as more dangerous than doing it when both are stationary.

You can call it right or wrong, but that does seem to be a pretty consistent differentiation.

Again, watch Shanny's video, and watch what Marchand does to Kunitz (I think it's him). It doesn't look anything like this case and is seen as a much more dangerous play.

Should be a penalty, but on the exact same sequence you see Marchand intentionally fall on Bailey's back after he shoots and stand over him while he tries to get up. It shoes exactly why people don't give a **** when people make cheap plays vs. Marchand because he's a piece of crap.

Has the NHL said he's going to have a hearing? I'm fine if he gets nothing due to no history, but if he doesn't even get a hearing, I call shenanigans. You can't get any more obvious than doing it to a guy that just served 2 games for this.

1. That's not a slewfoot. That is a textbook tripping minor and nothing more. Had Tavares caught both legs or at least pushed/pulled Marchand's upper body backwards that would fit the rule for slewfooting but neither happened and the result was leg on leg (1 for each player) made contact.

2. The reason Marchand was suspended for his was because he chose to slewfoot somebody as they were going into the boards. (Shades of Foster/Mitchell without the speed) That is a potentially very dangerous play and the reason why Marchand sat.

If you switch both players, Marchand gets suspended. Hypocrisy at its best.

If you watch the video Shanahan called a play exactly like what Tavares did a slewfoot or trip, it should have been a penalty.

You mean when I said you could call it a slew foot or a trip and that it was a 2 minute penalty, I was right? Cool.

Now, you never answered my question about either the embellishing or double knee drop after.

Penalties or not?

Has he answered you yet? ;)

If a player gets slewfooted in the forest, and that person is Brad Marchand, does anybody care?

Are there any bigger homer announcers than the Bruins? You just know what he was going to say at the end of the clip.

"and if he makes a hit similar to this"

I'm guessing what was about to follow is "Marchand gets a penalty/suspension."

he made no effort to push Marchand's upper body back against his leg, that's tripping, not slew footing.

Actually your post is hypocritical. If Marchand is in fact a clean player with no past history of any wrong doing then this would be a 2 minute tripping penalty if he did the tripping. The fact that your saying "well if it was the other way around" your basically saying "he's a cheap shot artist who gets the short end of the stick".

I also have no hate for Marchand and like the Bruins as a team so I have no dog in this fight even though I'm a Islander fan. JT deserved 2 minutes for tripping and I will NOT deny that.

Hypothetical that can't be proven either way, but

1) If you watch Shanny's video he says a play that is almost exactly like the Tavares won doesn't require suspension

2) Marchand has been suspended for slew footing before, so yes as a repeat offender he is more likely to be suspended for another offense than someone doing it the first time. And in all honesty, can you have any problem with that? Do you think a drunk driver caught the 5th time deserves the same sentencing as someone caught once?
